Chapter 13 - Venai

A few days passed and a few more people bought the silent reaper killer. Those who took it became weak at first then had a surge of energy. After others saw the results, they rushed to buy it as well.

Yamiko came back this morning. She had been gone to talk to a friend of my grandfathers who lives in the Capital city of the Snowfield plains county. Since Fabro did not have a smith licence, he needed the old man to take credit for the town heater.

She came back with a man looking to be in his 30s. He had a proud look on his face as if he was above everyone, Fabro felt instant dislike for the guy. He did not even bother asking for his name.

You must be grandmaster Haste grandson, the man said looking at Fabro like he was beneath him. Sure, I'm assuming you here on behalf of the old man. That would be grandmaster Tongs to you.

He just gave him a side glance and continued walking. The man followed behind scowling at the disregard he was being shown. They went inside the spacial dimension and he showed him the heater.

The man walked around as if inspecting it. What are you doing? He asked. Checking to see if it worth my masters name. Did he ask you to do that? No but I wouldn't want people thinking my master created a worthless piece of garbage.

Fabro scowled, he was really trying his best not to punch this asshole in the face. I can give you my word it is not a worthless piece of garbage. You words means nothing to me. Fabro was so mad he just laughed a little.

What so funny? Nothing, you can continue with your inspection. The man clicked his tongue. To think there would come a day when the greatness of the Lord of vanity would be question by a talentless fool, quite funny, he thought to himself. He was so mad he didn't even realise he acknowledged the moniker of Lord of Vanity.

He let the man do his inspection but he was seething inside. The guy went inside the heater and came back with a pale face. Are... Are you the one who drew the formation sequence inside?

Who else do you think did it? I'm sorry for doubting your skills, they are passable. I guess we are done here then? I suppose, we should discuss the price for these things now no?

I'm afraid not, our business with you is concluded. You can go back and tell grandmaster Tong we won't be doing business together. Fabro watched as the mans face paled.

-----------------------------------------------------------

His name was Venai, 50 years old at early master stage, he could be considered avarage at best if you factor in the the entire empire in terms of talent. His skill though lay In rune inscriptions. He was what is called an enchanter.

Smith craft weapons and enchanters inscribe runes on them. Some very talented people are both Smiths and enchanters. He was not one of those people but his master Tong is.

He was taken as an apprentice by Tong when he was merely ten years old. The joy he felt when he saw the proud look on his parents. By the time he turned 20 he looked down in all his peers he grew up with, afterall he was an awakened and enchanter and they still live in a tiny town on the county.

He had moved to the capital city of the county with his master. He did well for himself, his talent although not extraordinary was quite good, even among his masters disciples he was ranked around the middle.

About a week ago a young looking pretty woman had arrived at the smithy asking for their master. She was delivering a letter and afterwards he had to go back with her to represent his master for a business deal.

He felt proud, that meant his master trust him. He learnt the person he was making a deal with was the grandson of his masters old friend, so he was going to deal with a snotty brat, he suddenly felt like the task was beneath him especially when he heard the guy was 20 and living in some small town at the edge of the province.

When he arrived, the guy looked really young, and there was nothing impressive about him, he did not understand why his master would want to do business with the kid, he could make anything this boy can,not to mention his master.

His impression of him worsened when he addressed his master as the old man, who does this brat think he is. He was led towards a spacial dimension, it was impressive, it must've been built by his grandfather.

The heater he was supposed to look at looked impressive from the outside. He did not understand the need for such a thing but he did not question his master. This thing is unlikely to be of much use to awakened.

Could it be he built it for lowly mortals? Why would anybody waste their time like that. He went inside to inspect the formation, he didn't even think it would be a sequence after all drawing sequences was hard, even he could barely draw the simplest of elemental sequences and it takes a lot from him.

What he found there really changed his view on the world, it was an extremely complicated sequence, one of the earth grade no less. There's no way he's the one who drew this, impossible, he thought.

He didn't want to believe it but it was before his very eyes. He could barely understand how the sequence works, he didn't recognise some of the runes there, he could realise the flame runes as they were simple.

He could see the source point but can barely understand what happening there. He could realise the mana gathering formation or what is supposed to be it, but why would anybody draw a mana gathering formation on a source point.

He could not even tell the formation below it, with so many runes and formations overlapping, it was hard to tell which formation was which. He could feel another formation withing a tube Inside, he could sense the hot wind within and what seemed to be spinning blades that push the wind out.

The heater was on yet no heat reached where he stood, it was simply warm. He realised the runes used there, he could see the water runes, no they were very similar but that not water runes.

He could see the barrier runes though, Infact they were the simplest barrier runes, finally something his level. There other runes he cannot realise, they feel like water but more intangible almost like pure elemental essence...there's no way he used pure elemental essence Instead of the element itself.

I didn't even know runes for elemental essence existed, who is this guy? Venai was now terrified, he had just insulted such a person, his master will kill him for this. He got out of the heater.

He had to keep his cool, can't let then see me sweating he thought. He tried to play it cool but then the guy just said he won't be doing business with them anymore. How did it come to this? He wondered forgetting the Insults he delivered.

He tried to beg but he was simply given a crystal and was told to touch it for a while. He did but then felt his memories of the place and these people slipping, by the time he came to be he was out of town.

He could remember everything he talked about with them concerning the heater but could not remember their faces, height or voice or even where he talked to them, if was really strange but he had to report his failure to his master.
