Chapter 24 - CHAPTER 24: What News?

Catherine's POV

I looked up at him, forcing a small smile. "Never mind," I said.

"You said never mind?" he repeated, his voice firmer, his expression unreadable. His eyes showed a hint of concern.

I swallowed hard, trying to snap myself out of it. If the phone hadn't vibrated when it did, I didn't even want to imagine what might have happened.

I picked up my purse, turned around, and walked toward the door without saying another word to him.

"At least, if you won't tell me what's bothering you, I deserve to take you home," he said from behind.

I heard his footsteps coming closer, but something deep inside told me to keep walking. I didn't want whatever had just happened to happen again.

I continued in my tracks, shutting the door behind.

Once I was outside the private lounge, I hurried through the lobby, past the open bar, and out into the compound.

I could hear footsteps behind me. I already knew it was him.

"Can you just wait?" he called, and I stopped walking.
