Chapter 15 – The Attack and the Promise
Adrian:
— You know, Cordelia… when I found the messages in the diary, I honestly didn't think I'd make it this far. I'm getting closer and closer, and it still feels hard to believe I actually got here.
That's why I need to thank you. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have made it. So… thank you for everything so far — he says, smiling at her.
Cordelia:
— You're welcome, Adrian. And even though you're an idiot, it's good to have you around — she says, smiling too.
— Look, we've arrived — she adds, pointing ahead. — This is where we got separated. Now you lead the way.
Adrian:
— Got it. Just follow me. See that house up ahead? That's where I found the letter… and the power stone.
Cordelia:
— Then let's go deeper now, see if we find anything useful. Let's move.
Adrian:
— Hey, Cordelia, I've been wondering… Why are they called "power stones"? Why not "divine crystals" or something like that?
Cordelia:
— Do you remember how I told you they're formed?
Adrian:
— Yeah. You said they're made from the energy that leaks out of broken divine domains, right?
Cordelia:
— That's right. Seems like you actually paid attention.
In fact, there's more than just this broken divine domain. There are many. No one really knows how many.
And each one discovered so far has a different type of energy.
For example: the divine domain of death creates power stones filled with death energy.
So, to avoid naming them differently every time, they just call them "power stones," since no matter if it's sacred power, death power… it's still power.
Adrian:
— Ah… I get it now.
Cordelia:
— And it looks like our conversation ends here — she says, looking at twenty monstrous soldiers ahead.
Adrian:
— You ready?
Cordelia:
— Yes. Let's go! Divine possession! — she yells as she transforms.
— Holy kick! — She jumps into the air, charging energy into her foot. — Die, monsters!
BOOM!
A shockwave explodes, knocking Adrian backward.
Adrian:
— Cordelia! You forgot about me! — he shouts, getting up and charging at the monsters with his sword.
After the attacks, only a few monsters are left.
Cordelia releases her divine possession.
Cordelia:
— Whew… looks like those were the last ones.
Adrian:
— Then let's keep going...
Before he finishes, a monster rises from the sand and attacks.
Adrian:
— Watch out! — he yells, lunging at the monster with his sword.
The monster strikes back and lands a deep cut on Adrian's arm.
Cordelia ducks and hits the monster's wrist with divine energy, destroying it completely.
Cordelia (yelling):
— Why did you do that, you idiot?!
Adrian (smiling):
— I told you, didn't I? I promised I'd help you find your parents...
Cordelia (thinking, surprised):
— That idiot was actually serious when he said that...
Cordelia (whispering):
— Thank you...
Adrian:
— You're welcome — he says, still smiling.
