Chapter 16 – The General
Cordelia:
— Here, take this potion. It should heal your wounds.
Adrian:
— Thanks, Cordelia.
Can you still go on, or would you rather try again tomorrow?
Cordelia:
— I can keep going. We can't delay a whole day over this "little thing" — she says, getting up.
Cordelia:
— Alright... but if you feel anything, let me know and we'll head back.
Adrian:
— Got it. Let's move on — he says as they enter the building where the monster soldiers had come from.
— Hey, Cordelia... what do you think this place was? — he asks, looking around.
Cordelia:
— I don't know... but judging by what's left, it looks like a training field.
I think it was where soldiers from the kingdoms trained in the past — she answers, also observing the surroundings.
— Why do you ask? — she adds, confused.
Adrian:
— I was just thinking... If those soldiers were gathered like in that other place...
BOOM!
Adrian ducks and shouts:
— LOOK OUT! — as he jumps to the side, grabbing Cordelia.
A massive sword crashes into the ground, creating a huge hole where they were standing just seconds earlier.
Cordelia:
— What was that?!
Adrian:
— The thing I was just thinking about… just happened.
They look up. A giant, three-meter-tall monster appears, wearing heavy armor and wielding a colossal sword.
Adrian:
— I think we just found their boss...
Cordelia:
— Looks like we're going to have to fight. Divine Possession! — she yells, activating her transformation.
She jumps and strikes with a kick filled with sacred energy, but the monster blocks it with his sword and punches her hard, sending her flying.
Adrian:
— CORDELIA!! — he screams, seeing her thrown. He rushes to help, but Cordelia shouts:
Cordelia:
— STAY BACK!
He's at the supernatural level! He's not like the soldiers before!
Even injured, she charges again.
— Take this, you damn beast! Sacred Lamb Punch!
The blow creates an explosion around the enemy, but he uses the smoke to counterattack with his sword.
Cordelia:
— I won't be able to dodge in time... — she thinks, seeing the blade coming for her neck.
Adrian:
— LIKE I'D LET THAT HAPPEN!! — he yells, stabbing his sword into the monster's eye and deflecting the fatal blow.
Adrian:
— Are you okay?! — he asks, worried.
Cordelia:
— I'm fine, thanks to you. He didn't hit anything vital, but...
My divine energy is nearly gone.
If we keep dragging this fight, we're going to die.
Adrian:
— Is there anything I can do to help?
Cordelia:
— There is. But it could kill you.
She looks at him, serious.
Adrian:
— Let's do it.
Cordelia:
— Here's the plan: I'm going to inject half of my remaining energy into you.
While I hold him off, you use it to finish him. Ready?
— We don't have much time...
Here we go! — she says, transferring the energy into Adrian's body.
Adrian:
— AAHHRRGH!! — he screams in pain from the energy surge.
Cordelia:
— Adrian, now it's all on you!
— Hey, ugly monster... take this!
Chains of Light from the Divine Lamb! — she says, binding the monster.
— Now we just need the final blow. Hurry up, Adrian!
Adrian struggles to stand:
— Get up... get up...
How could I stop here? I've come so far...
I won't die here to this piece of crap!!
He rises with power, eyes burning.
Adrian:
— DIE!!! DIVINE PUNCH!
BOOOOM!!!
A devastating explosion wipes out the monster and everything around it.
Adrian:
— I... did it... — he says, before passing out.
Cordelia:
— ADRIAN!! — she cries, running to him.
She checks his condition and smiles in relief.
Cordelia:
— He's still breathing...
Good night — and thanks for your hard work — she says, smiling softly.
