Felix stood up from where he was and held her, supporting her to her feet.
"That was too intense, aunt. It was just a mistake." Felix said to Gloria as he felt annoyed by the way she treated Fiona.
"If she wants to get paid, you better warn her to stop being a clumsy idiot!" Gloria yelled at him.
"My chest," Fiona muttered as she felt pain in her chest. It felt like the pain of when Kael neglected her. She hadn't felt it in a long while. It was as if Gloria's harshness had upset the pain. She clutched her chest and tried to stand on both feet.
"You can't keep being intimate with her like that." Gloria scoffed as she ate her food. "You already have a woman in your life." She added.
Felix didn't respond to her. Instead he supported Fiona to the kitchen and handed her a glass of water. Lara watched them from a corner.
"My chest still hurts." Fionaa breathed in a laboured manner.
"Just drink some water." Felix urged her and she gulped more water from the glass. "Stop working for now, get some rest." He turned to Lara and told her to show Fiona to her room, where she can rest.
Lara supported her with one hand and led her to a room upstairs by the corner. It was almost empty except for a bed that was bare without any sheets. Fiona collapsed on the bed, still holding her chest tightly.
"Just get some sleep, you'll definitely feel better." Lara comforted her and dropped the small bag that Fiona had carried along with her when she came.
Lara left the room, and it felt like her heart was knotting against itself. She breathed loudly and struggled to shut her eyes to sleep. But sleep continued to elude her. Instead, she was having flashes of when Kael rejected her.
Kael hadn't recited the official rejection, but his actions already created a hole in her heart. Somehow, it felt like the feeling in her chest was an attraction. It was as if it was attracting her to someone in pain, making it feel like she was feeling the inner pain of her mate.
"This can't be." She said to herself, trying to assure herself that the bond between her and Kael was broken. But one thing bothered her, why would Kael be in pain.
After a while, the pain subsided, allowing her to close her eyes and sleep.
She woke the next morning to someone knocking on her door. She stretched her arms and yawned loudly. Fiona looked towards the open window, it was still a bit dark, showing that it was the early hours of the morning.
She hoped inwardly that it wasn't Gloria who was knocking on the door. She slipped into her worn slippers and walked sluggishly to the door.
"Thank goodness." She said to herself as she saw that it was Lara who was at the door.
"You have to get used to waking by this time." Lara said to her. Lara was already dressed in her working clothes. "Madam wants you to clean up the rooms." Lara informed her before leaving.
Fiona sat on the bed, wiping her face with her hands as she tried to clear the dizziness. Lara hadn't mentioned the specific room that she was meant to clean and she hoped that she wouldn't have to clean all the rooms.
After pouring water over her face, she slipped into a faded dress that she found in the wardrobe. It was a bit oversized, but it was going to serve the purpose of her using it in carrying out the chores.
Her features had declined over the years, since she went to prison. Her bright appearance had turned to a dull one. Her birthday was by the corner and she sighed to herself, knowing that it wouldn't be like other years that Kael would play a happy birthday song on his piano for her.
She stepped out of the room and headed to where Lara was. She had to confirm how many rooms that she was going to clean.
On her way, she bumped into the alpha, Alpha Hugh.
"Good Morning sir," She greeted while bowing her head slightly.
He muttered a low hum as a response to her greeting. "I heard you have a criminal record. I don't want to hear of you committing crimes here. Understood?"
"Yes sir." Fiona responded while still bowing her head respectfully.
He continued past her, giving her time to digest his words. She couldn't believe that so many people knew about her incident and she hoped it wouldn't become a stigma among many people.
"You're cleaning the three rooms at the left wing." Lara informed her. She also told her that the ill Luna would be discharged from the hospital and would be brought to the house to be placed on bed rest.
Fiona listened to Lara and headed in the direction that Lara explained to her. The first room was big and also almost empty. She saw a picture in a corner of Alpha Hugh with a woman by his side. The woman was beautiful and she suspected that it was the sick Luna.
She dusted the frame and hung it in place. The walls were covered with cobwebs, and she tried her best to take them off the wall. After doing that, she felt extremely exhausted and stopped for a rest.
After she resumed working, she was almost done and ended everything by dressing the bed. The room was now in a better state than before. She wondered what the state of the Luna was. If she would be able to see the room and appreciate her for the hard work that she did.
Seeing that everything was in place, she headed to the next room. Everything in this particular room looked like it was already in place. It seemed like someone was already occupying it, but she wondered who. It had the resemblance to a room occupied by a young woman. There were beautiful lace dresses in the corner and the sweet rose perfume filled the atmosphere.
The dresses screamed luxury and all of them seemed like they were her size. There was something about all the dresses, each of them came with a tiny piece of cloth.
She picked up the piece of cloth and looked at the one that was placed on the mannequin in the corner.
It covered the eyes of the mannequin and was tied at the back. Fiona instantly understood that the room should belong to a blind young woman. There were a lot of sash, each of them having a colour that matched with the dresses in the closet.
Fiona looked at herself in the mirror as she held it. She wore the sash over her eyes and tied it behind her until she saw nothing.
She sat on the bed, with her eyes covered by the fabric. The room felt good and she just enjoyed the moment she had in the room.
Suddenly, she heard the sound of glass shattering and shifted the cloth from her eyes to meet a woman staring at her with a shocked look.
