Dave handed the fish he had caught over to the villa's kitchen to be prepared. The four of them had reserved a private room and were waiting inside. Fortunately, with the little girl around, she kept chatting away with Bert, which helped ease the tension between the three adults and prevented things from becoming too awkward.
It was the first time in their lives that Dave and Bert sat together at the same dinner table. Both of them felt somewhat uncomfortable, but they endured it. They weren't sure why they managed to get through it, maybe because they both cared about their fathers deeply and didn't want them to witness the rift between them, which could lead to a conflict.
