"Laurent!"
Dave couldn't hold back anymore. As soon as Laurent finished speaking, he shouted through gritted teeth,
"Do I even matter to you anymore, Laurent? Is your job—your career—the only thing you care about now?"
Laurent hadn't explicitly said she wanted to go, but the fact that she had brought it up to discuss with him meant she did. If she didn't want to go, she would have rejected Matthew outright when he first mentioned it. There would have been no need to come to Dave to talk it through.
Dave was furious—boiling with anger, heartache, and bitter disappointment.

And now she drops this on him—a potential relocation to another city for an entire year.
A whole year. Not a month, not two.
