Chapter 12 - CHAPTER 3 (Part 3)

(Pov - Daniel.)

After accepting the mission, the three of us left the guild.

Alright, according to the information we gathered, it's unknown why people are disappearing, though the main suspicion is that it's some rank A or higher monster.

And the person who requested adventurers for this mission is anonymous. That's pretty strange and only increases my suspicions about this mission. I'll be very careful with my movements.

"Where's the cave?"

"It's next to Iris Village."

Iris Village… Sounds like a woman's name.

I pull out my phone and open the map app.

"Iris Village? Kind of an ugly name."

Iris. Viris. Virus… Sounds weird.

"Wow…"

Alex looks at my phone with curiosity. Oh, my phone stands out too much.

"What's that?"

"It's a phone; I'll explain what it does later."

I don't have time to explain; it'll take too long, and we can't waste time.

I search the map and find it… Wow, wow. It's really far. It'll take hours to travel on foot, or maybe we can go by horse or something like that. Does this world have public transportation?

"It's a bit far."

Wait… That's right, I can fly.

I remember how fast I was when I flew. I'm incredibly quick in the air. It'll be faster if I fly.

Plus, I can also be strong with a spell; I can carry them on my back and in my arms without any issue.

I think I'll get there in a couple of minutes if I fly.

"But if I fly, we'll get there quickly. Yes, it's decided; we'll fly."

Alex gets super excited hearing what I said and starts shaking me. Wow, wow, wow. Her excitement is contagious. It's cute, but I'm getting dizzy.

"Flying?!"

"Are you sure?" Sara said, worried about my suggestion.

I guess she's never flown before. I hope she's not afraid of heights.

"Of course, no problem. Muslar asio!"

Perfect, I feel strong.

"Are you ready?"

"Absolutely!"

"Y-yeah… I guess," Sara said, not at all confident in her words.

Don't worry, Sara, nothing will happen to you.

"Wow, wow… Alright… Back or arms?"

"The back!" Alex said immediately.

"Ugh, I guess I get the arms."

"With your permission."

I lift Sara in my arms, and she blushes. That blush on her face is cute, but I hope she's not misinterpreting my actions.

"Alex, hop on my back."

"Right away!"

Alex jumps and climbs onto my back.

"This is kind of embarrassing," Sara said, blushing.

It really is… Just a little… But it's necessary.

"I-I feel the same," I said nervously.

Carrying one girl in my arms and another on my back is really awkward, though it's not the first time I've carried a girl. Sonia used to jump on my back to surprise me, and I'd also carry her in my arms to make her feel like the princess she was to me… Arghhh! Why did she cheat on me…?! Ugh… No, Daniel, don't think about her. Forget the past… Forget the past.

"Wow, wow… Ugh… Wow, wow… Alright, according to the map, we'll reach the village if I fly straight. You need to hold on tight if you don't want to fall. Are you ready?"

"I'm ready!"

"J-just don't go too fast."

All the adventurers are looking at us strangely. Yes, yes, I know, it looks like we're playing, but they'll be shocked soon.

They're about to see an adventurer fly… Though I still don't know if that's extremely rare or if there are adventurers who've learned to fly.

"Arches Nexus!"

I take off flying from the village. Awesome, this speed makes me feel like I'm driving a sports car! It feels like riding a motorcycle, and I say that from experience since I tried being a pizza delivery guy but quit when they tried to take advantage of me again… What lousy luck.

Leaving the past aside, this feels incredible!

I feel like a superhero!

I'm so excited, but I think only Alex and I share the same excitement. I wish I could say the same about Sara, but…

"Ahhhhh!" Sara screamed, terrified, digging her nails into my arm and chest.

I-it hurts a lot, but I won't complain; I don't want to make Sara feel bad. It's understandable that she's so scared since this isn't something that happens every day.

"Amazing!" Alex shouted, thrilled.

Yes, Alex, I share your excitement. This feels awesome… Flying is incredible! Thank you, God, for giving me such a useful and amazing spell! It'll save me so much time when I travel!

"Next stop, Iris Village," I said, smiling.

I just hope everything goes well.

And while Daniel headed to his destination, in King Freis's castle, the king was busy humbling himself.

The king kneels before a woman sitting on his throne. The woman is quite tall, with long white hair and large breasts that stand out in the tight dress she wears, a dress as red as blood itself.

She's a very beautiful woman, but everyone who knows her doesn't dare look at her lustfully, out of sheer fear.

They're in a library, and she's writing in a small notebook while the king sweats profusely, terrified and nervous about being so close to her.

His heart is racing so fast it wouldn't be surprising if he had a heart attack, but the woman doesn't care at all about what's happening to him; she just keeps writing.

"Well? Did he accept?" said the woman, whose voice alone sends chills and deep terror through the king.

"I-I'm sorry, the adventurer capable of using all types of magic rejected my offer. And as you ordered, I didn't insist or bother him. I ordered the guild master to ensure no one bothers him and to let Daniel do whatever he wants."

"That was obvious; someone like him doesn't want to spend all his time protecting someone. He wants excitement, and I'll give it to him. Fufu. That boy is quite interesting."

"S-she laughed?" the king thought, unable to believe what he heard.

The woman stands and extends a pair of pink wings from her back.

"I think it's time to meet him," she said, smiling.

"Miss Rose, are you going alone?"

"Yes. I don't want him to think I'm trying to attack him. I don't want to make an enemy of someone as special as this Daniel."

"I want to go!" a girl shouted.

A girl bursts through the door with a lot of energy and runs toward them, very excited.

A girl who doesn't inspire fear—quite the opposite; she looks very feminine, pure, and innocent, unlike Rose, whose mere presence instills fear.

"I'll go with you, sister!"

The girl is almost identical to Rose, except she's smaller and flat-chested, and she doesn't have wings. They can also be distinguished because she wears a pink dress and a red flower as a headband.

"Eavesdropping again? You're hopeless… Fine, you'll come with me, but I don't want you bothering him. I still don't know how to handle him."

"Thanks!"

"Let's go; the sooner I meet him, the better."

"Okay, sister!"

The two are about to leave, but Rose stops before exiting.

"And, Freis…"

"Yes?" said Freis, who hasn't moved from his spot, still kneeling.

Rose turns to look at Freis.

"Execute the two remaining chicken men; we don't need them anymore."

"Of course!"

And yes, it was all a test orchestrated by Rose, though Daniel was certain it was just a simple test.

The sisters left the place, and Rose looked at the notes in her notebook.

"Daniel, a human with all types of magic, including demonic, angelic, and fairy magic… A human with all types of magic… 'When the demons appear, three legendary adventurers will emerge, one on each continent'… Is one of the prophecies really coming true?" Rose thought seriously, continuing to write notes in her notebook.

(Pov - Daniel.)

Iris Village. Wow, wow. What a beautiful place.

I land in a small village, and everyone looks at us with fear… Well, anyone would be scared seeing a guy arrive in a village by flying.

Hmm… They're scared, but they don't run or anything like that. The same thing happened with the Black Demon; people stayed in the village and ignored it. Do demons kill those who try to escape first? That would explain why people don't try to run.

Well, it's not worth thinking about.

"That was terrifying," Sara said.

I set Sara down, and she's trembling. Was it really that scary for her?

Well, it was her first time flying; I don't blame her for being afraid.

In fact, it's common sense to be scared; Alex is the exception.

"That was fun! On the way back, I call dibs on the arms!" Alex said.

Alex gets off my back… They both have such different personalities… I like that. Having friends with similar personalities would be pretty boring.

"Wow, wow. Alright, let's head to the cave."

I look around; the villagers are still watching us with fear, even though we clearly look like people, not demons.

I feel uncomfortable.

"Were they scared of seeing me fly?"

"Demons, fairies, and angels can fly. They think you're a demon," Sara said.

Do I really look like a demon? Are there demons that look human? That's a big and important piece of information. I need to be careful with the people around me.

"Don't be afraid!" Alex started shouting. Huh? What's she planning?

"He's not a demon; he's an adventurer!"

Oh, she's trying to help me. Thanks, Alex, I appreciate the support.

After hearing Alex's shout, everyone starts murmuring… They really distrust us, huh? Ugh, I wish I could prove them wrong, but they have plenty of reasons to be afraid of me.

"An adventurer who flies? That's impossible."

"He must be a demon in disguise."

"Or an evil fairy in disguise."

Huh? Are fairies evil in this world? That's disappointing. I was hoping to meet kind fairies.

I'd better leave; I don't want them to be afraid of me.

I ignore them and walk away. I don't want to get involved in unnecessary trouble.

"He's the only adventurer capable of using all types of magic!"

T-that'll only make them more suspicious of me, Alex!

Everyone gasps and says the same thing: "All types of magic?!"

Arghhh! I don't want them to be more afraid of me! I don't want them to distrust me!

Sara grabs Alex by her right ear, and we keep walking. I-it's best to ignore the villagers and head straight to the cave. I only came to this village to check it out, but I think it's best to stay away from this place.

"I guess I shouldn't use the flying spell so often; they might mistake me. I don't want to be attacked by mistake."

I need to get used to being treated this way; after all, I accept that I'm a rare existence in this world.

While Daniel tried to stay composed and not get more nervous, two people watched him from a distance. They're wearing black hoods that hide their faces. Do they want to conceal their identities? No, they just want to look cool.

"He's a demon, sister."

"We must kill him, brother."

Two young people who don't know what they're getting into.

In short, two idiots with no common sense.

(Pov - Daniel.)

We leave the village and see the cave in the distance.

Wow, it's really huge… Awesome. Though I suppose what we need to explore are the underground paths beneath the cave.

"Alright, we're here."

Hmm… Let's see… Escaping will be tricky if we get lost, but thanks to my great memory, I'll easily memorize the way back. Carrying Sara in my arms and Alex on my back wasn't an issue, so I'll be able to escape with them easily.

Now, knowing how to escape doesn't guarantee I will. I need to try fighting or at least distract my future enemy to buy time to escape.

I need to know more spells. I need to protect myself from dangers. Before entering the cave, I'll review the spells and memorize them. I haven't had time to memorize them because of the whole thing with the king and looking for teammates… Well, I admit I wasted a lot of time eating instead of memorizing spells. That was very irresponsible of me, I accept it.

I pull out my phone and open the spell app.

Wow, it really worked; the king didn't trick me.

"There are a lot of new spells."

Sara looks at my phone, as if trying to decipher what it says.

"Do you understand that writing?"

The letters on my phone are in my language, so she can't understand them.

Well, it's in… Ugh. No need to explain my language.

"Your writing is different from mine; that's why you don't understand it."

"You know the language but not its writing?"

That's true. I admit even I don't understand that part of myself.

I can understand their language… I think God helped me with that.

Well, it's obvious he gave me that extra ability, mainly to save time. If I didn't have that ability, it would've taken me a long time to learn and speak the language. That ability saved me a lot of time.

"I know, I don't understand it either." A little lie so they stop asking.

Sorry, but I can't tell them anything about it. Sorry.

Oh, wow, wow.

I notice the spells can be sorted by type of magical power.

That makes things easier. I'll be able to distinguish the more powerful spells from the basic ones.

"Wow, wow… That could be useful."

I sort them and realize I have many types, except for angel and demon. Ugh, I wanted those kinds of spells; what a shame.

And I have two summoning spells… What can I summon? Maybe I can summon monsters or something like that. I just hope those summoning spells don't involve some woman; that'd be too cliché and awkward.

"I have two summoning spells. I wonder what kind of monsters I can summon."

"That type of magic is very rare!" Sara said, grabbing my arm while looking at my phone.

"Summon something!" Alex said, mimicking Sara.

I-I feel awkward, but I need to understand them; it's probably the first time they've witnessed someone using a summoning spell.

They both seem excited… I guess that's good. I'm glad to see them so thrilled, especially Sara, who seemed pretty cold and expressionless, but she's already opening her heart to me more, and I've seen many emotions reflected on her face.

Fufu. I want to see them more surprised. I'll use one of the spells.

I read one of the spells, and it catches my attention because its name includes the word "divine."

"This looks interesting… Divine horse, come to me! Please."

That last "please" isn't included, but I think it's rude to tell it to come without saying please.

Wow. It's working!

A white circle appears on the ground in front of us, and a magnificent unicorn appears out of nowhere.

The unicorn is so white, and its horn is red… Wow… Awesome!

Though that's not a horse; it's a unicorn.

"Awesome, it worked! Hi, my name is…"

"So cute!" both girls said, thrilled.

They didn't let me introduce myself and immediately approached the unicorn to pet it.

That was rude, but I'll forgive them because they're so excited to see a unicorn in real life. They're girls, after all. I understand women are the ones who get most excited about this kind of thing.

They both pet and hug it. I didn't expect Sara to hug it too. How cute.

Though I don't know how safe it is to approach; we still don't know if I can control it or if I need to earn its affection first.

"Who summoned me?"

… Huh? The unicorn talked…?! Ugh, who am I kidding? I was expecting this might happen, so I'm not that surprised.

But just because I'm not scared doesn't mean they'll react the same way.

They both got super scared and hid behind me.

Yes, I admit it's scary, but I summoned it; I'm sure I have control over it. I highly doubt it'll harm me.

Leaving aside that it talks, it's just awesome. A real unicorn that can talk… Wow. I'm really starting to like this world… I've gotten a bit used to it, so these kinds of situations don't shock me as much anymore.

"I-it talked?" both said, terrified.

I've already seen giant chickens wearing pants; nothing surprises me anymore.

"I'm the one who summoned you," I said, approaching it.

I stood in front of it, and we looked at each other.

Don't show fear, Daniel. You summoned it; don't be afraid. If you're afraid, you won't control it. You're in control, Daniel; you've got this.

"I see… It's been a long time since anyone summoned me. What do you want?"

"Sorry, I was just testing the spell. I apologize if I caused you any trouble."

"If you don't need me, I'll go."

"Take care."

"Yeah, sure. You too."

The circle appears again, and the unicorn vanishes.

Alright, it seemed friendly and civilized. I highly doubt I'll have any issues with it in the future.

"We have to ride that unicorn back!" Alex said, excited.

I guess her fear vanished when she realized the unicorn wasn't evil.

"I'd prefer that over flying again," Sara said.

I turn to her and smile.

"You're such a scaredy-cat. That side of you reminds me of my grandma."

Sara blushes… Shit, I need to smile less.

"Your grandma? Why?" Alex asked.

"Yeah, she was a woman who seemed strong but was pretty scared."

She acted tough so I wouldn't worry when we had financial problems or something like that. I knew we had issues, but she always smiled and acted like nothing was wrong to keep me from worrying. That's why I admired her with all my heart.

My grandma…

Ugh. I sighed, a bit melancholic and sad. I miss my grandma. It hurts to remember her.

I sighed again and took a deep breath. I need to move forward. Don't think about the past anymore, Daniel. Keep going!

"No time to waste; we need to go in."

I look inside the cave; it's pretty dark. We need some light to see anything.

"We need a flashlight. Do you have a flashlight in your all-purpose skirt, Sara?"

"No. Ugh, we forgot to prepare better before coming."

"Wow, wow. Well, don't worry; I already thought of a solution. Let's go."

"We're not going back for a flashlight?" Alex asked.

"No need. Trust me."

Besides, I'm pretty sure their candle flashlights wouldn't light up much.

We enter the cave, and I can barely see anything. It's one of the few times I've been in such a dark place. It's scary, but it makes me feel like a real adventurer.

"Alright. Stay on guard."

I turn on my phone's flashlight, and the girls look at me in awe. Another thing that surprises them, huh? They'd be shocked if they knew everything my phone can do.

"Amazing, that thing can do everything!" Sara said.

It's a basic phone function, but it surprises them. I really come from a world of technology. I wonder if my world is the only one with technology or if there are others with less advanced tech.

We start walking, and some strange noises echo. They're small animals, but I won't let my guard down.

I'd better prepare to fight.

"Muslar asio!"

W-wow, wow. I started trembling; I'm really scared because the mysterious noises frighten me. The sounds are like creaking furniture. I thought they were the animals, but these noises are from something else.

Ugh… Relax, Daniel; fear will only steal your focus. Just ignore the noises and keep going.

We keep walking, but the two get too close to me; I can even feel their breathing.

S-shit, it's awkward being with two women in such a dark place. It makes me feel like a pervert.

"D-don't get so close to me; it's embarrassing," I said, blushing, my face feeling hot.

"If Sandro or another adventurer were here, they wouldn't hesitate to grope us in the dark. I respect you more now," Sara said.

I'm not a sexual predator… And I'm not interested in sex either.

I'm a virgin… I've had several chances to lose my virginity, but I haven't because I want to lose it after marriage.

That's something my grandma taught me… Well, she said I should only have sex with the person I love with all my heart… I decided to lose my virginity after marriage for two reasons.

1: If I marry a girl, it means I love her with all my heart.

2: I'm poor. I don't want to ruin my life further by being horny. Sonia offered her body many times, but I always turned her down.

NTR… Sex… Oh… I see.

She cheated on me because I didn't want to have sex with her… Surely "he" gave her what she wanted.

So it's true what they say; sex is important in a relationship.

Ugh…

"Wait, I need to do something."

I sat on the ground and sighed.

Sonia… Why didn't you tell me you were horny?! If you'd told me that, I would've accepted your body because I loved you! Now another guy is defiling you! Damn it, I'm such an idiot! I'm so pathetic! I'm a disgrace! I don't deserve to be loved! Arghhh!

"Is Daniel… crying?"

"Daniel…"

The person I love cheated on me.

The person I love is sleeping with another man.

… Communication is important in a relationship, Sonia! Why didn't you tell me anything?!

… Ugh… That's why I'll stay single until the day I die.

"I'm calm now… Let's go."

The person I love? No. The person I loved.

I don't feel anything for her anymore… Nothing.

"What happened, Daniel? Are you having some issues?" Alex asked.

"Past problems. Personal and private issues. Sorry."

Sonia, I don't wish you ill or anything; I just hope you reflect on your actions.

At the guild.

While Alex and Sara were worried about Daniel, Rose and her sister entered the guild and approached Grey to ask about Daniel's whereabouts, as they wanted to talk to him.

"Excuse me, I'm looking for Daniel, the adventurer who has all types of magic."

Grey is shocked to see Rose's wings. It's not common to see fairies in a guild, especially walking without protection, indicating how powerful they are.

Fairies are very valuable in this world, so they're always targeted by hunters and powerful nobles.

"H-he went on a mission; he's not here."

"I see… Could you tell me where he went?"

"H-he went to the cave next to Iris Village."

"Thank you very much."

Rose and her sister left the guild, and a small giggle came from her younger sister.

"Fufu. You can tell they're not used to seeing fairies at all."

"This village has no importance to us, so it's really rare for them that we're here. Let's hurry to that village. If we help him with his mission, we might gain his trust much faster."

"Onward!"
