Chapter 16 - CHAPTER 4 (Part 2)

I told my grandma about the types of magic and the guild. Being an adventurer is my job now, so I want to explain how the guild works and the types of magic I have.

I don't want her to worry too much about me. I've confirmed that the only ones who can defeat me are demons, and they won't attack me for a year or more, or at least that's what I think. I'll be optimistic about it and told her they'd attack me in about a year.

I'm powerful enough to defeat class A monsters, even S-class, so I told her not to worry about me. Plus, with the money from missions, we'll be able to travel the world and improve people's quality of life.

My grandma was worried, but I begged her not to worry about me; she should only worry when I fight demons, but there's no need to worry when I fight regular monsters.

"And I'm rank A, though I still don't fully understand this rank thing. I don't know what my obligations or benefits are, but I guess it's a good thing, considering it's the rank before S."

Getting rank A so easily surprised me, but I didn't give it much thought, considering how weak the adventurers in this world are.

Ugh… I definitely need to defeat the demons on my own; having people help me would only cause unnecessary deaths.

"Do I have a type of magic too?"

"According to God, he gave you two types of magic so you can protect yourself."

"Two… Wow… Awesome."

I hope they're powerful magics; otherwise, I'll need to train her to make her stronger and able to defend herself. I'll protect her with my life, but life is unpredictable. Better safe than sorry.

"I'm sure I'll like this place. The air smells pretty nice."

"Though there's something I still need to figure out… Why are you so young?"

"I guess it's part of that resurrection spell you used."

"I guess… Wow, wow… Grandma, the girls who were with me are my teammates; don't tell anyone what I told you, got it? God forbade me from doing so."

"Trust me, I won't tell anyone."

Of course I trust you, Grandma, but I had to say it.

"Let's go to the village. We have a lot to do. Buy you new clothes, among other things you want or need."

"Let's go; I want to register at the guild."

"Let's… What?"

… Did I hear that right? She wants to register at the adventurers' guild?! Why?! No, no, no, no! I absolutely refuse to let her be an adventurer! I don't want her going on dangerous missions! She's worked her whole life; I want her to spend the rest of her life resting! I'll give her all the money she needs; she doesn't need to work!

"Huh?! N-no, you won't! I don't want you to be an adventurer!"

"Huh? Why not?"

"Grandma, if you die again, you can't be revived. Please, enjoy your new life and rest. You've worked your whole life; I want you to rest. I'll take care of earning money. If you want to do something on your own, I can give you money to start a business. Wouldn't you be interested in opening a Mexican, Japanese, or any other country or culture's restaurant? I think tacos would become popular in this world."

It's true; I could open restaurants and give jobs to homeless people.

Restaurants, flower shops… Hmm… I'll think of more businesses later.

"You expect me to stay at your house while you go adventuring? No, I'll go with you. If you have all types of magic, I don't need to worry; you'll protect me."

"… Do you really want to come with me?"

"Of course. I'd love to see you fighting monsters, Dani!"

… Arghhh! My grandma looks so excited; I can't bring myself to say no!

W-well, I'm powerful, and if I train her, she'll become powerful too. A-as long as they're not too dangerous missions, I think it'll be fine if she comes with me.

"A-alright, Grandma, but only rank A missions and below. I'll go with you to register and buy you new clothes."

"Thank you so much, Dani. I appreciate it."

"And, Grandma, there are very different things in this world; some are scary, so be mentally prepared. I'm powerful, but I only arrived yesterday; I still don't know this world well. Be careful and don't trust anything. I even suspect the plants here eat people."

"I'll be fine, don't worry; we have God on our side. I doubt he won't warn us about the world's dangers."

… Ugh, that's right, I forgot. My grandma is religious. Grandma, I'd love to tell you yes, God will protect us, but I can't lie to you.

"Speaking of that, God gave us the types of magic and the rest, but from now on, he won't help us anymore."

"Huh?! Why?"

"God's job is to observe and not intervene. He only helps a little in emergencies like this. He's forbidden from helping more or something like that."

"That's a shame, but don't worry, Dani; I can take care of myself. I won't be a burden to you."

"You'd never be a burden to me, Grandma! I just ask you to be careful; this world is too wild and dangerous. I've only been here two days, and I've already seen a lot of disturbing things."

Prostitutes offering me their services for free, I killed a demon, chicken men and a dog man, and there are also the weird animals that exist here.

So many strange things in two days, and I'm sure there's a lot more to discover.

"Let's go; there's a lot I want to show you. You might hear some disturbing things about me, but I just ask you to understand my situation. What I did and will do in the future is necessary to save this world; please don't be afraid of me."

"You mean killing monsters and demons, right?"

"… Yes… Yes… I killed a demon on the first day, and today I killed chicken men and a dog man… Those monsters could speak human language, and the demon I killed looked like a human in armor… I killed, Grandma; I'm a murderer… And I… I… I don't exactly know how to feel about it."

My grandma smiled and took my hand, starting to walk toward the village.

"Dani, you're the kindest, most polite, and good person I've ever known. I know everything you do will always be right. Not everyone understands with words, Dani. It'd be too optimistic to think dialogue solves everything in life. Doing the right thing doesn't always feel good. We've been taught that killing is wrong and no one has the right to take a life, but if you hadn't killed those monsters, more lives might have been lost. Take one life but save two. A tough but necessary decision."

My grandma stopped and patted my head.

"You did the right thing, Dani."

"Grandma…"

That's all I wanted to hear… I… I'm just doing what's necessary to achieve my goal. I'm just doing what's necessary. I shouldn't feel guilty.

I was scared my grandma would scold me or be afraid of me, but I'm even crying with joy knowing she still loves me.

"Thank you for being with me, Grandma. I'll always be grateful to you."

"I'm your grandma, Dani; I'll always be with you, in good times and bad. Let's go; I want you to show me the village."

"Let's go… B-by the way, some prostitutes approach me to offer their services for free, but I always refuse! I-I don't want you to misunderstand!"

"Fufu. Yes, I could see the women in the village staring at you. Even in this world, you're considered handsome, huh? Your father would've loved this world."

Y-yeah, I heard my father was quite a womanizer in the past, which is why my grandma taught me to respect women, to avoid being like my father, someone who took advantage of his attractive appearance, though he later learned his lesson and became respectable.

"Let's go."

"Let's go, Grandma."

We head to the village.

… My grandma came back to me… The only person who matters to me came back to me… Goodbye, depression. Hello, happiness, old friend. Please stay with me for a long time.

On the way back, I told her the rest of what happened to me in this world, as well as my magical power and my theory about why the demons aren't attacking humans with full force yet.

She seems fascinated with magic, so I'll teach her everything I know about it.

I think fantasy novels were very popular in her youth, so it makes sense she's so excited. I find that side of her really cute.

But there's something that makes me a bit uncomfortable, and it's her appearance. It's great news that she has such a young body since she'll live longer, but I'm still not used to her look.

Plus, my grandma is very beautiful. Men won't stop looking at her! I'll beat up anyone who dares to harass her!

I-I'd better calm down. I doubt any idiot would dare bother her; if they do, they'd be messing with me. I don't think they're that stupid.

After returning to the village, we arrived at the clothing store where I bought mine. While buying my clothes, I looked at the clothes they sold, and they looked really cute. I think my grandma would like them.

Upon entering, the owner greeted us with a smile and approached us.

"Welcome! What can I help you with? Looking for something specific?" the store owner said.

"Good afternoon, miss. I want to buy clothes for my… friend."

I-I can't call her grandma in public.

My grandma looks at me, confused. I-I'm sorry, but this is for the best.

"Friend?"

I lean close to her ear and whisper.

"It'd be weird to call you grandma when you look so young. I don't want to draw too much attention; they'd suspect me."

I'd rather avoid answering weird questions. Plus, I don't want them to find out I'm from another world. I don't want us to be investigated too much.

… Ugh… I just realized it's a pointless action since they're probably already investigating me; after all, I killed a demon.

Ugh, I need to find a way to keep them from discovering I'm from another world.

But I won't call her grandma in public; I don't want people to look at her strangely. My grandma looks young, so I want them to treat her as if she really is young.

"I understand."

"Miss, what kind of clothes do you want? May I make a suggestion?" the store owner said.

"Of course. Thank you. I'd appreciate it," my grandma said.

The girl picks out some clothes. N-no, t-that's…

"I recommend this outfit. It'd look perfect on you."

I-it's a super short miniskirt and a top that, obviously, would only cover her chest.

"Huh?" I said, confused by such a suggestion.

And for some reason, I imagine her wearing it in my mind and almost throw up.

Arghhh! I don't want to see my grandma wearing such indecent clothes! My eyes!

I know it's rude of me, but I can't help it! I don't want to see my grandma wearing clothes that show so much skin!

"Why did I imagine it?!"

Uwaaah! Gross! Erase that image from my mind, brain!

"Fufu."

My grandma laughed.

"Don't you have a bigger top and a less short skirt?"

"Oh, I understand. I have something perfect for you."

The girl hands her other clothes. W-well, those look more decent.

"Come, the fitting room is over here."

My grandma goes into the fitting room, and I wait patiently, hoping she looks decent and doesn't show too much skin.

"Please, let it be decent, let it be something decent."

My grandma is perfectly entitled to wear whatever she wants and feels most comfortable in, I know, but my grandma is supposed to be an old lady! Seeing her wear young girl clothes feels so weird! I-I need to get used to her new appearance first.

After a few minutes, my grandma finished changing.

She comes out wearing a black skirt that reaches her knees, a pink blouse that covers everything, white stockings, and black shoes.

Yes, she looks so decent! She looks really good. It's trendy and decent. The perfect combination!

"Well?" my grandma said, seeking my approval.

"You look decent; I think it's fine. It suits you well."

My grandma looks at herself in a mirror.

"It's nice, it's cute. Though I feel weird wearing such youthful clothes."

"How much is it?!" I said to the owner, to keep her from suspecting my grandma for saying that.

"It'd be 50 gold coins," the store owner said.

Considering the value of food, I think one gold coin is worth 10 dollars… No, not that much… Hmm… Maybe 5… Clothes are expensive, but I can't complain.

After paying her, I look around, searching for things for myself.

"Do you have men's shoes, socks, and underwear?"

"Of course we do."

"I want five pairs of shoes, five pairs of socks, and five sets of underwear, please."

I don't have that much money, but I'll buy more for her later.

Plus, I plan for Sara and Alex to go shopping with my grandma so they can get to know each other while I sort out my questions about her new appearance.

After a few minutes, the girl hands me my things.

"That'll be 250 gold coins, please."

Ugh, goodbye, savings. I'll have to do another guild mission.

After paying, we leave.

"Thank you."

"Thank you, come back soon!" the store owner said, richer than before.

We leave the store; I'm carrying two bags in my hands.

… Ugh, it's so expensive. My past self would be crying if he saw me. "Why didn't you buy food?! With that money, we could've eaten for a month! Maybe more!"

Honestly, I discovered I can earn a lot of money thanks to the guild. And if necessary, I can write books and sell them. I've read a lot of books in my life. I could steal those stories and pass them off as my own. I don't think I'll get sued for copyright. Fufu.

Pretty evil of me, but necessary if I want easy money. I'll do a lot of good with that money, so my sins will be forgiven.

"I needed more clothes."

"And for me?"

Sorry, Grandma, but I want you to buy your own clothes. I want you to meet Sara and Alex, since they'll be with us for a year.

"C-right… Sorry, I was selfish… I'm still not used to having you back by my side. We'll come back later, and I'll buy you more clothes. Or better yet, have Sara and Alex go with you so you can get to know them better. I have something to do."

"Don't worry, Dani… By the way, gold isn't that valuable in this world, Dani. I almost fainted hearing the price, but I realized the currency isn't worth as much as in our world."

"Yeah, I know; in our world, it's very valuable. We'd be millionaires with all the gold I've earned since I arrived."

With all the gold I've earned, I could buy a huge mansion and live a life of luxury in the other world… But I already gave away most of my money.

I don't care; I don't regret what I did.

We arrive at the house, and Alex greets us as cheerfully as always… Well, I say always because she's been smiling since I met her.

"Hey, Daniel!"

"Hey, I'm back."

I set my things on the floor and sigh… Ugh, so many surprises in one day. I'm exhausted.

"I need to go to the guild; I'll be back later."

"We'll go with you," Sara said.

"Hasn't Liz come back?"

"No. I don't think she'll be back all day."

"Alright. Let's go."

I'm going to see Liz's sister; I need answers.
