Chapter 5 - chapter-5 To the training ground

POV: Leekon.

Closing the door behind me, I quickly took off my armor and lay down on the bed in just my undersuit, no messing around. I wanted tomorrow to hurry up. As I lay with my eyes closed, trying to sleep, thoughts raced through my mind. 'It feels like every kid's dream – I mean, it's not every day you wake up in an anime world with powers. Counting the weeks in the incubator, I've been in this world for just over a month now.'

In the whirlwind of thoughts about my past life and hopes for this new one, I drifted off and slept like a baby in a surprisingly comfortable bed.

I furrowed my brow, feeling something tickle under my nose. 'Damn it, what is that? it's furry, I'm gonna snee-'

ATCHOO~~

I woke up irritated, looking for the culprit: "Who did that?"

Then, next to my bed, trying to hide a smile along with her tail wagging in front of me, is my mother: "I did, you slept in too much, kid; it's almost time for training."

I stared at her for a few seconds. I hadn't expected this kind of teasing from her, so I actually found it amusing, which eased my irritation a lot.

sigh~~

"Thanks for waking me up then."

She spoke to me for a few seconds before turning to leave my room, but stopping at the door, she said, "Come on, Leekon, let's grab some breakfast before we go."

I jumped out of bed and ran as fast as I could to the kitchen. Arriving there, I already saw a gigantic amount of food on the table, as much as I ate last night. Without wasting any time, we devoured everything she had prepared. Strangely, the meat in this world is much better than in my past life. Maybe it's the ki or my mom's just a great cook.

After we finished eating, we sat in silence at the table, a silence that wasn't awkward, but clearly each of us wanted to start a conversation.

"So, Mom, what's your name?" I asked, because what kind of son doesn't know his own mother's name?

She looked strangely at me: "Didn't you get any information about me during your time in the incubator?"

"I only knew you were my mother, but not your name."

She looked deep into my eyes and said, "My name is Vanie, but keep calling me Mom."

I nodded in agreement: 'Vanie, a good name.'

"Come on, Leekon, It's time for us to go." When she said that, I followed her to the front of the house, where she suddenly stopped, reached out, and grabbed me by the collar, holding me like a mother cat carries her kitten. I started to open my mouth to say something but before I could say anything, she said, "Don't bite your tongue," and started to ascend slowly into the air.

''What the hell?' I fought to keep from panicking at her sudden action and just tried to enjoy the view of the clouds slowly getting closer.

I looked down at the receding ground; people started to look smaller and smaller, some walking, others flying. "Be ready, kid."

"Okay," when she heard my voice, she suddenly sped up. I felt the wind whip against my face, my hair flying back – what an incredible sensation. 'I want to do this myself.' As we flew past a mountain range, in the distance I saw a strangely flat area on a mountain, looking like someone had shaped it into an arena.

She landed gently there, letting me go. I was ready for it and landed on my feet. "Stay put," she said, walking to the other side of the arena. There was a table with a few things on it: a glass container with some seeds, a scouter, and some kind of goggles. Next to the table were some raised beds for planting?

Anyway, she picked up the scouter and said, "First, let's see your power level." The device started whirring and the count climbed to 768. So my power had increased; it must have been from my ki training. She gave a nod of approval: "A good level to start with."

Then her voice took on a teacherly tone and she said, "Son, Saiyans are a race that grows through combat. We get stronger by shedding our own blood and that of our enemies." She said, looking at me, checking if I was paying attention. "But to avoid dying in combat while seeking more strength, we need to be our best selves up to that point; we must be prepared."

She's saying I need to be strong so I don't die like an idiot facing something I can't defeat just to try and get stronger. I can already picture several Saiyans dying that way.

"Or we shed our blood in combat, in a controlled environment," she said with a scary smile like someone who knows you're screwed.

Then, she took one of the seeds and threw it into the earth. "In this low-quality soil, a very strong one won't come out," she whispered.

After hearing that, I already knew where this was going. I was going to fight a Saibaman, those damn cabbage-headed goblins. I just hoped I wouldn't end up like the god Yamcha. "Son, this will be your first combat lesson; give it your all to defeat it." Then something sprouted from where she threw the seed, which then transformed into this humanoid with a wrinkled head, a face of someone who would like to shut you up, and worst of all, it's a little taller than me.

"This one only has a power level of 1000; give it your all to defeat it."

"With pleasure," I replied with a smile on my face. "So this is going to be my first fight, haha. I hope it's fun."

My mother crossed her arms as she commanded the Saibaman, "Attack the child."

I quickly got into a fighting stance, something rudimentary, lacking experience and proper training, waiting for my enemy to advance towards me.

=========================================================

Ugh, I'm so annoyed! I accidentally deleted half the chapter while I was in the middle of writing. The idea was to have two chapters out today: this one with the MC and his mom plus the start of training, and the next all about the Saibaman fight. I'll finish it up tomorrow or the day after.
