Chapter 29 - we are stuck

(He looks up in frustration, only to spot a vent above.)

Joy: Got it!

(Every room and washroom has a vent that leads to the back of the camp. That wall is low and the route is blocked off—no survivors or soldiers will be there. Even zombies would be rare.)

Joy: Sir! (runs to an officer)

Sir, I didn't get my phone back. Can I go retrieve it from the counter?

Officer: Fine. Go to that counter and find it yourself—I'm busy.

Joy: Thank you, sir. (He rushes toward the counter and quickly finds his phone. After grabbing it, he heads toward the washroom. He checks the surroundings—no one is around. Quietly, he enters a washroom directly beneath a ceiling vent. He climbs onto the toilet, opens the vent, and struggles to climb in. Just as someone enters, he manages to quietly close the vent behind him. He crawls through the shaft, eventually reaching the back of the camp. With one final push, he climbs over the wall and jumps out, running with all his energy to find his friends.)

(Meanwhile, on the rooftop of the building, Jack and the team are discussing their next move.)

Jisu: Should we go inside to get down?

Roy: What if there are zombies in there?

Ruby: How many do you think will be there—two or three? It's just a house.

Jack: What if it's a joint family—or worse, a party? We shouldn't take the risk.

Fiona: We don't even know the layout. Zombies could pop out from anywhere.

Jin: What about that alley? (points to a nearby alley that looks clear)

Jack: We'd need something to climb down. I can cut part of this rope, and 19 Century—do you have more clothes?

19 Century: Maybe... I have three shirts and two pairs of shorts.

Jack: Perfect. That should be enough for about three stories. Our average height is around four feet, so it'll work.

Fiona: So... we're making another rope?

Jack: Yup.

Ruby: Not again... (dramatic sigh)

(Jack cuts the maximum length of rope he can reach, and they tie the clothes 19 Century provides to extend it. It reaches just between the second and first floors.)

Jack: I'll go first since I'm the tallest.

(He climbs down and jumps safely. One by one, 19 Century, Ruby, Jisu, Fiona, Jin, and finally Roy follow.)

Roy: Alright, everyone's down. Let's go. (whispers)

(They tiptoe cautiously out of the alley and spot zombies scattered near the front. Silently, they move in a line along the wall. Suddenly, a blind zombie turns toward Jin. Jin panics and almost screams, but Jisu quickly covers his mouth. The zombie sniffs the air, suspicious. Jack calmly puts his bloody hand near the zombie's nose. Smelling the frozen blood, the zombie assumes they're one of his own and turns away. They quietly continue moving—until a bottle falls from Roy's bag with a loud clunk.)

Roy: Shit... (terrified, as a zombie turns toward him)

Jack: Run!!!
