Chapter 23 - Battle at Baker’s Street 6

As the battle began, everyone felt the world shift. Above the head of the insect abomination floated a health bar with a name highlighted above it. The name of the beast was 'King of Preachers.'

Izuku was the first to understand. 'The insect creatures must be called preachers or something like that. Also, the insinuation of a king must mean there's also a queen. Maybe that's where all of the little ones came from,' Izuku shouted to the rest of the group. 'So does that mean this is the biggest of these insect things, besides maybe the queen?!' Nana shouted back to Izuku. Izuku thought about it for a moment before his face went pale. 'Well, they're insects, and oftentimes there are more than one theoretical king in an insect hive. So probably not. If anything, this guy might be a small one, and if he is, that means the queen must be gigantic!'

"Quit messing around!" Mordred yelled at the two of them. "Who cares about what could happen in the future? Right now, we should focus on the present and on the giant spider butterfly thing!" Right after Mordred said that, a giant red arrow appeared on the ground, pointing towards all of them.

Those familiar with the video games quickly got out of the way, pulling anyone else around them with them. They watched as the King Preacher blasted past them, the disco-like lights touching the carpet below their feet. The carpet wasn't there for long, as the disco light circles burned straight through it.

Thinking quickly, Izuku began giving everyone in the group orders. "Mordred, try to keep his attention. Nana, use your quirk to get Emiya to higher ground. Emiya, try to hit the King Preacher's weak points. And Bob..." Bob looked over with a confused expression. "Shoot it till it dies!" Izuku shouted. Bob smiled and began pelting the creature with cannon fire.

Mordred ran forward with a new sword given to her by Emiya. The last sword she had possessed had shattered fairly recently; her physical strength seemed to stress the metal and melt it from the lightning. Because of this, Emiya had given her one of his special swords this time. It was longer than she was used to and wasn't a European longsword, but she would manage.

Following Izuku's orders, she was in charge of keeping the thing contained. Basically, she was the tank of the group because they didn't have Asterios. She didn't really mind this, as she often preferred to play video games with a more in-your-face, melee tank-type character. In this situation, she had the best tools and quirk for the job.

In the face of the monster, Mordred dodged its legs as they came down and smashed into the ground. She had to keep moving; any time that disco spotlight hit her, she felt her skin burn and her armor melt. Occasionally, the spider's abdomen would shoot webs towards Bob and Emiya. Emiya, with Nana's help, would move, but Bob required Izuku's micromanaging. At this point, Izuku was riding on Bob's shoulders, giving him basic instructions on where to step, when to fire, and what to fire at. Bob's cannon apparently had infinite ammo because he never reloaded, which was a blessing since he likely wouldn't remember to carry extra ammo.

Mordred had also quickly discovered that her lightning did nothing to the wings of the King Preacher. In fact, it made things worse for her and her companions. Just like with the candles, the lightning became something much worse and shot out of the wings like a laser hitting a mirror. Sure, she could dodge it without a problem, but everyone else couldn't. Emiya had to project a large number of swords to block the laser, and Izuku had to just straight-up hide behind Bob because neither of them could dodge it. Luckily, Bob could still move afterward, but he was not looking his best. He was huffing and tired and looked like he needed to take a very long nap.

Emiya continued to provide cover fire while aiming for the more vulnerable positions on the enemy's body. He could have used his pistols, but those weapons didn't have the range that his bow did. The pistols were better suited for smaller, human targets. He would be amazed if they did any damage to this abomination of an entity.

Bob was using a cannon, and the shells from that thing were doing barely any damage, and that was when they actually hit. Despite the massive wingspan and leg length of this creature, its actual body was very small. Sure, it was large for any insect or creature, but in comparison to its limbs and wings, it was tiny—a horse-sized body with giant squid-sized legs and gigantic wings! Of course, it would be difficult to hit it with a cannon.

Emiya tugged on Nana's cape, giving her the signal to move. After the two had distanced themselves from their previous location, a huge fireball struck. That's right; this butterfly creature could breathe fire.

As the group continued to damage the boss, they finally reached the point where the beast was at 25% health. Suddenly, the creature's health bar turned purple as an energy-like cocoon wrapped around it.

"Oh good lord, this thing has a second phase!" shouted Mordred as she ran back towards where Bob and Izuku were. The chrysalis began to grow and then suddenly ignited, cracking and shattering open. From the remains of the chrysalis, a great monstrosity wreathed in purple and blue flames emerged. It was the same creature, but it had shed its longer limbs and huge wings for a more streamlined and speedy form. Its limbs and wings now looked perfectly proportionate to its body, all while engulfed in flames.

They watched in silence as the creature began to fly around the room, moving so fast it was hard to keep track of it.

Emiya and Nana quickly rendezvoused with the others in the center of the room. Discarding his bow, Emiya equipped his pistols. This creature had clearly sacrificed its defensive capabilities and area-of-effect damage for speed and precision.

The battle that ensued felt more like swatting a fly than fighting a spider or butterfly. The boss displayed three distinct types of attacks in this phase.

The first was an assassination-type move; it would fly out of sight and then attempt to slice through the players with its flaming wings. The second attack was ranged; the creature would hover mid-air and shoot flaming webbing toward them, requiring the group to dodge the incoming strands. This tactic made it harder for the team to support one another, as they were forced apart. Fortunately, they could shoot down the webbing, but this risked losing the chance to hit the boss.

The third and final attack was like a game of "the floor is lava." The creature would dive underground, turning the floor into molten lava. Luckily for the group, similar to the first phase, arrows appeared to indicate where the boss would surface and which areas would turn to lava next.

After what felt like hours of dodging flames and molten rock, the group finally managed to stun the boss. Thinking quickly, Izuku ordered Bob to throw Mordred at their aerial adversary. Doing everything Izuku said up to that point, Bob abruptly picked up Mordred and hurled her straight at the boss. Laughing like a madwoman, Mordred soared towards the troublesome giant insect king and drove her sword straight through its head.

With the boss defeated, celebratory sounds erupted as confetti rained down from the sky, and the whole room seemed to magically restore itself. At last, they could finally wake up Leonidas.

== authors note

Yay! boss battle over! But it won't be the last. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed that boss and this sort of fight scene. I don't know is it a good fight, was it bad? I kind of just went over what everybody Including the boss was doing during this fight. It's hard to write fight scenes that don't get boring from just repeating, and he punched the opponent and the opponent kicked him and he punched the opponent.

So if you enjoy that. Please leave a comment. Bye.
