Chapter 21
When Skylar and Jordan walked out, Jordan was still looking at her like a maiden scorned by her unfaithful lover.
She sighed. "You wouldn't understand."
Jordan huffed. "Make me, then! You know how much Techna hates the President."
"Do you know why?" she asked calmly.
Jordan frowned, caught off guard. He searched his thoughts—maybe it started when she was nineteen. But the real reason? He had no idea.
"You see…" Skylar leaned closer. "If we act rationally, we could both—" she made a slicing motion with her hands.
Jordan's eyes widened. "W-why—h-he kills people too," he whisper-yelled, looking at her like she'd just confessed to murder.
"He thinks we know something," Skylar said, her voice lowering. "And the only time he feels safe is when he's watching us. Every move. Every plan. So if we said no—"
She smiled to herself, then turned to Jordan, eyes gleaming.
"We were tricked. That wasn't a peaceful meeting at all... Ah, he's clever. But we'll see who's smarter."
