Chapter 17 - Chapter 16 Demon Beast Meat

Yun Sheng prepared some porridge and went to the storage room.

The Double-headed Dog had just undergone a separation surgery, and in this world, there were neither blood replenishing potions nor nutrient liquids. Despite Yun Sheng's proper care, the Double-headed Dog was still facing significant weakness from extensive blood loss. Yun Sheng thought that it hadn't woken up yet.

Who knew, as soon as she entered the room, she heard a round of barking.

Isn't that the Double-headed Dog?

The young dog, now missing a head, had a robust and hefty look, with its right head slightly skewed and a pair of glassy eyes.

Because of the surgery, its fur had been shaved off, but just overnight, a short layer of fluffy hair had grown back. Although a bit thin, it looked quite like a modern dachshund.

"You're awake, little fellow with such tenacious life force," perhaps because Yun Sheng had saved it, the little dog harbored less hostility towards her, but when Yun Sheng put down the bowl of porridge, it refused to eat.

"Don't like it? You won't recover from your injuries if you don't eat," Yun Sheng sighed.

Maybe, later she would have to go to the hunters in the village and buy back some raw minced meat.

"Crap, I remembered to summon it but forgot I had to report to the Magic Temple," After becoming an apprentice at the Magic Temple, Yun Sheng was required to spend four hours each day there helping Great Mage Yang with sorting and gathering medicinal herbs.

Yun Sheng hurriedly left home, and after she was gone, the little dog looked suspiciously at the bowl of porridge.

The words of the human just now were still echoing in its ears, not eating meant not healing.

It hesitated, sniffed the bowl of porridge, and showed a look of scorn.

When Yun Sheng arrived at the Magic Temple, it was already noon, and Great Mage Yang scolded her fiercely with a grim face.

"Go tidy up the pharmacy. By sunset, all the medicinal herbs must be sorted out. If you don't do it well, don't think about taking this month's wages. And the innermost storage room, do not enter, otherwise…" This new Great Magic Director had a cold facial expression; with his chilling aura alone, normal children would probably not even want to approach him.

As he spoke, a cold light flickered in his gloomy eyes.

Yun Sheng was intimidated by his gaze and hurriedly pretended to obediently nod her head.

Naive child, there were nearly a thousand kinds of herbs in the pharmacy, let's see how she could sort them out well in four hours.

An inexperienced girl made him, the Great Magic Director, wait, truly ignorant of the vastness of the world.

After Yang Su left, Ye Beiming emerged from one side.

Yun Sheng looked at nearly a thousand kinds of medicinal herbs in the Magic Temple's pharmacy and frowned. The salary of a silver coin for the month was indeed hard-earned.

Luckily, Yun Sheng had plenty of experience in managing herbs.

She first carefully distinguished each kind of medicinal herb and then recorded it in a notebook.

Unknowingly, the sky outside had already darkened. A savory aroma wafted to Yun Sheng's nose.

Her stomach embarrassingly rumbled. Yun Sheng then remembered that in her rush this morning, she had not even eaten breakfast.

The source of the aroma was from Ye Beiming who was sitting by the window, not known when he came.

In his hand, he pinched a fluffy and soft large white steamed bun.

"Little Wildcat, are you hungry? Would you like to eat--ah," Ye Beiming winked at Yun Sheng, with a hint of mischievous mirth in his misty eyes.

Yun Sheng silently recited in her heart, "A person can be killed, but not humiliated; I refuse to accept charity."

Another 15 minutes passed, and those words became, "Dignity is indeed precious, freedom even more so, but if it's for the sake of food, both can be cast aside."

Just as she was about to swing her hands and snatch the food from Ye Beiming's grasp.

The latter elegantly took a bite from the steamed bun.

"You!" Yun Sheng was so angry she almost choked.

"Too slow, with your speed, facing that girl from Huoyan Village, you would die a hundred times out of a hundred encounters; not every time will you be so lucky," Ye Beiming, like a magician, suddenly had a roasted Demon Beast Leg in his hand which he tossed to Yun Sheng.

Yun Sheng hesitated, looking at the Demon Beast Leg in her hand, she recognized it was an expensive item, even the village chief's house couldn't afford to eat it often.

"With your frail body, without eating some Demon Beast Meat, your strength simply won't improve," the meat of Demon Beasts had a strengthening and fortifying effect; Yun Sheng had never eaten Demon Beast Meat before.

The tempting fragrance of the food was irresistible, Yun Sheng abandoned her ladylike deportment and gnawed at the beast leg, thinking of the little dog at home, she slowed down her eating pace.

"You better eat quickly, this beast leg was stolen from Great Mage Yang, it would be terrible if he found out," no sooner had Ye Beiming finished speaking than Yun Sheng coughed violently, her eyes nearly bulging out of their sockets.

"Don't glare at me, if you're worried about being discovered, just go up the mountain and hunt a few Demon Beasts yourself, but let me be clear, whoever eats is responsible; I won't help you," Ye Beiming finished speaking, flipped his body around, and vanished without a trace, leaving a furious Yun Sheng staring blankly.

This damn blind man, more cunning than a fox!

Yun Sheng viciously bit into the Demon Beast Leg in her hand, as though Ye Beiming was the piece of meat in her mouth.

But then again, that blind man's culinary skills were quite good.

Soon Yun Sheng felt a warm surge spreading through her limbs under the effect of the Demon Beast Meat.

Having heard that Demon Beast Meat could enhance one's constitution, it seemed the claims were true, Yun Sheng decided that early the next day, she would head into the mountains to hunt some Demon Beasts.

By sunset, Great Magic Director Yang approached the pharmacy and Yun Sheng was already waiting respectfully.

A neatly written herbal ledger with well-organized classifications was presented.

"Master Yang, there are a total of nine hundred and eighty-eight Medicinal Herbs in the Magic Temple, among which more than fifty have spoiled or become moldy, and I have already cleaned them up. The remaining nine hundred and thirty-eight have been placed in different drawers, each drawer has a corresponding number, you can check one by one," Yun Sheng handed the ledger over.

Great Mage Yang was slightly taken aback upon seeing the ledger; he had intended to make things difficult for Yun Sheng but didn't expect that she would have the pharmacy sorted out so quickly and orderly in just a few hours.

After checking each entry and finding no mistakes, Great Mage Yang's expression softened slightly.

He contemplated, "Who would have thought that in this small mountain village, there is such a child well-versed in herbal knowledge. It's a pity, born to a humble background and devoid of magical ability, otherwise if she focused on becoming a Magic Pharmacist, she might even succeed me."

After a moment of contemplation and finding no issues with the ledger, Great Mage Yang allowed Yun Sheng to leave.

"Master Yang, I've discovered that the pharmacy is out of Windbreak Grass, a common cold medicine frequently used by the villagers. There is a large patch on the back mountain. How about I climb up tomorrow and gather some?" Yun Sheng said, appearing innocent and dutiful.

"Alright, you are young, and it would be inconvenient for you to go up the mountain alone. I will have Beiming accompany you," the Mage with the surname Yang thought it over and agreed to Yun Sheng's request.

After Yun Sheng returned home, she found that the porridge bowl she left in the morning was still full, so she placed the mostly uneaten Demon Beast Leg in front of the little dog.

The little dog glanced at Yun Sheng, and finally unable to resist, gripped the Demon Beast Leg and began to gnaw on it.

A smile crept onto Yun Sheng's lips.
