Rose had always believed that her own life was a little unfair. Her parents were often too busy, her grandmother always scolding her, and sometimes she felt like no one truly listened to her thoughts. But now, sitting at the same dinner table as Lilith, hearing her story so calmly spoken....it shook something inside her.
Her sister Lilith had no one. No house. No warm bed. No lunchbox filled with home-cooked food. She had begged for coins on the street and washed dishes just to survive another day. And yet, here she was sitting like royalty, smiling gently, wearing a royal blue dress with her back straight and her heart full. Rose realized that she never really understood what strength looked like… until now.
And it made her eyes sting.
She looked down at her plate, blinking fast so her tears wouldn't fall. Her brother had protected her all her life. She never had to worry about hunger or sleeping on cold ground. She never once thought she'd need to walk those dark roads alone.
