Chapter 278, You Were Captured, Right?
The woman in the amber slightly moved her eyelashes.
Wu Heng immediately became alert, quickly stepping back two steps, positioning himself behind Skull-Crusher and Blood Axe.
Clearly, the amber before him couldn't be judged like normal amber from Earth.
Not only was the woman inside not suffocated, but some parts of her weren't fixed.
She could also hear the sounds from outside.
Seeing that there was still no danger, Wu Heng said to the amber, "I am the Deputy Steward of Gold-Silver Island. The Blood Hand Pirate Group has been killed by the guild. You are safe now."
The woman's eyelashes fluttered again, but she made no other movements.
What did this mean?
Did she not believe him, or could she only move her eyelashes?
Wu Heng took out his Deputy Steward insignia, held it up, and continued, "This is my Deputy Steward insignia. If you're from this ship, you can come out."
After his words, there were two or three seconds of silence.
The woman in the amber slowly opened her eyes slightly.
She glanced at the insignia, then at Wu Heng's appearance and clothing.
It was easy to tell whether someone was a pirate.
Wu Heng's look and aura clearly showed he wasn't one of the pirates.
He didn't even seem like someone who often went out to sea.
The next second.
The solid amber instantly began to liquefy, forming streams of yellow liquid that flowed into the necklace on the elf woman's chest.
It formed into a yellow amber pendant.
The woman lightly stepped onto the ground.
Her sky-blue eyes looked up at him.
"What's your name?" the woman asked softly.
Her gaze was like rippling autumn water, full of tenderness and affection.
"Wu Heng, Deputy Steward of the guild. What's your name?" Wu Heng asked.
At the same time, he wondered why she was looking at him that way.
It was like the look his women gave him when they were feeling affectionate.
"Shanaila, the owner of this ship," the woman said softly.
"Do you have any proof?"
The woman pointed to a part of the wall previously covered by the amber.
Hanging there was a vibrant oil painting of a woman seated proudly on a high chair, who closely resembled the woman before him.
There were just slight differences in her features.
The woman in the painting appeared cold and haughty, while the one before him looked gentle and tender.
It was clear that this was Shanaila.
"Alright, let's go. I'll take you outside for some fresh air," Wu Heng said, turning to leave.
Shanaila followed behind, saying, "Thank you for saving me, Deputy Steward Wu Heng."
"Just call me Wu Heng."
"Okay, you can call me by my name from now on too," the woman said softly.
Wu Heng continued to ask, "How did the pirates target you?"
Shanaila's expression instantly darkened, "These pirates set up an ambush along the route early on. Someone must have leaked my whereabouts to them. I'll investigate thoroughly when I get back."
Meaning.
Someone from within had leaked her route.
This allowed the pirates to set up in advance, waiting for this fat lamb to fall into their trap.
And the pirates had succeeded; she was the only survivor on the ship.
Seeing her gloomy face, Wu Heng comforted, "It's alright. Everyone meets some bad people in life. Just be more careful in the future."
"Yes, thank you," Shanaila said, stepping closer again.
......
The two of them reached the cabin door.
Sheila Grey's voice came through the earpiece.
"Wu Heng, how's it going on your end?"
Wu Heng gestured to the woman beside him and said into the earpiece, "All good, all the pirates are dead."
"The reinforcements arrived?"
"No, they had internal strife. I summoned Rotting Corpses while fighting and killed them all." Wu Heng said casually.
There was a long pause on the other end before the voice came back.
"If you've been captured, just say what you want to eat for breakfast."
Uhh...
This girl was quite cautious.
"I wasn't captured, the pirates are really dead. Besides, if I couldn't beat them, couldn't I just run?" Wu Heng responded.
"You alone killed hundreds? How's that even possible?" The voice was still filled with disbelief.
"Hmph! Now you see why Necromancers are so feared!"
"You're really not captured?"
"No."
"If you're lying to me, you'll regret it," Sheila Grey said, adding, "We haven't found Shanaila. We're heading over now. We'll wait for the guild reinforcements in the morning and then search thoroughly again."
Wu Heng glanced at the elf woman beside him and said, "Shanaila is with me. Just come back."
"Damn, you really were captured."
"Sis, you're overthinking this. We're standing on the deck; let Olin's beast take a look." Wu Heng said directly.
There was no reply, only silence.
Shanaila asked, "Your teammate?"
"Yes, they came with me to rescue you. They were searching the mountain for you."
"You lured the pirates on your own and killed them all?" Shanaila raised her brows.
"Just lucky."
"You're really impressive."
......
The two stood on the deck for a while.
Several figures emerged quickly from the darkness in the distance.
Sheila Grey waved her hand, and a gust of air erupted under her feet, launching her from the shore directly onto the deck.
She glanced at Wu Heng and then looked at the woman beside him, "Lady Shanaila, what are you doing here?"
Clearly, Sheila Grey recognized her appearance.
Unlike Wu Heng, who had asked several questions.
Shanaila nodded, "I was trapped in the cabin. Deputy Steward Wu Heng saved me."
She looked up as she spoke.
Sheila Grey felt something odd in her tone but couldn't pinpoint what.
She continued, "The guild's reinforcements will arrive in the morning. Please wait a bit longer."
"It's alright. Thank you for coming to rescue me. When we get back, I'll report this to the guild and ensure you receive recognition."
"It's our duty."
......
The other squad members quickly ran up.
"Deputy Steward Wu Heng!" they saluted.
Even the members of Squad One were noticeably more respectful.
Wu Heng nodded and said, "Clean up the battlefield. Find any wanted individuals and strip the rest of their gear. Bury them on the spot."
"Yes, sir!"
The group quickly went down and began gathering the bodies.
Handling the bodies could yield quite a few spoils.
With good luck, finding something valuable could bring in a significant income.
In the end, one leader and two key members were dragged out.
......
10 a.m.
The guild fleet arrived at Cocktail Island.
A large number of mercenaries flooded the island, only to find two stewards with a few squad members.
They were sitting at the port, yawning.
Steward Imiro led two guild squads off the ship, glanced at them, and asked, "Where are the pirates?"
The pirate ships were still there, so clearly, they hadn't fled.
Seeing Wu Heng didn't intend to answer, Sheila Grey stood up and said, "The pirates have all been killed. One pirate leader and two key members are on the wanted list, and Lady Shanaila has been safely rescued."
Imiro looked at them.
His eyes showed a hint of surprise.
