Herbert Medical And Technology

Blaze's Office

Savannah found herself all alone in Blaze's office, the silence wrapping around her like a heavy blanket. She stared at the iPad given to her, Taking a deep breath, she steadied herself, ready to unlock it when the sharp ring of the wired phone on Blaze's desk shattered the stillness. The sound echoing through the expansive office and making her heart skip a beat. She glanced at the ringing phone but didn't move to answer it. After a moment, the ringing stopped, leaving an unsettling quiet in its wake. Swallowing hard, she turned her attention back to the iPad in her hands.

Just as her fingers hovered over the screen, her own phone vibrated against the sleek wood of the desk, pulling her focus away once more. Her brows furrowed as she picked it up, staring at the unfamiliar number flashing on the display. A strange unease settled in her chest. Who could be calling her from a number she didn't recognize?

With a hesitant press of the answer button, she brought the phone to her ear. "Hello?" she said, her voice cautious.

Silence. No voice, no sound—just the faint crackle of static on the line. "Hello?" she tried again, impatience creeping into her tone. Then, finally, a voice she recognized broke through. "Savannah, it's me."

Her breath hitched. "Eli?"

"Yeah," Elijah confirmed.

"What's with this number? Why aren't you calling from your phone?" she asked, suspicion lacing her words.

"I can't," Elijah replied, his voice low and serious. "There's a high chance my phone might be tapped."

Savannah's stomach twisted at the thought. "Blaze?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

A heavy silence hung between them before Elijah finally spoke again. "Yes."

Her fingers tightened around the phone. "What about mine?" she began, fear creeping into her voice.

"No, yours isn't," Elijah interrupted quickly. "He respects your privacy. He wouldn't do that to you."

Savannah felt even more confused. Did he really? If so, why was he keeping so many secrets? Her mind raced with a whirlwind of unanswered questions, ones that only Blaze could clarify.

Elijah's voice cut through her swirling thoughts. "Did you get his iPad?"

"Yeah, I have it," she replied, clutching it a little tighter.

"Did he give you the password before heading off to the meeting?"

"Yes," she said, taking a deep breath.

"Are you ready?" Elijah asked.

Savannah nodded, even though she knew he couldn't see her. "Yes," she replied, trying to sound more confident than she felt.

"Alright, just let me know when you're set," Elijah said.

She punched in the password slowly, each digit making her fingers tremble more -her birth date. She hesitated upon seeing it, but then the screen unlocked, revealing only four apps against a dark wallpaper. Nothing else.

"That's all there is?" Savannah whispered, scanning the screen. "There's hardly anything here."

"Do you see a white icon at the very end of the slide?" Elijah asked.

Savannah carefully swiped, her eyes darting over every detail. And then, there it was—a fifth app, tucked away at the very end of the screen, almost hidden.

"Yes, I see it," she confirmed.

"Go ahead and click on it," Elijah instructed.

She tapped the icon, and a password prompt popped up right away.

"It's asking for a password," she said.

Elijah fell silent, deep in thought. Savannah's mind was racing too.

"Try the same code you used to unlock the iPad," Elijah suggested.

She typed it in. The screen flashed red. Incorrect.

Savannah's heart raced. "It's wrong!" she whispered urgently. "We have two more tries."

"Try 101323," Elijah said after a moment.

Her fingers shook as she entered the numbers. Again, incorrect.

"One last chance," she murmured, panic creeping into her voice.

They both fell into a tense silence, lost in their thoughts for several minutes. The weight of their predicament hung heavily in the air.

Then Elijah spoke. "I'm betting on this. Try the numbers I'm about to say."

Savannah hesitated, her brow furrowing. "Do you really think this will work? We can't afford to mess up our last shot at this."

"I'm betting our lives on it," Elijah said, his voice grim.

"What do you mean?" Savannah pressed, her grip on the iPad tightening.

Elijah hesitated. "I never told you this, but... if the wrong password is entered three times, there's a sensor inside the app. It will notify Arthur's phone that someone is trying to access it."

A chill ran through Savannah. "Why didn't you tell me that sooner?" she snapped.

"If it goes south, I'll take the heat. You don't need to worry about it."

"Are you out of your mind, Eli? I'm not letting you put your life on the line too. We should just stop—"

Elijah interrupted her. "This is your last chance to uncover what happened to your son, Savannah. Are you really ready to walk away now?"

Her heart clenched painfully. Her son. The thought of him being out there, alone, waiting for her to find him-it was enough to send tears spilling down her cheeks.

She exhaled shakily. "Okay... let's do this."

Elijah gave her the final numbers. "041221."

She paused, confused. "What's this?"

"It's the date when Blaze first met you," Elijah explained.

Her heart skipped a beat. She couldn't recall meeting him in 2021. Her mind was racing with questions, but there was no time to dwell on them now.

With trembling fingers, she entered the code. The screen flickered and then opened up to a list of files, each marked with a date and year.

"It's open!" she exclaimed, her voice barely above a whisper.

"What do you see?" Elijah asked, leaning in closer.

"There are a bunch of files, all organized by dates and years."

"Scroll to the very last file," Elijah instructed.

Savannah quickly scrolled down, her fingers shaking. "I'm there."

"Do you see a file labeled 'VIP'?"

She found it right away. "Yes, I see it."

"Open it."

She tapped on it, only to be met with another password prompt.

"Elijah..."

"Enter the date and year Theo went missing," he said, his voice steady.

Her chest constricted, but she typed it in. The file unlocked.

Inside, there were just two videos.

"There aren't many videos," she whispered.

"Play them. One at a time."

Her heart thudded in her chest. Her fingers shook as she clicked on the first video.

The screen lit up with footage of Blaze's study room. It was empty.

"It's Blaze's study room. But no one is there," she reported.

"Fast forward. Stop when you any movements," Elijah instructed.

She complied, scrubbing through the video until, at the three-minute mark, Blaze appeared. He was dressed in his suit. The timestamp read 3 AM.

"I see him. He's in his suit. The time says 3 AM."

"That must be the night we came back from searching for you," Elijah murmured.

Savannah swallowed hard as she continued to watch. Two minutes later, Arthur walked in—with Theo.

Her heart nearly stopped.

And then, what she saw next was utterly horrifying.
