The remnants of their lunch still hung in the air, a cozy blend of flavors and warmth that wrapped around them. It had been a quiet yet satisfying meal-one where neither rushed nor felt the need for excessive words. There was a natural comfort between them, an unspoken connection that filled the silence like a gentle tune.
Ten minutes had slipped by since they finished eating.
Now, Savannah and Blaze were settled on the large, plush couch on the left side of his vast office. The room was sleek and modern, exuding an air of luxury—minimalistic yet radiating wealth and power in every polished surface and thoughtfully selected decor.
Savannah leaned back, her body comfortably nestled against Blaze's side as his arm draped protectively around her shoulders. His presence was warm and steady—something she hadn't realized she craved until this moment.
Blaze turned his head slightly, his deep voice breaking the tranquil silence.
"Call me next time you want to have lunch together," he murmured, his fingers tracing gentle circles on her shoulder.
Savannah tilted her head up to meet his gaze. He was so close, his dark eyes holding something unreadable yet undeniably tender.
"I'll come running to you," he added, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips. "Then we can enjoy it together."
A warmth blossomed in Savannah's chest at his words.
There was something so sincere about the way he said it.
Something that made her heart skip a beat.
A soft smile danced on her lips as she held his gaze.
"I definitely will," she whispered back.
They lingered in that moment, simply enjoying each other's company. It was a rare kind of stillness between them. No tension, no hidden meanings. Just the two of them, together.
Blaze pressed a soft kiss to her temple, letting his lips linger for just a moment as he gently ran his fingers through her hair, weaving through the silky strands.
Just when Savannah was about to drift off, a knock broke the peaceful silence.
Blaze let out a resigned sigh.
"In." he called out, still not moving from where he was.
The door swung open, revealing Arthur, his ever-composed secretary, who stepped inside with a professional demeanor.
"apologies for the interruption, Boss," Arthur said, standing by the door with his hands neatly clasped. "But your presence is required at the board meeting."
Savannah could feel Blaze's muscles tense up a bit.
He exhaled out through his nose, glancing down at her with hesitant eyes.
She could tell he didn't want to leave.
Savannah offered him a small, reassuring smile.
"Go on, Blaze," she encouraged softly. "I'll be okay."
He didn't move.
"I'm not going," Blaze replied firmly, his grip around her tightening just a bit.
Savannah sighed, recognizing his stubbornness.
"You have to," she insisted. "It's important."
"I don't care," he shot back. "You need rest."
Savannah huffed, her lips curving into a knowing smile.
"If you don't go, I won't talk to you," she teased, raising an eyebrow at him.
Blaze narrowed his eyes.
He studied her face for a moment before letting out a defeated sigh.
"You're such a play," he muttered under his breath.
Savannah let out a soft giggle.
"Promise me you'll stay right here," Blaze said, his tone turning serious. "Just rest. No wandering around."
"I promise," Savannah replied, nodding. "I'll be right here waiting for you when you get back."
Just then, Savannah's phone on the table buzzed to life.
The screen lit up, showing an incoming call.
Blaze instinctively reached for it, his expression darkening a bit as he glanced at the caller ID.
Dr. Clark.
"You're supposed to be resting," he reminded her, moving to decline the call.
Savannah's eyes widened, and she quickly stopped him.
"It might be important, Blaze. Please, let me take it."
Blaze shook his head firmly.
"Nothing is more important than your health right now," he insisted, his thumb hovering over the decline button.
"What if it's about my patient?" Savannah countered. "If something happens to them, I'll feel responsible for that."
Blaze's jaw tightened.
He hated the thought of her stressing over work when she had been barely conscious just an hour ago.
"I won't let anything happen to you," he said softly, his grip on the phone tightening.
Savannah reached out, gently holding his wrist.
"I promise I won't go anywhere," she reassured him. "Just let me hear what he has to say."
Blaze hesitated for a moment, then sighed in resignation.
"Alright," he muttered, handing her the phone.
Savannah took it and slide to answer.
"Hello, Dr. Clark," she said, her voice steady as she listened intently to the other end of the line.
Blaze watched her closely, his eyes fixed on her face.
After a brief exchange, she nodded and replied, "Okay, I'll send it right away." Then, she ended the call.
Blaze crossed his arms, a hint of curiosity in his eyes.
"What did he want?" he asked.
Savannah set her phone down.
"He needs some patient documents from our latest cases," she explained, urgency creeping into her voice. "They're really important."
Blaze raised an eyebrow, intrigued.
She began scanning the room, as if hoping to find something.
"Do you have an iPad or something?" she asked, glancing his way.
Blaze took a moment to study her before answering.
"You need to send it through email?" he inquired.
Savannah nodded, her expression serious.
Blaze leaned back against the couch, his face a mask of contemplation.
"It'll take some time via PC," she murmured to herself. "Maybe I should call Bella, she must—"
Before she could finish, Blaze interrupted her.
"Take mine, Ana."
Savannah blinked, caught off guard.
Blaze reached up and gently ruffled her hair before calling out, "Arthur."
Arthur, who had been quietly standing by the door, promptly walked over and handed Blaze the iPad he had been holding.
Blaze took it and turned to Savannah.
"Here."
Savannah hesitated for a moment before taking it from him.
Arthur, however, couldn't hide his slightly puzzled expression.
Blaze was not one to share his this one belongings—his device.
Savannah looked up at Blaze.
"I'll give it back in a minute," she said, her tone a little too formal.
Blaze couldn't help but smile a little.
"Use it as long as you want," he replied, his voice warm.
As Savannah's fingers absentmindedly traced the edges of the device, she murmured, "Thanks."
Blaze leaned in closer, his lips brushing her cheek in a soft, fleeting kiss.
"Make yourself comfortable," he said gently. "And if you need anything, just call me."
Savannah nodded, watching as Blaze finally stood up and headed toward the door.
Arthur trailed right behind him.
The moment the door clicked shut, Savannah let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding and glanced down at the iPad resting in her hands.
Something about it made her hesitate.
Her fingers hovered over the screen, uncertainty swirling in her mind.
Little did she know...
She was on the brink of uncovering something that could change everything from the moment on.
