Chapter 18 - Travel

The group of shinobi traveled through the rocky terrain of the Land of Earth for the entire day, only to decide that it would be best to rest for the night. They were in the middle of nowhere, and while the possibility of an attack was small, it still existed. Therefore, the Tsuchikage had tasked the Anbu with protecting both the genin and him during the night. The Jonin would take turns through the night, with two sleeping while the others stayed awake on guard.

As it turned out, nothing happened during the night, and the group of ninjas left their campsite early the next morning, still with a long journey ahead of them.

After several hours of travel, the landscape began to shift, becoming greener as they moved forward. By the end of the day, they began to spot trees, signaling that they were approaching a more fertile area, and set up camp for their second night.

Once again, nothing occurred throughout the night. In the early morning, after a quick breakfast, the group packed their belongings and continued their journey.

On the third day, the group traveled further than expected. By the time they came across a small village, they decided to spend the night there. Normally, they would not stay in such a place, but given their swift progress, they felt it would be fine to rest there for the night.

The village chief was taken aback when he saw the Tsuchikage but quickly accommodated them by offering a small house for the group to stay in. Despite the short notice, the chief ensured that they had everything they needed.

That evening, the group spent a quiet night in the residence, well-rested and ready for the journey ahead.

The following day, after packing up their belongings, the group resumed their journey. Their next destination was a city in the Land of Earth near the Land of Waterfalls. This city was particularly affluent due to the large number of merchants that resided there. The Tsuchikage's group wasn't in a rush, knowing they would still arrive on time.

Arano had already arranged a house for everyone for two days, allowing them to rest and recover from the travel. But the rest was not just for relaxation. Arano had plans to train the six genin during the two-day stop, even though the time was short and they might not learn much in such a brief period.

His goal was to offer advice on fighting, as none of the genin had much combat experience. Additionally, he hoped to teach them specific skills and knowledge that could be useful for their future training or battles. But first, they had to reach the city.

The next day, all members of the Tsuchikage's group were awake early. After arriving at their destination, they went to the residence they had secured and spent the night there.

The group now had some free time. However, "free time" was a bit misleading, as the six genin were expected to spend their leisure hours practicing. They focused on jutsu, meditation, and weapon-throwing techniques.

Meanwhile, the Anbu didn't have much to do other than protect the genin and Tsuchikage. One unit stayed with the Tsuchikage, while the other stayed with the genin.

The genin continued their training throughout the day. The next morning, the Tsuchikage had a new plan for them. Rather than simply having them practice, he would offer them advice.

The first team to speak with the Tsuchikage was Team Y, consisting of Asato, Togi, and Mata. They were a strong team of genin and had the potential to become Chunin, provided they received the proper training.

Arano and Team Y strolled through the streets of the city, eventually moving outside the city's bounds. After a while, the Tsuchikage turned to see if the team was still following him, and fortunately, they were.

Arano then jumped onto a tree to gain the high ground before speaking to the members of Team Y.

"First, Asato, even though you're quite powerful, you can't rely only on physical strength," Arano began. "I noticed you have an affinity for Earth jutsu, which could become a real asset to you if you start learning more Earth-based techniques."

Turning to Togi, he continued, "Togi, you know a lot of jutsu, but you need to improve your mastery over them. From what I've seen, you have trouble executing some of them properly."

Lastly, he spoke to Mata, "As for you, Mata, you're an excellent kunoichi. You've mastered many jutsu and are particularly skilled at throwing shuriken. Your sensei told me you're one of the brightest students at the academy, and I can tell you're very skilled in picking up new techniques. I don't have much advice for you—just keep up the effort, and one day, you could even become a Jonin, or perhaps the next Tsuchikage."

Mata smiled at the compliment, but inside, Arano couldn't help but think, That would be impossible. I'm the last Tsuchikage Iwa will ever have.

After speaking with Team Y, Arano turned his attention to Team E. He didn't have as much to say to them, as their Sensei had done an excellent job training them. Despite that, the Tsuchikage knew they still had to prove their strength during the Chunin exam. If Iwa's team performed well, Arano's popularity would only rise.

Even though all the genin were strong, Arano wasn't going to take any chances. Their training would continue.

Now that the two-day stop was nearing its end, the group would soon resume their journey.

Here's a bit of info about chakra (from wiki):

Every living being has a chakra network that works in conjunction with their life-sustaining systems. Chakra is formed by one of two bodily forces—Spiritual/Soul Force and Physical/Body Force. These forces determine the flow of chakra within the body. Just as blood flows through the human body, chakra flows harmoniously within the body, and jutsu spells are the result of training to control and manipulate these forces.

Chakra within the body has a finite amount of energy, known as the Chakra Supply. The jutsu techniques that ninjas learn are documented in village archives and are classified by a universal ranking system.
