Chapter 6 - Ch 6

Newgate looked over at Pryce, his eyes full of questions.

"Pryce, what's happening to me?"

"When I first started eating them, I could still feel my old wounds being healed!"

"But once I got to around the twentieth one, I stopped feeling anything at all!" Whitebeard Newgate was just puzzle on why the senzu beans have no effect on him anymore.

"That means you're already healed!" Price replied earnestly. "These are still just the basic senzu beans, after all! For someone like you with years of lingering wounds, once you reach a certain amount, they won't have any further effect!"

Hearing this, both Whitebeard Newgate and Marco suddenly understood.

"All right, got it!"

"Could you help me look for these materials over the next while?" Pryce, well prepared for this, handed Marco a list from his pocket. "These are the ingredients needed to make intermediate and superior senzu beans!"

That move neatly cut off what Marco was about to say. Marco took the list overjoyed, carefully going over its contents.

"Is getting the materials going to be a problem?" Seeing Marco stay quiet while looking at the list, Pryce directly asked.

"They look rare, but it's not a problem!" With that, Marco strode out of the cabin and soared off into the distance with a flap of his wings. "I can use some underworld connections to collect them!"

"So, how effective are the intermediate and superior beans?" Whitebeard Newgate looked curiously at Price as he asked.

"It really depends on the individual," Pryce explained patiently. "For your constitution, one superior bean is more than enough! For most people's old injuries, so long as it isn't fatal or a missing limb, just one intermediate senzu bean will do! And for things like new wounds, basic senzu beans are definitely fine!"

Looking at Pryce confidence, Whitebeard Newgate couldn't help but grow even more fond of Pryce in his heart! Forget Pryce claim about protecting Pryce even at the cost of Whitebeard Newgate own life—for Whitebeard Newgate now truly realized just how important Pryce was! Protecting Pryce was a must—no question!

....

After two days of non-stop production in the senzu bean workshop, almost every combatant in the Whitebeard Pirates, from the division commanders down to the common fighters, now had their own bag of senzu beans!

So, when they clashed with Kaido Beasts Pirates, the Beasts Pirates were shocked to see that the Whitebeard Pirates fighters, who'd just been blasted by cannon fire, were all waiting for them healthy and full of vigor when they launched their attack! Caught off guard, the Beasts Pirates suffered defeat in battle after battle!

Soon, King the Disasters noticed how low their win rate against the Whitebeard Pirates had dropped lately! Normally, as an unspoken rule among pirates, in direct combat, fighters of the same rank would fight against each other! Even if there were higher-ranking fighters present, they wouldn't get involved! So, although the Whitebeard Pirates had more fighters, their basic strength was about equal! Usually, the matches between entry-level fighters on both sides would end fifty-fifty! Whitebeard Pirates stringing together so many consecutive wins had never happened before!

"Boss, this guy fought the Whitebeard Pirates just now," A pirate commanded his men as they carried in a pirate swathed head to toe in bandages. Only his eyes and mouth were left uncovered.

"Can you still talk?" King frowned at the pirate's serious injuries.

"Y-yes, Boss…" The injured pirate forced out in halting words. "I still r-remember the mission you gave me! Every Whitebeard Pirate fighter seems to have a bag of weird medicine! They look just like peas!"

"Medicine?" "Peas?" King furrowed his brow in confusion. Could the Whitebeard Pirates actually be giving their fighters some kind of stimulant? No way! The Whitebeard Pirates were famous for treating their own well—Whitebeard Newgate would never tolerate something so cruel!

"That's right, it looked just like peas!" The wounded Beasts Pirates fighter recalled in detail. "Eat one and the Whitebeard Pirates' fighters would instantly spring back to life, even after being beaten half to death! It was like nothing ever happened!" After all, the Whitebeard Pirate he'd fought had managed to get up three or four times after eating three of those beans! That was why he'd lost! Of course he remembered it clearly!

"What are those things?" King waved his hand, and the injured pirate was carried off for treatment.

"Can they really be that miraculous?"

King was left alone, frowning in contemplation. No matter how King thought about it, he couldn't figure out what these things were! After all, the medicine's effects seemed far too miraculous! Eventually, King made up his mind—he had to get his hands on some and study them!

...

The next day arrived quickly. King disguised himself as a regular fighter and joined the front lines vying for territory with the Whitebeard Pirates. Soon, he faced off against a Whitebeard Pirates combatant. After striking the Whitebeard Pirate and making him cough blood and collapse, King didn't chase after him. Instead, he moved aside and watched as the Whitebeard Pirate pulled a bag out from his pocket and was about to eat a bean!

At that moment, King sprang into action and instantly appeared in front of the fighter. In one swift move, King snatched the pouch, spread his wings, and took off.

As soon as he was back on his ship, King hurried straight to his room and dumped the pouch out on the table. Curiously, King examined it and found the pouch was filled with green, pea-sized medicine! He widened his eyes, picked up a senzu bean, and examined it closely. But the senzu bean was colorless and odorless—King couldn't make out anything strange about it!
