Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

Bernice's POV

I felt really heartbroken. I mean, was it too much to ask for him to at least talk to me? I didn't expect much, but the silence hurt more than I thought it would. My first love... and it ended so sadly.

Easter was just around the corner, and our school was hosting a dance before we went off for the holidays. Everyone was buzzing with excitement, making plans and picking outfits. Grace practically dragged me to the mall with Kim and Clara. Mirabel joined us later too. Grace's boyfriend was still in Togo, so guess who became her official sidekick? Yep, me.

We visited every single shop in the mall looking for the dress—you know, the kind that makes everyone turn and look at you like they've never seen you before. That's what we were hunting for.

After what felt like forever, and a hundred shops later, we finally found the perfect dresses. Of course, our rich babe Grace paid for all of us. (Love her for that.)

The pampering didn't stop there. We hit the spa for a full massage, then the salon to paint our nails and get our hair slayed. After that, we went heels shopping. This Easter dance was about to be one for the books!

Finally, the big day came. We spent almost four whole hours getting ready. Grace even got her private makeup artist to do our faces. We looked gorgeous—like celebrities about to step on the red carpet. We slipped into our gowns, teetered around in our heels, and admired ourselves for a while before piling into Grace's limousine (because of course she had one).

When we pulled up at school, it felt like a movie scene. Ernest, Festus, and Gerald were standing there waiting like knights ready to claim their princesses.

Mirabel was the first to get out. Gerald bowed and kissed her hand like he was some prince in a fairytale, then led her inside. Next was Kim; Festus did the same. Clara followed, and Ernest didn't disappoint either.

Then came Grace, stepping out like she was Beyoncé. Heads literally turned.

And me? I was the last. I got out and walked normally, not trying to make a show. That's just not me.

The dance was... magical. Gerald danced with Mirabel, Festus danced with Kim, Ernest danced with Clara. And me? I danced with Grace. Bestie goals.

Out of the corner of my eye, I caught David dancing with other girls. I just looked away and smiled to myself. For once, I didn't feel jealous. I was over him. Really.

The night flowed perfectly. They announced the King and Queen of the dance—Gerald and Mirabel! Everyone cheered as they slow-danced under the glittering lights.

Then it was time for refreshments (finally). I didn't even pretend to be shy about eating, though I made sure to eat with etiquette. (Manners matter, after all.)

Before the party ended, Grace's driver dropped me home. I made it just before my curfew, and even though I missed the last part of the dance, I didn't mind. My heart felt lighter than it had in weeks. Maybe letting go really was the beginning of something better.
