Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Child Is Gone

She signed her name with a heavy heart.

Remembering the scene of Shen Ming crying in the room, Su Ning's face turned cold.

"Find out who did this to my daughter. Who's the scum that has the audacity to harm her? I want to see if that person can still survive in Hai City."

After the miscarriage, Shen Ming spent the whole day lying in the hospital.

The next morning, her condition improved slightly, but to Su Ning's surprise, she was still there.

She had stayed the entire night in the hospital with Shen Ming.

When Su Ning learned this, she was somewhat stunned.

A woman like her, who valued time more than anything else, had abandoned her work and business to stay with Shen Ming the entire night.

What was going on? Had she truly begun to see her as a daughter?

After spending the night in the hospital, Su Ning arranged for her assistant to handle the discharge paperwork, preparing to take Shen Ming home to rest.

Afraid Shen Ming would get too emotional and disrupt her recovery, Su Ning waited outside the room, patiently waiting for her to wake up before calling her.

What she didn't know was that Shen Ming had already woken up early, spending the entire morning on her phone and not being able to lie still.

If not for wanting to maintain the image of still being weak, she would have gotten up long ago.

At that moment, Su Ning's assistant came hurriedly to her side.

"Ms. Su, Mr. Rong is here."

"Mr. Rong?"

Su Ning furrowed her brows.

"Young Master Rong," the assistant clarified.

"Zhaonan?"

All the pieces clicked into place in Su Ning's mind.

"That bastard, he dares to come here?"

Rong Zhaonan entered the room, showing no signs of guilt. He was upright and confident as he greeted Su Ning.

"Ms. Su."

Su Ning glanced behind him and saw that he was only accompanied by his secretary.

"Zhaonan, what are you going to do about this situation?"

Ms. Su was not someone to be taken lightly. After all, she was Su Yuyan's mother.

They had never had any conflict before, and even his grandmother had said that Su Ning was a formidable woman who could stand up to any man. It was best not to provoke her.

But he never intended to provoke her—he had his own reasons, mainly because of that "daughter" of hers.

Cunning, a master of acting, and a habitual liar.

"Ms. Su, I'll explain everything to you later. Is Shen Ming here? I'd like to speak to her alone."

Su Ning blocked his way at the door. It was clear she wasn't going to let him off easily until everything was resolved.

"Zhaonan, I've always treated you like my own nephew. I didn't expect this... You've really handled this poorly."

Su Ning's words caused Rong Zhaonan to raise an eyebrow.

It seemed the person in the room had said something to her.

"Ms. Su, what you see may not be the truth. This is all a misunderstanding."

"A misunderstanding? My daughter's lying in the hospital, and you tell me this is a misunderstanding? I've always thought you had a good sense of propriety, but you're just blindly favoring your subordinates, turning a blind eye to everything. Where's your assistant? Don't make me take action. If he doesn't give Ming Ming an explanation, I'll make sure you can't protect him either!"

Assistant.

Explanation.

Rong Zhaonan's eyebrow arched again, and even his secretary, Chang Wen, found it strange.

Just as he was about to speak, Rong Zhaonan stopped him.

"Su Aunty, it's fine. My assistant is just taking advantage of my favoritism. Chang Wen, call Zhuo Hang and tell him to come over to apologize to Shen Ming. Their private matter shouldn't be my responsibility to fix."

Chang Wen quickly retreated and made the call.

Seeing Su Ning's attitude soften, Rong Zhaonan glanced toward the hospital room.

The door was shut, and nothing could be seen.

"Su Aunty, Shen Ming's situation, along with my assistant's actions, is all over the internet. I'll have someone handle it. As for Zhuo Hang, I do take some responsibility. For now, let me speak to Shen Ming for a moment, what do you think?"

Su Ning's suspicions about her daughter's relationship with Rong Zhaonan were confirmed. It wasn't just him involved—it was his assistant too.

"Ming Ming is not in a good mood right now. She may not want to see anyone."

"Don't worry, I won't upset her. I'll just say a few words and leave."
