Chapter 4 - The Monster (Carter)

Carter, finally free from that damned gas station, began walking back to the WallFlower hotel, taking extreme care to avoid touching anyone or anything, determined not to feel that extreme pain again.

After hours of walking, Carter Clove finally reached the WallFlower. He quickly ran through the doors and into his room, expecting to see his sister, knowing she wouldn't be able to see him.

Carter looked around the apartment room, going in and out to confirm it was room 204. Realizing Natalie was no longer there, Carter ran downstairs and frantically shouted, "Hey!! Have you seen my sister Natalie!?!?" to the receptionist, forgetting in his panic that she couldn't see or hear him. The receptionist continued gossiping with her coworkers, oblivious to his distress. Annoyed and frustrated, Carter pounded his head and yelled.

He began walking away from the oblivious group when he overheard them talking about the police visiting the WallFlower. Intrigued, Carter moved closer to listen. "Yeah, the police came here and told a girl from room 204 that her brother was dead," the receptionist said. "Seriously?" one of her coworkers replied. "Yeah, they took her down to the police department."

Immediately upon hearing this news, Carter ran outside towards the police department, darting into an alleyway to avoid colliding with anyone. "BANG!!" Something slammed into him, but this was different from when people passed through him. This impact was physical; whatever it was could interact with Carter.

Excitedly, Carter yelled out, ecstatic at the thought of finally interacting with people again. He got up and turned towards the creature that had run into him.

It quickly pounced. It resembled a grotesque dog, with green smoke and green blood-like goo oozing from wounds on its body. It had no face, only one large eye and a mouth that stretched from ear to ear. It possessed six legs and two tails with blade-like edges, which it used as weapons.

Carter quickly shoved the grotesque monster off him, panting and running away while screaming, "Haa- w-What the fuck was that!!" he exclaimed after believing he had escaped.

The creature of the veil made a "GORAGG!!" sound as it leaped into the air towards Carter's face. Carter Clove punched the grotesque being in its apparent face. The creature slammed into the ground, panting. Carter began stomping on its head until it died, turning into smoke that flowed into Carter's body.

"W-w-WHAT THE FUCK!?!" Carter exclaimed as the smoke from the mysterious creature entered him. Carter Clove soon felt unimaginable pain. He could feel the green smoke changing him from the inside. "AUGHHHH!!" Carter yelled in agony before passing out.

Soon after, Carter woke up… and he could tell he was different. His eyesight was sharper, his cognitive abilities enhanced, allowing him to perfectly recall anything he learned. Mathematical equations that once gave him headaches were now perfectly clear. But it wasn't just his brain that was enhanced; his body was too. He could now run with the strength and speed of a wolf and the agility of a rabbit. The monster that had taken him ages to kill before could now be dispatched with no effort.

With this newfound strength and speed, Carter Clove quickly ran towards the police department, covering miles in mere minutes.

Arriving at the police department, Carter immediately searched for his sister. He reached the police chief's office, a plaque on the door reading "Clyde Artwin." Inside, Carter heard a policewoman arguing with the police chief. "Why do we have to drop Carter Clove's case??" she demanded. "And why did those men and women in suits take his little sister Natalie away!?!?" Immediately after hearing this, Carter ran outside to see if the people who had taken his sister were still there… They were gone.

"WHERE IS MY SISTER!!" Carter cried out, knowing no one would hear him. He yelled it over and over, but to no avail. He sank to the ground, sobbing.
