Chapter 34 - Chapter 14: A World in Pieces

With each passing month, Rein and Elara were traversing the land to help rebuild villages, heal old wounds, and restore that which was lost. The world was slowly healing, but reminders of the dragon wars were still stinging deeply in the fabric of society. Rein knew that so-called healing means more than just comforting—more than the mere rebuilding of houses; it meant rebuilding of hearts.

He began to see the faces of the children—those never known peace, whose only memories were of a world burning in flames. Their hollow eyes, mirroring his past torment, brought forth his very identity.

"We cannot change the past," he spoke one evening while gazing tensely into the stars hanging before him, "But we can give them a future; a better one."

Elara nodded. "That is all we have left to do. We cannot change what has happened, but we can help make sure this never happens again."
