Chapter 37 - Chapter 17: The Burden of Leadership

It was undeniably the peace he had sought and found within himself; yet the burden of leadership upon him was weighty. The olden days were still remembered by many, the days of dragon wars, and not all shared Rein's vision of peace. Some demanded justice, others sought revenge, and a few wished to return to a time of war, when everything was ruled by the strong.

As the head of the rebel alliance, Rein had to confront the growing conflict. There existed factions among the ranks of the alliance; each had an ideology differing from the rest. His voice was the one to whom the entire alliance listened, yet decision-making grew burdensome for him.

It was one of those nights when tensions were high at the rebel camp; Elara pulled Rein aside. "You have led them until now, but the world is not standing still, Rein; you have to think of what you want to lead them into in the future." "I thought I knew," Rein replied, his voice lowering, a troubled look crossing his face momentarily. "But now, I'm not so certain."
