Chapter 20 - chapter 19;Narrow escape

Anya, Lena, and the mysterious man fled through the forest, pursued by the Shadow Court's agents. They ran swiftly, dodging trees and leaping over roots.

The mysterious man led the way, his knowledge of the forest evident. Anya and Lena followed closely, their breathing ragged.

Suddenly, the mysterious man veered sharply left, leading them down a steep slope. They emerged into a small clearing, where a luxurious carriage waited.

"In here," the mysterious man urged, opening the door.

Anya and Lena climbed in, followed by the mysterious man. The carriage took off at a gallop, leaving the agents behind.

As they took a short stop to rest , Anya noticed a figure watching them from the shadows. He was tall, with piercing eyes and jet-black hair. His tailored suit hinted at wealth and status.

"Who's that?" Anya asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

The mysterious man's expression turned guarded. "That's Julian Blackwood. A wealthy patron with...interests in the supernatural."

Julian stepped forward, his eyes locked on Anya. "I've been watching you. You're connected to the Moonflower, aren't you?"

Anya hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. Julian's gaze seemed to bore into her soul.

The mysterious man intervened. "We'll discuss this later. For now, let's focus on keeping Anya safe."

Julian nodded, his expression thoughtful. "I'll provide assistance. My resources might prove useful."

Anya's instincts told her Julian was hiding secrets, but she sensed he might be an ally.

As the carriage continued on its journey, Anya

felt how Julian Blackwood's presence seemed to command attention.

"I appreciate your assistance, Mr. Blackwood," the mysterious man said, his tone neutral.

Julian smiled, his eyes glinting. "I'm happy to help. For now, let's focus on getting you to safety."

As they kept on going farther and farther, leaving the Shadow Court's agents behind. Anya felt a sense of relief, but her mind was still racing.

As they rode, Julian's gaze lingered on Anya, his expression unreadable. She sensed he was sizing her up, but she couldn't quite read his intentions.

The mysterious man on the other hand , watched Julian warily, his eyes narrowed. Anya wondered what he knew about Julian's true motives.

...

As the sun began to set, the carriage stopped in front of a grand estate. Julian gestured for them to follow him.

"You're welcome to stay here until it's safe to leave," he said, his smile charming.

Anya exchanged a glance with Lena, then followed Julian into the mansion. The opulent decor and lavish furnishings seemed to whisper secrets.

As they settled in, Anya couldn't shake the feeling Julian was hiding something.

For now, she'd just have to wait and observe
