Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Whispers Beneath the Ancient Sky

Chapter 21: Whispers Beneath the Ancient Sky

The heavy mist still clung to the world when Aiden, Selene, Kael, and Lyra set out from the ruins of the forgotten temple. Their path wound deep into the unknown forests, where the trees were so tall and thick that sunlight barely kissed the ground. The air was damp, rich with the scent of ancient bark and blooming wildflowers.

Each step forward felt heavier than the last.

Since the temple trial, the bond between them had subtly shifted. They weren't just four strangers anymore; they were becoming something more — a group tied not by chance, but by an invisible string of fate.

Aiden walked ahead, his pet monkey, Lumi, curled peacefully on his shoulder. Lumi's tiny white tails flickered with movement now and then, and the little blue sparkles he sometimes gave off drifted lazily around them, unnoticed by most but deeply comforting to Aiden.

They had no map. No proper destination. Only the faint whisper of the Mark Voice, the guide that had led them since the day they were thrown into this era.

> "Head toward where the river meets the sky," the voice had said, cryptically.

Whatever that meant, they were determined to find out.

A Hidden Village

After days of travel, dodging strange beasts and sleeping under massive trees, the forest began to change. The trees thinned, giving way to fields of glowing flowers and small silver streams that reflected the sky like mirrors.

There, hidden in the valley, was a village unlike anything Aiden had ever seen.

Stone towers, twisting bridges woven from living trees, and houses carved into cliff faces—it was like something out of a dream. Magic pulsed faintly in the air here, but not violently like the battles they'd seen — it was... calm. Natural.

Villagers with gentle smiles and strange robes bustled about, speaking an old tongue the group barely understood.

When they entered, all heads turned.

And then, an old man, his beard reaching his waist, hobbled forward. He carried a staff made of crystalized wood, and his eyes—blind and clouded—seemed to look straight into their souls.

"You have come," he whispered, his voice hoarse.

> "The Children of the Rift... destined to awaken the sleeping sky."

The villagers bowed in respect. Aiden exchanged a look with the others — confused, cautious, but a spark of something deeper beginning to burn in their hearts.

This was no ordinary village.

This place had been waiting for them.

Ancient Lessons

Over the next few days, the villagers welcomed them, providing food, shelter, and — most importantly — knowledge.

Through ancient scripts, forgotten songs, and silent meditation under the stars, they began to learn.

Selene showed a natural talent for channeling magic through her voice, weaving minor enchantments into the air.

Kael, strong and stubborn, began learning how to manipulate physical energy — strengthening his body far beyond human limits.

Lyra, ever quiet but sharp, delved into the art of illusions — creating shimmering images of beasts and places.

Aiden, however, struggled.

The magic here didn't answer him like it did the others. No matter how much he tried, nothing powerful came. Only Lumi's soft blue glows, and a faint warmth in his heart when he held the pendant he had found back in the ruins.

The old man, who the villagers called Elder Myrin, took Aiden aside one night.

"You seek what is not yet yours," he said. "You are not like the others. Your power lies deeper... tied to the Forbidden Era itself."

Aiden frowned. "What do you mean?"

The Elder smiled, but it was a sad, tired smile.

"Your mark… your very soul... is entwined with things even we do not dare name."

Before Aiden could ask more, a distant rumble shook the ground.

The night sky flashed red.

The First Shadows

They rushed outside — the peaceful sky now torn by a massive rippling tear, as if something from another world was pushing through.

From that crack fell creatures of nightmare — twisted beasts with too many eyes, covered in black smoke. Their roars shook the earth.

Panic.

Screaming villagers.

Fire blooming across the fields.

Without thinking, Kael charged forward, his fists like iron. Selene sang a haunting melody, weaving shields of sound around the villagers. Lyra cast illusions to confuse the monsters.

Aiden? He stood frozen.

Until one of the monsters lunged straight at him.

In that moment, time slowed.

Lumi — usually lazy, gentle Lumi — leaped from his shoulder, his four tails blazing with soft blue fire. The monkey screeched, a ripple of pure force exploding from his tiny body, knocking the beast aside.

Aiden stared in awe.

> Lumi... was no ordinary pet.

Something inside Aiden stirred — a power so ancient it felt wrong, like opening a door that should never be opened.

He clenched his fists.

He wouldn't be useless anymore.

Aftermath and Revelation

The battle raged until dawn.

When the monsters finally fled back into the tear, leaving scorched earth and broken dreams behind, the villagers wept. Not for their dead — for there were miraculously few — but for the sign they had seen.

> The Rift was weakening.

> The Forbidden Era was starting to bleed into this world.

Elder Myrin gathered them around the sacred bonfire.

"You must leave," he said. "This place cannot shelter you anymore. You must head toward the Stone Circle of Ysera. There, you may find what you seek."

Aiden looked at the others.

Tired. Scared. Determined.

They nodded.

Their journey had only just begun — but already, they could feel it:

The true war was still sleeping... waiting.

And when it woke, the sky itself would tremble.
