Chapter 7 - Misplaced feelings.

Unique abilities, abilities, and Blessings.

All concepts one would find in a game or fictional stories.

Almost everyone who was into these types of things wished they had these unique abilities, something to make them special, different from the rest, or maybe just to escape their everyday boring lives.

Somehow, that very thought was now a reality in this new self-destructive world.

Kara, someone who was known to only be a streamer and a supportive girlfriend, now had the ability to end a life if she willed it so.

While Jayhan hasn't seen a lot of people's abilities to fully measure how powerful Kara might be, he could still compare it to the people from the game store.

And none of them even came close.

At best, they had only four skills; none of them seemed to have any unique skills.

Yet, Kara managed to get not one, but three different unique skills.

Jayhan sighed.

"Things are happening too fast; it's kinda hard for me to keep up with it all," he muttered.

"Right…"

"And honestly, seeing as we still have 30 minutes of the monsters raiding everywhere, I don't even think I have time to think about it."

"True…"

"…"

Jayhan slowly raised his head to look Kara in the eye.

He was seated on the ground with his back resting against the wall, while Kara knelt in front of him, her eyes focused on his lips as he spoke.

"Is there something on my face?" he asked.

"What do you think?"

Jayhan sighed again. "I can't tell what goes on in your head if you don't—"

Before he could complete his words, he felt Kara's soft lips press against his, the warmth spreading through his body.

No doubt, he felt his stress reduce in that moment… Still… He didn't expect her to do something like that out of nowhere.

As soon as she pulled away, Jayhan uttered with a robotic look…

"This building is being surrounded by monsters trying to break in, and kissing me is what is on your mind?"

"Well yeah, I was low on energy and needed to refill. I don't see anything wrong with that."

Kara gently stood up, licking her lips seductively while looking at Jayhan with one hand on her waist. "Besides, it was good, wasn't it?"

Jayhan was mostly used to Kara teasing him, but something about the moment didn't seem to calm him all too much.

Also standing to his feet, he uttered,

"We have thirty minutes until the quest is over. If we are going to remain here, then we should at least make sure everywhere is secured." He looked towards the door in the garage. "That door should lead to the main house; we should search there and make sure there aren't any open areas for the monsters to break in."

Kara pouted.

She couldn't believe Jayhan didn't react to her kiss.

"If we secure this stronghold, we might even be able to make this place a permanent HQ. What do you think? Good idea?" Jayhan looked at Kara, trying to get her opinion on the matter.

"Sure," she replied.

[Kara is upset you haven't spoken about the kiss]

'We are in an apocalypse! How the hell is this woman even calm?! Tsk, is it because she has high-tier skills now?' Jayhan raged in his mind, but he quickly calmed himself.

Now pointing at the door—

"Why don't you go and search the house? I'll scan the building to see how many monsters we have on us. Probably another human we can link up with."

"I thought we left the first group because you didn't want to group with anyone?" Kara asked.

"No, I didn't go with them because it would be a waste of time. So many people going to do the same thing outside during a raid is stupid. I have no interest in doing something like that," replied Jayhan, walking towards one of the garage walls.

"This boyfriend of mine…" Kara made an exhausted sigh and then moved towards the door. "I'll go search the house as you've asked."

With that, she opened the door and walked in.

Leaving Jayhan standing in the garage alone.

[Opening skill stats from support system.]

[You selected the blessing of the Mother of Protection and Offense.]

[This skill blesses the user with immortality for defense and power-based attack for offense depending on the level of threat. This skill can only be used when the supported character needs to protect their leader.]

Staring at the template, Jayhan was quick to understand how the unique skill worked.

Depending on her opponent, her attack power will rise to match their strength, and she will be immortal, meaning she can't receive any meaningful damage as she would always come back to life.

Jealous.

Jayhan wanted nothing but to transfer the skill to himself, but alas, it's impossible.

Then again, it wasn't all bad if someone like Kara had this skill. Considering no one really knew how the world works currently, having aces will play a huge role in their survival.

'I should do my part too…'

[You are currently using the SSS skill Radar.]

[Detecting for enemies within 30m.]

[579 enemies have been detected.]

Jayhan's eyes widened in shock.

He could not see them physically, but as tiny red dots that have completely surrounded the house all the way to the ceiling.

'How are there so many of them?!'

He looked at the giant screen.

(Time left: 25:34 minutes.)

He then chuckled nervously. "This might be the longest 25 minutes of my life."

Looking away, he began to head towards the stairs. Staying down in the garage isn't doing much as it is. He might as well go help Kara in the main house.

Except something weird happened the moment he took a single step close to the door.

They found him.

[Skeleton Warriors are within range.]

[Skeleton Warriors are within range.]

Jayhan immediately turned around, and there, he could see them, the monsters growing out of the ground as if they were once one with it.

He wanted to turn around to run inside the building, only to see that more skeletons seemed to be appearing there too.

Jayhan now realized he had been cornered.

...
