Paola left the company with red eyes.
She had tried to stop herself from crying as she did not want to keep on satisfying the ones who had betrayed her, by looking like a complete mess.
But, she really could not control her tears. It kept on pouring out of her eyes.
"Stop crying, you idiot. Stop wasting your tears crying because of those jerks". Paola said to herself as she walked, but it seemed tears poured out of her eyes even more.
"Why me?". She halted as she asked herself.
To make everything worse, rain started pouring from the sky without any warnings.
The sun suddenly disappeared, and the weather had darkened a little bit.
Staring at the sky with both her hands shielding her eyes, she muttered, "You have got to be kidding me".
After she lowered her head, she stared around her and couldn't say a word when she saw that all the people, young and old, were with their umbrellas in their hands.
How come she was the only one who did not know about the rain?
How come she was the only one without an umbrella?
"Ha! My life is so pathetic! I don't think there is anyone else who is as pathetic as me". Paola exclaimed and was laughing deeply as she shut her eyes and allowed the rain to soak her body.
As she eventually opened her eyes, she found a bench not so far away from her, so she went there and sat on the bench.
She rested her head on the bench and shut her eyes again. She was not surprised that those passing by ignored her and could not offer her any spare umbrella. After all, in her life, she had the worst luck.
It wasn't enough that her birth parents, whom she knew absolutely nothing about, abandoned her.
But, no one offered to adopt her.
She had always been an outcast, even among orphans.
"What did I do wrong?". She whimpered as she asked herself.
Later, Paola stopped sitting on the bench and laid on it instead.
She did not care what people would think of her.
If they like, they should call her crazy.
If they like, they should call her insane.
All she knew was that she was done trying to fit in. To her now, behaving nicely and trying to please others would only lead to your untimely downfall. She learned that the hard way today.
Trying to please others was like a balloon trying to please a thorn.
It was hilarious how Paola could fall asleep on the bench, despite the pouring rain.
….
When Paola woke up, the rain had stopped. But, her body was soaking wet, and she felt sick.
She stayed in a sitting position on the bench and opened the purse that was still hung around her neck.
Then, she took out her cell phone from the purse and tried to check the time. But, the rain had damaged her cell phone. She expected that, since her purse was wet.
A bright smile appeared on Paola's face. "This is normal, Paola. Don't feel bad. You and bad luck are good friends". She nodded at herself in agreement when she said this.
Not seeing any reason to remain in this place, she stood up from the bench and decided to go to the orphanage.
Ever since she left that place, she had never stepped foot there.
She didn't want them to see how pathetic she had become.
But now, she wanted to meet one particular person, before she could go and set herself free from this world.
There was a bus stop up ahead, so she went there and waited patiently, as she was not in a hurry.
A green bus stopped by the side of the road and she entered it.
This time around, she did not have to hurry to get on the bus, because she was the only one standing at the bus stop.
Additionally, there was enough space for her to sit.
After she paid for the bus using her plastic card that miraculously did not get damaged, like her cell phone, she made her way to the empty seat at the window.
Her wet footprints were almost all over the bus.
She sat down and opened the window, not caring about her fellow passengers who were staring at her.
Paola rested her elbow on the window side, with her eyes fixed outside as the bus moved.
'I wonder if my biological parents are alive somewhere. I wish I could meet them, so that I can slap their faces and give them a piece of my mind. How dare they give birth to me if they would end up abandoning me in the end?'. Paola thought to herself and clenched her other fist.
The weather was cool, warm and cozy.
Even breathing in the air gave off a very warm and unexplainable comfort.
But, unfortunately, it was a nightmare for Paola. Everything happening today was a nightmare for her.
A nightmare that would soon end, because of what she was going to do soon after she finished meeting that person.
