Chapter 5 - what if Shepard was the reincarnation of Guts

Core Background:

Reincarnation of Guts: Shepard is the soul of Guts reborn in a new form, with all of his previous memories and instincts intact. Having already slain the God Hand and the Idea of Evil, he is a seasoned, broken soul who has survived the worst horrors imaginable. He is not merely a soldier — he is a man who knows loss, revenge, and the weight of destiny.

Personality:

Haunted, stoic, determined, but also deeply empathetic to the suffering of others.

Not driven by vengeance alone — instead, Shepard is seeking peace, knowing full well it is a fragile, fleeting thing in a universe like this.

Has a sense of fate and destiny tied to him, but he resists it, preferring to carve his own path in the chaos.

Has a more cynical view of the world. He's scarred mentally and physically, often pushing others away but reluctantly accepting that he's a natural leader.

The Black Swordsman aspect is ever-present: when the battle is on, he's focused and unrelenting, with rage beneath the surface.

Appearance & Enhancements:

Physical Appearance:

Height: Same as Guts — towering at 6'8" with a body of raw muscle.

Body: Covered in countless scars — each one a testimony to battle. His skin is rough and weathered, more like armor than flesh.

Eye: Silver left eye from Guts, reflecting the pain of everything he's endured. The right eye is normal, but the left flickers with memories of his past life and the torment he went through.

Hair: Wild jet-black hair, which flows and catches the light like a symbol of his untamed spirit.

Left Arm:

Cannon-arm (reminiscent of the Dragon Slayer and Guts' prosthetic). While it might appear as an actual arm, it's reinforced with synthetic materials to augment its strength. This arm is capable of devastating power strikes, and is more like a massive sword in itself.

Other Enhancements:

Shepard's body is heavily augmented to withstand extreme trauma. There's a combination of biotic enhancements and cybernetic reinforcement to support his combat abilities, though these augmentations are rougher than the standard Alliance enhancements.

Biotic Abilities: These stem from the merging of Guts' raw power and Shepard's own combat focus, allowing for extreme control over battlefield space — telekinetic swipes to throw enemies or crush them under immense pressure.

---

Weapons:

Dragon Slayer:

His signature sword from his previous life, now a biotic-enhanced energy blade, capable of cutting through any material. It remains physically massive, and Shepard wields it in battle, despite its weight. It hums with raw destructive energy, reflecting the deep rage of his past life.

Pulse Rifle (Modified):

A combination of tech and raw kinetic firepower, enhanced to match his strength and agility. While not his main weapon, this is used for ranged support.

Omni-tool:

Shepard's omni-tool is crafted to work in sync with his left arm, allowing for quick hacks, healing, and tech use — as well as deployment of personal drones for support.

Mass Effect 1: Guts-Reincarnated Shepard

Eden Prime:

When the Geth attack, Shepard immediately recognizes them — and after battling countless horrors in his previous life, he's unfazed by the attack. However, the Reaper presence shakes him. This feels far worse than anything he's faced before — he immediately recognizes the Reapers as a form of fate, an inescapable force, like the Idea of Evil from his previous life.

Saren:

The concept of control deeply disturbs Shepard. He views Saren as a tragic figure — someone who's already been indirectly indoctrinated by a force that demands sacrifice without meaning. Shepard tries to prevent this fate, offering him the chance to fight back, but Saren is beyond redemption.

Virmire:

Shepard's heart aches for the Krogan, knowing the burden of being part of a species that was driven to extinction. His mind races, realizing how much the Krogan remind him of Zodd, and seeing their plight awakens rage and sadness in him.

The Citadel:

Shepard's relationship with the Council is strained. He respects their role, but their politics frustrate him. He can't understand why they're so resistant to fighting an existential threat like the Reapers.

The Garrus Shepard bond is incredibly strong, and Tali respects him deeply, seeing the silent torment he bears.

Mass Effect 2: Guts-Reincarnated Shepard

The Lazarus Project:

Shepard awakens in a cold and dark world, yet it's nothing compared to the darkness of his previous life. He's brought back from the brink, but the rage never leaves him. He's dead inside, but his body moves on, finding new purpose.

Attitude Toward Cerberus:

Shepard distrusts Cerberus entirely, but his desire for a final battle against the Reapers outweighs his hatred of them. He agrees to work with them, but his loyalty is only to his team, not Cerberus or its ideals.

Squad Relationships:

Miranda finds herself in awe of his unwillingness to back down, and they share a complex bond.

Jack recognizes him as a kindred spirit, sharing his rage against the world. There's mutual respect and potential for romance.

Legion: Legion sees Shepard as something profound — the concept of a synthetic life form shaped by a past so violent. They share a complex bond, learning from each other.

Suicide Mission:

Shepard's leadership is unmatched. He balances rage with calm calculation, ensuring a perfect strategy for the mission. His final battle with the Collectors is a storm of brutality.

Mass Effect 3: Guts-Reincarnated Shepard

Reaper War:

Shepard sees the Reapers as a continuation of his war against a malevolent force, much like his fight against the God Hand. Their mere existence is an affront to everything he's fought for.

His influence on the war effort is monumental. His leadership brings a sense of finality to the conflict, as if the universe is drawing towards a grand confrontation.

Geth/Quarian War:

A key moment of reconciliation happens when he finds himself facing the Geth. Just like with the Elder Dragons or Zodd, he understands the power of evolution — the Geth's rise mirrors his own struggle with fate.

He does everything he can to save both sides, preventing the worst of the conflict.

Catalyst Decision:

When he faces the Catalyst, Shepard knows this is his last fight. He chooses destruction — not for vengeance, but for closure. To destroy the Reapers is to end the cycle of the world's suffering, to cut through the dark web of fate once and for all.
