Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: Set Traps

The image of Half Horse Half Wolf kept appearing in Lucifer's mind, making it impossible for him to sleep. Even if he tried to close his eyes, he was still worried that the monster would come and kill him while he was sleeping.

With the amazing speed the monster used to grab Nothing when he was about to walk away, it was not surprising that it would kill him instantly.

That was why Lucifer stayed up all night, he stayed up with a restless mood, he knew that staying up all night was not good for his health, especially when he was in the Trial. But he would rather be tired the next day than be attacked by Half Horse Half Wolf while he was sleeping.

From now until morning, Lucifer had to be on guard and had to rely on Nothing.

"Hey Nothing, you keep an eye on the back while I keep an eye on the front." Lucifer said.

Just now, Lucifer summoned Nothing again, although he initially resisted a lot, he eventually had to listen to Lucifer. If Lucifer died, Nothing would also disappear.

Therefore Nothing could not let Lucifer die. Just as Lucifer was obsessed with freedom, Nothing was also obsessed with the desire to live longer.

The two of them leaned against each other without daring to say anything. Lucifer held Dagger Of The Night tightly while Nothing held the wooden spear tightly.

They could not let down their guard even for a second.

Just like that, a new day had come and they had stayed awake until then. But even when the sun had risen a little, lighting up part of the forest, Lucifer still could not let down his guard.

There was still a possibility that the terrifying monster was still around.

***

When the sun had fully risen and the moon had disappeared, Lucifer was able to relax a bit and jump down to the ground, Nothing also jumped down after Lucifer.

Thanks to the encounter with that monster last night, Lucifer was reminded to be more vigilant than before. Just one mistake could lead to his death.

Lucifer treasured his life very much, so he would try his best to never die.

But Lucifer didn't know that he had died 216 times in just one day yesterday.

"Hey Lucifer, what should we do today?" Nothing asked.

Because of yesterday's incident, Nothing had changed a little. He cursed less, but that didn't mean he didn't curse anymore. Furthermore, he had been trying to follow Lucifer everywhere, even when Lucifer needed to go to the bush to relieve himself.

At first, Lucifer still felt a little uncomfortable, but he got used to it. Moreover, having a companion would help Lucifer worry a little less.

"I think we should do some renovations on our base today." Lucifer replied.

"Renovation? What do you mean?"

"I was thinking of setting up some traps in case any monsters come to our base. But before that, we need to go find food and water." Lucifer replied firmly.

Lucifer hadn't eaten anything yesterday other than that apple, since it was only the first day, so he didn't really need to eat meat. But since he would be here for a long time, meat was a necessity.

Lucifer would have gone back to the shore to get water, but he was lucky enough to find a very large lake deep inside the forest. Furthermore, the water here was crystal clear, so clear that Lucifer could even see the bottom of the lake, proving that it was extremely clean.

Since Lucifer didn't have much time to filter the water, he just drank the water straight from the lake without filtering it, it seemed to be very clean anyway.

Lucifer quickly used his hand to put the water in his mouth, but before he had the chance to do so, Nothing suddenly stopped him.

"Hey, is the water here clean?"

"If you don't want to drink, then leave. Owen taught me that the water in the Trial wouldn't be dangerous, if the water looks clean then it is fine to drink, didn't you hear what Owen said?"

Ignoring Nothing's words, Lucifer quickly drank a bunch of water, he drank so much that his stomach bulged out, looking quite funny.

But this didn't affect Lucifer's movement, so he didn't care much about it.

***

Lucifer returned to the base safely without bringing any meat back. He had decided that meat wasn't really necessary for him right now, so he would hunt animals at another time.

But Lucifer couldn't go hungry tonight, so he took 2 apples back to the base like yesterday. 1 for him and 1 for Nothing. Since there weren't many apples left on the tree, Lucifer had to be frugal, he only dared to eat 1 apple a day.

After everything was settled, Lucifer started to work on building traps.

Ever since the idea of setting traps to avoid monsters popped into his head, Lucifer immediately thought of making a deep hole, and at the bottom of that hole would be placed many sharp wooden stakes.

It was both effective and easy to do.

Using Dagger Of The Night, Lucifer spent more than 30 minutes creating a shovel from the pile of wood he got from a nearby tree. He couldn't guarantee that this shovel would work because it was his first time making something like this and also because this shovel was made entirely of wood.

It would probably break immediately.

But contrary to his thoughts, this wooden shovel worked better than he thought. Although it couldn't be compared to a normal shovel, it was enough for Lucifer.

"Hey Nothing, dig some deep holes around our base. In the meantime, I'll go make some wooden stakes." Lucifer handed Nothing the shovel.

Nothing didn't say anything but sighed, but he still took the shovel from Lucifer and got to work.

Why would Nothing sigh when he was going to do as Lucifer said anyway? He was such a confusing person.

***

Nothing started digging holes deep and wide enough since the sun was about to reach its zenith. And currently, the sun was gradually setting and the temperature was getting much hotter.

It was now afternoon.

It could be seen that Nothing had spent a few hours digging 8 holes that met Lucifer's criteria.

For an inexperienced person like Nothing, digging 8 holes in a few hours was very good, but since Lucifer had no experience in digging holes, he couldn't judge Nothing.

When Nothing tiredly climbed up from the 8th hole, Lucifer had already finished preparing all the sharp wooden stakes. He thought this would be an easy job, but it turned out to be much more challenging than Lucifer expected.

His hands were blistered and extremely painful, but Lucifer still felt quite proud of his own work. This is the first time Lucifer made something like this, and to be honest, he had done a good job.

If it was just him, Lucifer would never be able to complete these traps in just one day, but luckily he had Nothing by his side.

Together, they were truly a good duo. But sometimes they still fought like cats and dogs.
