Chapter 45 - Blades and Bonds

The forest grew dense and ancient as Meliodas led the Seven Deadly Sins toward the shadowed edge of Phantomfox territory. Twilight filtered through the trees like spilled ink, the light fractured by branches that twisted like claws. Every step forward stirred unease—birds had long gone silent, and even the wind dared not breathe too loud.

The tension snapped with a shriek of bowstrings.

A volley of jagged, black-fletched arrows rained down from the canopy, cutting through the air like death given wings.

But Meliodas didn't flinch.

"Full Counter!" he bellowed.

A golden light erupted around him, the air warping from the surge of power. The arrows froze in mid-air—then twisted, reversing course with lethal speed. Screams echoed through the woods as the ambushers were thrown from their trees like ragdolls.

"Show yourselves!" Meliodas called out, his voice calm but sharp. "We don't have to fight. We're here to talk!"

The undergrowth shifted. From behind a moss-covered boulder, a figure emerged—a towering ogress with broad shoulders, dusky skin painted in ritual war marks, and a bone-bladed spear slung over her back. Her crimson hair was braided into a warrior's crown, and her eyes, hard as flint, narrowed as she assessed the man before her.

"I am Brynna," she declared, each syllable thunderous. "Chief of the Stonefang Clan. Who are you outsiders, and what gives you the right to trespass in our lands?"

Meliodas took a step forward, arms spread in peace. His golden eyes shimmered with warmth.

"I'm Meliodas, captain of the Seven Deadly Sins. We come on behalf of the Kingdom of Legends. Our Lord wishes to offer something better than war. He wants you to join us—not as conquered foes, but as honored kin."

Brynna scoffed, one brow rising. "You come to recruit ogres? Strange diplomacy. We are not often welcomed by kings."

Meliodas smirked. "He's not just a king."

He let the words hang like thunder.

"He's a dragon."

That stopped her.

Behind her, an elder ogre leaned in and whispered, "A dragon? The one from the stories? The Sovereign who unites the strong… who turns enemies into legends?"

Brynna's stance shifted. She had heard the rumors—the Dragon King who embraced monsters, misfits, even demons… and turned them into something more. Her eyes narrowed thoughtfully.

"You know what they say about dragons," the elder murmured. "They protect what is theirs. Fiercely."

The silence that followed was heavy. Brynna studied the warriors before her—each one powerful, unafraid, but unjudging. Not enemies. Not invaders. Just messengers of something greater.

"If what you say is true…" she said slowly, gripping the shaft of her spear, "…then we'll come. But not in surrender. We'll test this Dragon King. And if he is worthy, we will sharpen our blades for his cause."

Meliodas nodded with a grin. "You won't regret it."

He turned to the deeper part of the woods and raised his voice.

"And now, we need to speak to an old friend. She's been holding the line here."

From the shadows, a lithe figure emerged, draped in a veil of illusion. A sly grin curved her lips.

"Did you miss me, Captain?" she purred, brushing hair from her cheek with a gloved hand. "Tell your Lord I await our reunion. And that I hope he enjoyed the pictures I sent."

Merlin, standing nearby, twitched slightly. Her smile remained—but her pupils narrowed like blades.

Trying to seduce him already…? Tch. Not on my watch.

[Heart: Update complete! Brynna – Ogre Chief of the Stonefang Clan – has pledged allegiance to the Kingdom of Legends. Integration pending. Bonus Affinity acquired: "Respect for Strength and Diplomacy." Faction morale increased.]

Elsewhere… beneath the world…

The stone gate groaned, ancient and angry, as it opened into a scar in the earth. Dust billowed into a crimson-hued sky as the runes above flickered to life.

[Endless Dungeon: Warlords of the Goblin Abyss]

Most would hesitate. Madara didn't.

Clad in crimson void-leathers, scythe and gunbai strapped to his back, he stepped forward. Shadows seemed to recoil from him, and the gate slammed shut behind.

Wave 1: They came like ants—goblins, shrieking and savage, wielding rusted weapons and bone spears. Madara moved through them like wind. His first strike beheaded three. His second disemboweled a war shaman. He didn't speak. He danced—a storm cloaked in steel and spite.

[Heart: Wave One Cleared. Void Counter: 12%. Adrenaline Surge Active.]

"Not even a warm-up," he muttered.

Wave 5: Tricksters. Goblin bombers, engineers, saboteurs. They laid traps and cackled behind walls of meat. Madara wasn't amused. Three shadowflame kunai flew from his hand—precise, merciless. The rear lines exploded, sending limbs and shrieks skyward.

[Heart: Wave Five Cleared. Void Counter: 37%. Battle Focus Triggered. You're beautiful when you're vicious.]

"Don't flirt while I'm working, Heart."

Wave 10: A giant emerged. Four arms. Bone cleaver and steel anchor. Goblins chanted, "Grul'Zakh!"

"Come get it, filth," Madara spat.

They clashed. Madara slid beneath a wild swing, drove blades into the beast's knees, then vaulted over him—ripping tendon, muscle, and will.

He ended it with a blade to the skull.

[Heart: Warlord defeated. Keystone Fragment acquired. You're one down. Many more to go.]

Wave 20: Chaos incarnate. Assassins. Riders. Flamethrowers. Archmages.

Madara bled.

He roared.

He killed.

Magic rained down. He blinked through it, slicing mages before their chants ended. Corpses stacked like pyres.

[Heart: Wave Twenty Cleared. Void Counter at 81%. Madara… you're a monster.]

"And they'll remember why I was called the Ghost of the Uchiha."

Wave 30: The gate shattered.

He stepped out—the Abyssal Goblin Warlord. Twelve feet tall. Obsidian armor. Twin venom-blades. An Emperor Core pulsed in his chest.

"KNEEL, FLESHTHING."

Madara didn't blink.

"I kneel to no one."

He summoned Susanoo—an ethereal titan of wrath. Its blade cleaved reality. The Warlord struck with shadowed rage—but Madara adapted, countered, consumed his strategy.

And when the final blow landed—scythe through core—the floor collapsed in silence.

[Heart: Emperor Core Acquired: Abyssal Goblin Warlord Core]

[Unlocked Abilities:]

• Warlord's Mind

• Goblin Kin Engine

[Dragon Mountain Upgrade Activated: Wargrove Subterrane Now Accessible.]

Madara stood over the corpse, steam rising from his blood-soaked form.

He dragged the core to the teleport rune, looked up at the stone ceiling, and smiled.

"Tell Shin," he growled, "his new kingdom of monsters just gained a general who thinks like a swarm."

[Heart: Transmission sent. You're officially terrifying, Madara.]

"Damn right."

Back on the surface…

The teleport rune flared as Madara emerged from the dungeon, carrying the core like a war trophy. His armor still smoked. The skies above the capital turned dark.

Lightning crackled.

Wind howled.

A pressure settled across the land.

At the same time, a caravan reached the edge of the Phantomfox lands.

Meliodas led the way, whistling as the sun dipped below the trees. Behind him came the other Sins, then Brynna—proud, towering, her clan marching with her.

"You sure he'll accept us?" she asked, voice rough with years of battle and unspoken hope.

Meliodas turned, smiling.

"He already has."

From the highest tower, Madara stood beneath the sky's rage, warlord core pulsing in his hands.

And far above, lightning struck the throne room of Dragon Mountain, casting a divine silhouette over Shin's form as the Ascension completed.

The storm had a new name.

Kingdom of Legends had awakened its next phase.

And war… would never be the same.
