________________________________________________________________________
1 minute and 3 seconds into the Palace Infiltration Operation.
The third floor of the palace was cloaked in thick smoke, forming an enclosed battlefield.
Two figures stood within—the towering silhouette of Morel, wielding his signature giant pipe, and the rapidly approaching Shaiapouf.
But Pouf… was deranged.
He was mumbling to himself, shaking violently.
"I've failed the King... I should die... I don't deserve to be Royal Guard..."
Then, his expression suddenly stiffened—becoming solemn.
"You're not going to speak? Naturally… that's to be expected from a capable Nen user."
Morel didn't respond.
He had already received intel from Knov—that Pouf's scale dust possessed hypnotic properties.
That meant only one rule: Do not breathe it in.
From the moment he deployed his Deep Purple to flood the third floor with smoke, Morel had held his breath.
He trusted in his lung capacity—but he also acknowledged just how fast and adaptable Pouf was.
The moment smoke rose on the third floor, Shaiapouf's wings had already begun shedding scales.
He must have realized that brute-forcing his way out of the smoke wouldn't work—so instead, he'd counter by weaponizing the battlefield itself.
While Morel appraised him, Pouf was analyzing Morel right back.
Scale Dust of Love's Fountain
Also called "Mental Messaging", this ability allows Pouf's scales, once inhaled, to induce hypnosis.
But that's only the most superficial effect.
Its core function? Visualization of emotional auras.
Pouf could see the flow of an opponent's aura, interpret their mental state—and from there, deduce their potential abilities.
From Morel's aura alone, Pouf calculated three emotions:
Alertness: 2
Determination: 3
Confidence: 5
A dangerous mix.
A veteran fighter, calm and composed in his home terrain.
"Allow me to introduce myself. I am Shaiapouf, Royal Guard to the King."
He gave a sweeping, elegant bow.
Morel's aura only twitched slightly in response.
"Still won't speak? Tch. So cold. If you think I introduced myself just to bait you into inhaling scales... how tragic a misunderstanding."
More and more scale dust began swirling around Pouf, forming a vortex—threatening to envelop him.
"Such heartbreak… but no matter. I'll simply—rebirth anew!"
He hadn't even finished his sentence.
Suddenly—a pair of hands burst from the ground at his feet.
Between them—a swirling patch of blackness opened.
Knov emerged in a flash, flinging the void upward.
The blackness wrapped around Pouf's head and—
Vanished.
The Portal Cutter (Window's Open)
Knov's secondary ability—his only offensive move.
A conjured portal to another space—capable of erasing anything it touches.
Even Nen defenses couldn't stop it.
With a closing gesture, Knov sealed the void—taking Pouf's entire head with it.
Or so it seemed.
Pouf's body didn't collapse.
Even Knov, still crouched beside the fading scales, could see it now:
A fake. A decoy.
The form wrapped in scales began to disperse—not blood, but particles.
Knov's glasses caught the reflection of realization.
Without hesitation, he opened the Window's Open again—and swept the entire vortex of scales, three times over, obliterating every trace.
From behind, Morel ramped up his aura—massively.
With his vision sharpened, he could now see the truth.
A tiny creature, the size of a bee, hidden between smoke whorls.
Its expression was… sour.
It was Pouf.
Or rather, the real Pouf.
Knov's triple assault hadn't been wasted—just misdirected.
Morel understood it instantly.
Decoys. Multiples. But this tiny one… this is the original.
Then where are the others?
They exchanged glances.
In one look, a plan formed.
Shaiapouf, still hovering as a speck in the smoke, clenched his jaw.
He had correctly assessed Morel's traits.
But Knov was the unknown variable.
He had underestimated him—his precision, his judgment, his synergy with Morel.
The Beelzebub Ability (King of Flies)
Pouf's signature move—he could disassemble his body into billions of microscopic clones, right down to nanometer scale.
That was his method of escape.
But there was a flaw:
The central core—the command unit—could not shrink smaller than a bee.
His original plan was this:
Disassemble.
Drift out through the smoke unnoticed.
Reform elsewhere.
Wait for Morel to "defeat" the decoy cocoon.
Then escape when Morel lowered the smoke.
It should've worked.
But Knov's ambush shattered everything.
Even now, Pouf could analyze Knov's aura:
Alertness: 4
Determination: 4
Fear: 2
He had flaws—but not enough to exploit, not here, not with Morel at his side.
And Morel? He and Knov had used this tactic before.
When they sensed a powerful aura approaching the third floor, they'd set the stage:
Knov laid a trap portal.
Morel blanketed the level in Deep Purple smoke.
It was an ambush—and Pouf had walked right into it.
He hadn't died—but his true ability was exposed.
He could split into billions—but each fragment was weaker.
Now that they knew… it was time to finish this.
As Pouf frantically tried to recall his scattered parts, forming a viable copy somewhere nearby—
Morel and Knov struck.
