Chapter 96 - Chapter 94: The Temple of Echoes

---

The air inside the Temple of Echoes was unlike anything they had ever felt before. It was thick with ancient power, as though time itself flowed differently here. The walls of the temple were made of smooth, obsidian-like stone, covered in strange markings that seemed to shift when you weren't looking directly at them. The ceiling, impossibly high, was lost in shadow, and the faint sound of whispers echoed in the vast space.

Chirag, Siya, Kael, and the others stepped carefully inside. Each step they took seemed to reverberate through the temple, as if the structure itself was alive, watching them, waiting.

"This place... it's older than anything I've ever seen," Kael muttered, his voice barely above a whisper. His eyes scanned the dark, the uncertainty in his voice clear.

"Stay focused," Chirag said. His voice was steady, though his heart raced. He could feel the weight of the temple's history pressing down on him. "We're here for answers."

Siya moved closer to him, her hand brushing against his. "We'll find them. Together."

They moved deeper into the temple, the whispers growing louder. At first, it was just soft murmurs, like a distant conversation, but soon the voices became clearer. The words were unintelligible, foreign, yet they seemed to touch something deep within Chirag's mind. He shook his head, trying to clear the fog that clouded his thoughts.

As they rounded a corner, the whispers stopped. The silence was suffocating.

Ahead of them, they saw it—a vast chamber, filled with swirling lights. In the center of the room stood an altar, dark and worn with age. Upon it rested a single object: a crystal, glowing softly with an ethereal light. It looked like a heart, but its edges were sharp, and the energy surrounding it pulsed with power.

Chirag felt drawn to it, his steps quickening. "That's it," he said, his voice urgent. "That's what we've been searching for."

Siya stepped forward, her hand gently stopping him. "Wait. Something's not right."

Chirag turned to her, but before he could ask what she meant, the temperature dropped, and the whispers returned—louder this time, more frantic. The walls of the chamber began to tremble, and the ground beneath their feet cracked.

A shadow emerged from the darkness.

It was a figure, tall and imposing, cloaked in shadows that seemed to move of their own accord. Its eyes glowed with an intense blue light, and its presence felt like a weight pressing down on them.

"You should not have come here," the figure spoke, its voice echoing through the chamber, a mix of anger and sorrow. "The secrets you seek are not for mortal minds."

Chirag's heart raced, but he stood his ground. "We have to know. The gods are planning something—something that will destroy everything. We need to stop them."

The figure tilted its head, as if considering his words. "You think you can stop the gods?" it asked, its tone both mocking and sorrowful. "You do not understand. You cannot stop what has already been set in motion."

Siya stepped forward, her voice firm. "We don't have to understand everything. We just have to fight. We will not stand by while they destroy everything we care about."

The figure's expression shifted. For a moment, there was a flicker of recognition in its eyes, a glimpse of something more than just shadow. It stepped closer, its presence overwhelming.

"You are stronger than I thought," it said. "Perhaps you do have a chance, after all."

The shadow figure moved aside, revealing the altar and the crystal. "This is the Heart of the Fallen," it said. "It holds the memories of all who have defied the gods. It is the key to understanding their true nature, their weaknesses. But be warned—using it comes at a cost."

Chirag stepped forward, reaching out for the crystal. "What cost?"

The figure's voice became grave. "The Heart does not give up its knowledge freely. To use it is to bear the burden of the lost souls who have been cast aside by the gods. You will see their pain, their suffering... their regrets. And you will carry it with you, forever."

Siya's hand found Chirag's, her grip tightening. "You don't have to do this, Chirag. We've already come so far. There's another way."

Chirag looked at her, his heart heavy with the weight of her words. But he knew there was no other choice. If they were to stand any chance against the gods, they needed this knowledge. He had to do this—for them, for the world, and for the ones they had lost.

"I have to," he said softly, his resolve firm. "This is the only way we can defeat them."

He reached out and touched the crystal.

The moment his fingers made contact, the world around them exploded into light. His body was flooded with sensations—memories that weren't his own, emotions too powerful to comprehend. He saw the gods as they were in their prime, their faces filled with arrogance and cruelty. He saw the lost souls of those who had defied them, their cries of anguish echoing in his mind. He saw the devastation they had caused, the lives they had destroyed, the worlds they had burned.

And through it all, he saw a way forward—a path that was shrouded in darkness but also filled with hope. The gods had made their plans, but they had left one thing unchecked: love. Love was the force they couldn't control. It was the one thing that could bring them down.

As the vision faded, Chirag collapsed to his knees, overwhelmed by the weight of the knowledge he had gained. The crystal in his hand began to lose its glow, its power drained, but the answers were clear in his mind.

"We have to find the Heart of the Gods," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "It's the only way."

Siya knelt beside him, her eyes filled with concern. "What did you see?"

Chirag looked up at her, his expression grim but determined. "I saw their weakness. We can defeat them, Siya. We can end their reign once and for all."
