Luc stared at Lyra confused and dumbfounded. Did Lyra just say he should pack his bags? What was she thinking? She was seriously putting him at risk by being here. If people saw him with a witch, it would definitely get him in trouble. And if they reported to the Magistrate, which they would, he, along with Lyra, would get killed because his crime was equivalent to betraying the King. And he didn't want his head rolling to somewhere his body wasn't.
He pinched the bridge of his nose. And did Lyra really think he would just pack up his bags just because she said so? Sure, he trusted her but it had a limit. He couldn't go anywhere with a witch even if that witch was Lyra, who had helped him. He didn't exactly know her well enough for travelling alone together. He didn't even know where they were gonna go to.
Lyra wasn't blind. She noticed the hesitation in his eyes and narrowed her eyes. Of course he wouldn't agree in a whim, he wasn't a fool. Lyra who was leaning against the wall, pushed herself away from it as she walked to the sofa and sat on its arm. She looked at Luc blankly and sighed.
" Relax, I'm not gonna kill you or something. I just discovered something about you and well....what you are. But I need to confirm this and for me to do so, you have to be there " She explained.
This piqued Luc's interest. So, he wasn't a human? That meant he wasn't an ordinary, like he thought. But somewhere at the back of his mind, he had prepared himself for this possibility. The possibility that someday, jed find out he wasn't human. But then, this led to the obvious question, if he wasn't human, what was he? Was that why he could see those shadows? But how did Lyra find out.
Luc looked at her with suspicious as he asked, " In that case, what am I? And what did you discover about me?" Lyra smirked when she heard the question. She didn't wanna tell but if she wanted him to come with her to confirm her theory, she needed to.
Therefore, " You have the attributes of a necromancer. You see death and grim reapers and souls of others". Luc frowned. Did she mean that those shadows which he saw often were people's souls?
As if Lyra had read his mind, she replied, " Yes, those shadows are indeed people's souls. There are different types of souls and levels of necromancy. The level of the necromancer determines what type of souls he is able to resurrect".
Luc's frown deepened? He was a necromancer? But how could he be one but didn't know about it? Plus necromancers have magic and except for his eyes, he had shown no signs of magic during his years of living. Was it possible to have magic without knowing? Furthermore, his reading showed nothing.
Lyra could sense his confusion, " Like I said, it's not valid just yet. I still need to confirm. This is why I need you to come with me to somewhere. I can't do this alone and need some help. But you need to come with me for us to be able to confirm if you are indeed a necromancer".
Luc frowned but eventually nodded. He went to his bedroom to pack some things, including some self defense gadgets just in case. He needed to find out if what Lyra said was true. Furthermore, if he was a necromancer, that would mean he was a practitioner of dark magic. And dark magic was forbidden in the lands. What would happen to him then?
He stopped thinking. The ifs and buts were enough. He needed to find out for real. He went out after packing a few things, mostly self defense gadgets. He couldn't take any chances. He walked out to see Lyra wearing a dark cloak which he hadn't noticed on his hanger when he came in.
When Lyra saw him, she ushered him, " You're ready. Let's go then". Luc nodded but immediately stopped. Lyra looked at him questioningly. He looked back at her and asked, " But how do we get there?" Luc didn't know where he meant by 'there'. But hopefully, he would find out soon.
Lyra chuckled as she raised her right hand and the her index finger. " How I came of course. We go through magic, teleportation magic". Then, with a wave of her hand a kind of magical circle appeared around her. It was green and shimmering.
She gestured for Luc to get in as she said, " The circle only works for people who are in it. Get in if you don't wanna be left behind ". Luc nodded as he got in. Lyra snapped her fingers and both of them, along with the circle, appeared. This erased all traces of her or Luc in the apartment.
....
In a house near the Elven Glades, a shimmering light along with a green circle appeared. Slowly, two people were formed from the light, a guy and a girl. It was Luc and Lyra.
Lyra led Luc towards the house and opened the door. It was eerily quiet, as if no one lived there. She narrowed her eyes. She called out, " Father?"
Luc wondered if Lyra was calling her father because of the term she used. He didn't know she had one. She had seemed to be a rogue and rebel when he first met her. But she had a Dad as it turned out.
But then, a voice sounded, " He's not here". Luc looked toward the voice as a burly guy made his way to them. Lyra called out, " Hunter. Where is he then? I told him that I would be -—"
Lyra stopped midway as she smelled something. She smelled blood, it wasn't faint either. She looked at Hunter questioningly as she said, " I smell blood....and witches? Dark witches".
Hunter raised a brow but his face returned back to a frown as he looked ar the floor, his eyes void of emotion. " He's gone. The dark witches took him".
