A moment later, under the guidance of the Little Fairy Doctor, Gu He arrived at a cliff with her in his arms.
"Master, the treasure in the cave is located halfway down the cliff," the Little Fairy Doctor said, pointing downward.
Hearing this, Gu He glanced down. The bottom of the cliff was shrouded in thick fog, and he could only vaguely make out a faint platform.
"Alright, let's head down," Gu He nodded. He held the Little Fairy Doctor tightly and slowly descended toward the bottom of the cliff.
The red wings behind him fluttered slightly as the two of them entered the mist. At the same time, Gu He spread out his soul power to investigate the surroundings within the fog.
A moment later, as they descended, Gu He's expression suddenly changed, and he became alert.
"Whoosh..."
The next instant, a faint sound of something cutting through the air echoed in the night sky, heading straight for them.
Sensing the danger, Gu He tightened his grip on the Little Fairy Doctor and swiftly dodged to the side.
"Master, what is that?" the Little Fairy Doctor asked, her voice tinged with fear as she stared at a streak of red light within the mist.
It was the thing that had just attacked them.
Through his soul power, Gu He immediately identified the assailant.
"A Rock Snake," he muttered, slightly surprised.
He recalled that in the original story, Xiao Yan and Xiao Yixian had also encountered this creature when they descended the cliff.
The Rock Snake, as its name suggested, was a snake-like monster that dwelled within rock walls. Its strength was around the first tier.
This creature could glide through the air like a falcon due to its flat, wing-like body. Moreover, its mutated stone attribute made its body as hard as rock, rendering ordinary weapons nearly useless against it.
"Whoosh!"
With another hiss, the Rock Snake flapped its narrow wings and lunged toward Gu He and the Little Fairy Doctor, its red eyes gleaming menacingly. Its massive jaws opened wide, revealing sharp fangs that glinted coldly.
"Seeking death!" Gu He's eyes flashed with coldness as he glared at the ferocious Rock Snake.
How dare a mere Tier 1 magical beast act so brazenly in front of him?
In the next moment, dou qi gathered in his palm, and a flaming palm strike blasted toward the Rock Snake.
"Thud!"
The yellow shadow struggled briefly before stiffening and plummeting into the bottomless valley below.
With a faint smile, Gu He, having dealt with the Rock Snake, gently landed outside the cave entrance with the Little Fairy Doctor still in his arms.
Standing before the cave, Gu He frowned at the dense gravel and strange trees blocking the entrance. He took a deep breath, raised his palms, and shouted, "Open!"
As his voice echoed, a powerful force surged from his palms, sweeping away the piles of gravel and strange trees like a gust of wind scattering fallen leaves. The debris tumbled into the dark mountain stream below.
With the obstruction cleared, Gu He turned his attention to the now-exposed cave entrance.
Under the faint moonlight, the cave left behind by the predecessors finally came into view.
The entrance was narrow, only wide enough for two or three people to pass through at once. Inside, the cave was pitch black, but a faint light emanated from within, giving it an air of mystery.
Around the entrance, there were numerous knife-like marks, though they had become blurred with age. If not for Gu He's sharp eyesight, they might have gone unnoticed.
"Let's go in," Gu He said, glancing at the dark cave. He stepped forward first, with the Little Fairy Doctor following closely behind.
As they walked through the quiet, dark passage, a faint chill lingered in the air. The only sounds were their soft footsteps echoing in the silence.
The oppressive darkness made the Little Fairy Doctor instinctively hug herself. She glanced up at Gu He, who was walking steadily ahead, and quickened her pace to stay close to him.
In such an environment, only her master could provide her with a sense of security.
After walking for a while, Gu He suddenly stopped.
"Master, what's wrong?" the Little Fairy Doctor asked, puzzled by his sudden halt.
"There's no path ahead," Gu He replied calmly, his gaze fixed on a solid stone gate blocking their way.
The Little Fairy Doctor frowned slightly, stepped forward, and examined the stone gate. "Behind this gate should be our destination. Since someone chose to create a cave here, it's unlikely he would leave us with no way forward."
Gu He stepped forward, placed his palm on the stone gate, and tested its thickness. "Step back a little. I'll open it," he said to the Little Fairy Doctor.
"Master, must you always resort to brute force?" the Little Fairy Doctor retorted, giving him a pointed look instead of stepping back.
"Look at the yellow light on the stone gate. It's clear that an earth-type mechanism has been set up here. With a bit of care, it shouldn't be difficult to open," she explained.
She then moved closer to the stone gate, her slender fingers gently tracing its surface.
Gu He raised an eyebrow in surprise. "I didn't expect you, a little girl, to know about mechanisms. Isn't that something wood or earth attribute cultivator specialize in?"
"I've read a few books on mechanism techniques. I'm not an expert, but I can manage," the Little Fairy Doctor replied with a playful smile, continuing her careful examination of the stone gate.
Gu He nodded, deciding not to disturb her further. He shifted his attention to the surrounding stone walls, using the faint light to inspect them.
On the walls, there were some faint notches. Though blurred with time, Gu He could still make out some figures carved into them. These were likely left behind by the cave's original owner.
"Found it!" the Little Fairy Doctor suddenly whispered excitedly, drawing Gu He's attention back to her.
She had crouched down beside the stone gate and was pressing a small bump beneath it with her fingers. A creaking sound echoed through the cave as the stone gate began to slowly open.
"Master, I did it," the Little Fairy Doctor said, a hint of pride flashing across her face as she looked at Gu He. Her expression seemed to say, 'Praise me, Master!'
Watching the stone gate gradually move, Gu He couldn't help but give her a thumbs-up. "Well done, my disciple. You're amazing!"
