Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Returning to the Misty Cloud Sect

The next day, after the Little Fairy Doctor packed her belongings, Gu He took her and left Qingshan Town directly.

At the town's exit, the Little Fairy Doctor glanced back at Qingshan Town, her eyes filled with a hint of reluctance. After all, she had lived there for many years, and the sudden departure was hard to accept.

"Master, let's go. If you miss it, you can always come back and visit later," Gu He said, noticing her reluctance. He gently patted her head and comforted her with a warm smile.

"Mm," the Little Fairy Doctor nodded slowly, then followed Gu He to the horned carriage waiting nearby.

The journey from Qingshan Town to the Misty Cloud Sect was long.

Even if Gu He, now a Dou Emperor, were to fly alone without any burdens, it would take him two days and two nights. However, with the Little Fairy Doctor accompanying him, flying non-stop for two days was out of the question.

Therefore, Gu He decided to take a flight convoy to the imperial capital.

The nearest city to them was a large metropolis located in the eastern province of the Jia Ma Empire. Its scale was even grander than that of Wu Tan City, ranking among the top cities in the empire.

Gu He's first destination was Black Rock City, as only such a large city had a civilian flight transport team established by the empire. From there, it would take about three days to reach the imperial capital by air.

After boarding the horned carriage, Gu He and the Little Fairy Doctor set off toward Black Rock City.

An old man drove the carriage, and despite Qingshan Town being the closest settlement to Black Rock City, the journey was still winding and took most of the afternoon.

As the carriage approached, Gu He stood up and let out a sigh of relief as he gazed at the massive city glowing faintly red under the setting sun.

The city walls of Black Rock City were entirely constructed from neatly cut black rocks. According to the old carriage driver, these walls had once withstood the combined bombardment of two Dou Kings without faltering, a testament to their formidable defense.

After paying the entry tax at the city gate, the carriage passed through the dim passage of the city wall. Soon, the view opened up, and the bustling noise of the city flooded their ears, momentarily overwhelming the Little Fairy Doctor.

"Master, have we arrived at Black Rock City?" she asked, her eyes wide with curiosity. This was her first time leaving Qingshan Town and visiting such a large city.

"Yes," Gu He nodded with a smile. "Let's get off the carriage."

The Little Fairy Doctor stepped down, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she took in the vibrant surroundings.

After making some inquiries, Gu He led the excited Little Fairy Doctor toward the air transport station located in the city center.

Navigating through unfamiliar streets and asking for directions along the way, they finally arrived at the air transport station, which stood on a spacious square.

The square was filled with more than a dozen large winged beasts known as Thick-Winged Birds. These creatures, though not magical beasts, were gentle and easily tamed by humans. Due to their rarity, only the empire had the resources to maintain such a flight transport team.

While not as fast as magical flying beasts, Thick-Winged Birds possessed remarkable endurance. After a full meal, they could fly steadily for four to five days.

Their carrying capacity was also impressive, as an adult Thick-Winged Bird could easily transport five to six times its own weight over long distances.

During times of war, these birds were requisitioned by the imperial army and only returned to civilian use after the conflict ended. Many of them had witnessed the horrors of battle.

As they entered the square, the cacophony of noise overwhelmed the Little Fairy Doctor, causing her ears to ring.

"Master, it's so noisy here," she frowned, clearly uncomfortable with the bustling environment.

"Bear with it for a little longer," Gu He reassured her with a smile.

Looking around, Gu He noticed long queues beside each Thick-Winged Bird. Uniformed attendants stood by the wooden ladders, collecting tickets from passengers.

Seeing this, Gu He couldn't help but smile wryly. As a renowned figure, he didn't need to queue or buy tickets. Even if he chose to ride one of these birds, the operators would go out of their way to accommodate him.

However, Gu He disliked drawing unnecessary attention. With a thought, he retrieved his second-rank alchemist robe and donned it. Then, he confidently led the Little Fairy Doctor past the crowd and onto one of the Thick-Winged Birds.

The manager of the flight team greeted them with utmost respect.

As they boarded the giant bird, the Little Fairy Doctor suddenly thought of her pet, Xiao Lan, a first-order Blue Eagle. Leaving Qingshan Town, she had been most reluctant to part with her beloved companion.

'Xiao Lan, wait for me. When I become stronger, I'll come back to Qingshan Town to take you with me,' she murmured to herself.

Shortly after they settled on the flying beast, the massive wings of the Thick-Winged Bird began to vibrate. Wisps of wind attribute energy gathered beneath it, lifting the creature into the sky.

With a loud cry, the bird soared into the air under the guidance of its trainer, swiftly heading toward the imperial capital.

Sitting by the window, Gu He watched the clouds drift past, a sense of nostalgia washing over him.

The word "airplane" suddenly popped into his mind. He never expected to experience the sensation of flying again in this foreign world.

"Master, how long will it take us to reach the imperial capital?" the Little Fairy Doctor asked, her eyes filled with anticipation.

"About three days," Gu He replied calmly.

"If you're bored, you should take this time to practice," he added with a smile.

With that, he retrieved the Red Snake Cauldron from his spatial storage.

The Little Fairy Doctor's eyes lit up with curiosity. "Master, are you going to refine pills?"

"You're about to break through as a Dou Practitioner. Since we have some time, I'll refine some Qi Gathering Pill for you," Gu He explained with a gentle smile.
