Chapter 20 - Driving cube

Bonny and Barry, the two brothers, stood on a platform made up of twenty cubes, composed of wooden planks and stone as their basic materials.

In total, there were 22 cubes: 11 wooden planks, 10 stones, and one driving cube.

Besides that, Bonny had a stone pickaxe, which added 7 attack power and allowed them to gather stone.

That meant when Calvin and Charlotte returned to the floating island, they'd be able to collect stone too.

There were also various random food items and a blueprint.

Calvin asked Charlotte to open the blueprint.

It turned out to be a chair blueprint, which required 10 wood, exactly the yield from one wooden cube.

After thinking for a moment, Calvin dismantled an extra wooden cube and got 10 wood.

He then used it to build a chair.

So, the block originally meant to serve as Bonny's seat was now an actual chair, placed in the center of the second row.

The current layout was 5 cubes per row and 9 rows in total, making 45 square meters.

The driving cube was placed in the center of the first row.

After some adjustments, first row was driving cube ,second row was chair.

Charlotte leaned in with a bright, excited expression.

"Calvin~ Calvin bro~"

Seeing the eager little girl, Calvin knew exactly what she was thinking.

Unfortunately for her, Calvin wanted to drive too.

Neither of them had a license, and both were curious about this new experience.

Especially since the driving cube allowed full 3D movement, up, down, left, right, forward, and backward!

Way more fun than a regular car, more like flying a plane!

"I'll go first. You get ten minutes after that."

Calvin flicked Charlotte's forehead as he spoke.

"Fine, but I better get my turn in ten minutes, no cheating."

Charlotte pouted.

"Then give me a shoulder massage."

Calvin patted his shoulder.

"Why should I?"

"You want to drive or not?" Calvin threatened.

Under Calvin's tyranny, Charlotte puffed her cheeks and began massaging his shoulders with her soft, boneless hands.

If it were the old Calvin, she would've hit him without hesitation.

But now, after his protection, she understood she couldn't survive without him. He was her friend… and her protector.

While massaging, she stared at the back of his head, thinking quietly.

It was still night, and Calvin planned to drive the platform all night for fun.

With this driving cube, he could go anywhere maybe even reach the ground if he kept descending.

Thinking this, he stepped on the three pedals below.

Based on his limited knowledge of cars, Calvin figured the rightmost pedal was the accelerator.

As expected, the platform started moving forward faster and faster, wind whooshing past his ears.

"Hold on tight, Charlotte," he warned.

Just as he was about to floor the accelerator, a message popped up:

[Platform fuel low. Wood is required as fuel.

10 wood = 1 day of driving.]

One wooden cube could power the platform for an entire day.

If used sparingly, it might last even longer.

Without hesitation, Calvin used 10 wood.

In an instant, the fuel transformed into light and entered the driving block.

He floored the accelerator again. Wind roared in his ears.

The platform sped forward at 60 km/h!

"Ahhh! Calvin, slow down!"

Charlotte panicked, her face pale.

This wasn't a car interior, they were on an open platform!

Any faster and they might really get flung off.

Luckily, the platform capped at 60 km/h, 1 km per minute.

Once the speed stabilized, they both steadied themselves.

"Phew… that was terrifying."

Charlotte looked excited but still patted her chest in fear.

"Thrilling, huh?" Calvin chuckled.

"Let me try! I want a turn too!" Charlotte whined while continuing the massage.

"Wait, it hasn't even been ten minutes. What's the rush?"

Calvin then tested the other pedals.

When he stepped on the second one, the platform slowed down causing Charlotte to lurch forward.

Blushing, she fell against the back of Calvin's head, hands gripping his shoulders, chest pressing into him.

"You idiot, what are you doing?!"

Charlotte stood up in embarrassment and smacked Calvin's head.

"So soft… and big…" Calvin muttered.

"Pervert! Moron!" Charlotte fumed, pounding on his back with her little fists.

Surprisingly, the force was perfect for a massage.

Calvin sat up, enjoying it.

"Ah, right there… a bit lower…" he grinned.

Seeing his shamelessness, Charlotte sighed in defeat.

"Ugh…"

Blushing, she stopped hitting him.

Calvin didn't mind. He was used to her being unpredictable.

Then he stepped on the leftmost pedal.

"If the steering wheel is for turning, and the right pedal is for forward…

Then this left one should be for descent."

Without hesitation, he floored it.

Immediately, a sense of weightlessness hit him.

Even more so for Charlotte, like free-falling from a building!

The platform plummeted downward at terrifying speed.

Calvin had pressed too hard!

"Calvin! Calvin!!"

Charlotte clung to his shoulders, screaming.

Calvin quickly stopped pressing and pulled the pedal up with his foot, slowing the fall.

He managed to stabilize the descent at around 20 km/h.

He really wanted to know. Could they reach the ground?

Probably not…

But he had to try.

Charlotte noticed his intention.

"Calvin, you want to keep going down?"

"Yeah, I want to see if we can make it."

"Then let me take over. It's been ten minutes already."

Charlotte nudged his head playfully.

"Okay, your turn. Be careful, don't press too hard or I might fall."

"Mhm!"

They switched places.

Calvin, just to be safe, held onto her delicate shoulders.

He couldn't risk falling, dying like that would be so unfair.

He was still a virgin. After all, no way he was dying now!

Seeing his cautious expression, Charlotte smiled.

"Don't worry, Calvin. I'll be careful."

Charlotte quickly took her turn to operate it for a while.

…

The cube gradually descended, reaching a speed of 40 kilometers per hour.

"At this speed, who knows how long it'll take to reach the ground."

It was already around 2 or 3 a.m.

Calvin yawned, feeling a bit sleepy.

"Calvin, do you think… maybe there's no such thing as a ground in this world…"

Charlotte suddenly said seriously.

"You mean…"
