Chapter 22 - Share a towel

Hearing Charlotte's sweet, innocent, and childlike words, Rebecca was stunned.

A hint of hesitation flashed across her face.

"If you're not going to kill me, then why haven't you left?"

Because breaking the wooden boards with the wooden axe and red iron sword takes time.

Charlotte's move clearly helped save some of that time…

"You should come out and apologize to us, right? Your boyfriend tried to attack us. If you show some sincerity, maybe we'll let you go. But hiding in there? Sooner or later, we'll get you," Calvin said scornfully.

Rebecca hesitated after hearing that.

She was confident in her figure though not as good as Charlotte's, it was still better than most girls.

Add her tall height and fairly attractive face…

"Could it be that this murderer spared me because he's interested in me?" she thought anxiously.

Soon, she gritted her teeth and moved the cube aside.

The cube still belonged to Rebecca at that moment,

so she could move it, but Calvin and Charlotte couldn't.

That's why they chose to break the cube to force her out.

"B-Bro, please don't kill me… I know I was wrong. I'm willing to be your woman,"

Rebecca said, kneeling in front of Calvin after opening the wooden board.

She sneaked a glance at him and thought he looked decent, not too bad.

But what greeted her were punches and kicks, and even slashes from the red iron sword.

"W-Why… you murderers…"

"You were the ones who tried to attack first. We didn't want this either,

but to avoid retaliation, we had no choice,"

Charlotte said softly, a determined look in her eyes.

Soon, Calvin ended Rebecca's life with a single sword strike and threw her body down.

Now, only one team remained on the platform, Calvin and Charlotte.

He gained ownership of the cubes.

He slightly modified the house, still 4×4, with the floor extended to 4×6, connected at the back.

Though it didn't look great, at least they had a place of their own now.

Calvin and Charlotte were starting to reap the rewards.

Now they had a total of 109 cubes!

Of those, 47 belonged to them individually,

and 62 were shared between the two.

They had used around 54 cubes to build the 4×4×4 house!

Keep in mind, when they landed on the sky island yesterday, they only had 25 cubes…

After sorting through Ray and Rebecca's supplies,

they found some food and blueprints, mostly just cubes and basic materials.

As expected, food was scarce.

Just two cans of meat and three packs of biscuits.

After storing everything,

they entered the 4×4×4 house. It was empty, but there was a chest inside.

When Calvin opened it, it creaked loudly.

He tossed in the miscellaneous items,

then pulled out the blueprint for a firestone.

[Firestone: A stone that can start a fire.]

Build Requirements: Stone (3/3), Graphite (0/1), Quartz (0/1)

"Except for the stone, I can't find any graphite or quartz…"

The campfire, however, was simple:

Five stones and ten pieces of wood.

Coincidentally, that rotten couple had exactly that.

Calvin built the campfire and placed it outside the house.

Interestingly, it started burning immediately after being built.

That was nice, especially since it was windy and cold at night in the sky.

This was also why Charlotte snuggled close to him every night, not just because it was comfortable,

but because it was warm.

At that moment, Charlotte suddenly shouted,

"Calvin, there's a cloud! I'll steer us over. Get ready to fish!"

"Got it."

Charlotte piloted toward the target,

while Calvin got the fishing rod ready and cast it as the cloud approached.

[Material Cloud]

[Gained: Stone ×10]

[Gained: Fabric ×5]

After fishing, they gained two sets of materials.

Calvin vaguely remembered he had a towel blueprint?

He thought he got towel materials after killing Bonny yesterday.

Using those materials, he crafted a towel.

A brand new white towel appeared in Calvin's hand.

"A towel… now I can wipe off the dirt on me…

But it looks like there's only one."

Calvin said slowly, glancing at Charlotte, who was staring at him speechlessly.

"What are you doing, you dumb fish?"

"It's a towel. There's only one."

"So?"

"There's no water for bathing, so we'll have to share it to wipe sweat and stuff."

"And then?"

Charlotte didn't understand where Calvin was going with this.

"So we'll have to share the towel,"

Calvin said calmly.

Charlotte froze in place.

The towel was definitely useful.

It could help them stay as clean as possible by wiping off sweat.

But…

Only one towel…

Wouldn't that mean Calvin would use it first, then pass it to her?

Ugh…

So embarrassing…

Charlotte blushed deeply.

She didn't actually mind too much, they had hugged and cuddled plenty…

Sharing a towel wasn't a big deal logically.

But still…

It just felt off…

Sigh, whatever. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

"One towel it is, then…"

Charlotte said with a red face,

but then suddenly thought of something.

"Wait a second, Calvin, don't you have a replication talent?

Why not just Replication another towel?"

"Are you stupid?"

"??"

Seeing Calvin finally insult her again,

Charlotte lunged forward, scratching him with her little claws.

"You dumb! How dare you call me that!"

Calvin sighed and pulled out a new iron sword.

"I can only use the replication talent once a day.

Do you know what that means?"

"It means… it should be used on something more important…"

"Exactly. Like this red iron sword, it increases your attack by 25 points."

Charlotte took the sword and blushed, looking at Calvin.

"F-Fine… Then tonight, I'll use the towel first.

Let me clean up before you use it, okay?"

Calvin thought for a moment and didn't argue.

Even though Charlotte had a bit of body odor, his was worse.

Besides, she was a girl.It was fine to let her go first.

"Sure. We'll switch tomorrow,

and once we get a second towel or enough water, we'll sort it out."

Calvin took a sip of water and spoke after thinking for a moment.

Right now, the two of them only had one 1000ml bottle.

The smaller 500ml bottles were still sealed. They were saving those and only drank from the big one.

They had originally duplicated a second large bottle.

But since they sold that one…

Now they had to drink directly from the same bottle.

Sigh, how poor they were.

Charlotte watched Calvin drink and felt thirsty too. Without hesitation, she waited for him to finish and then took the bottle to drink from it herself.

Watching her drink from the same bottle so naturally, even enjoying it, Calvin felt a little strange.

Before, when Charlotte had to drink from the same bottle, she would pout with a disgusted face, as if he were dirty.

But now?

She was completely used to it…

"What are you looking at?"

Charlotte asked, satisfied after finishing her drink.

They were only allowed one liter of water per day to conserve resources,

so every sip counted, and Charlotte truly appreciated it.

"Nothing," Calvin shook his head, keeping quiet.

He had plenty of witty remarks, but Charlotte's temper didn't leave much room for jokes.

Charlotte continued piloting the cube, swimming through the sky in search of clouds and floating islands.

Calvin, meanwhile, was getting ready to try cooking some raw meat over the campfire.

He took out the raw blue wolf meat.

Luckily, it hadn't spoiled, maybe it hadn't been long enough, or maybe it just didn't rot naturally.

He placed the meat over the fire again.

After a while, a delicious aroma began to fill the air.

Charlotte, still driving, twitched her cute little nose, practically drooling.

She hadn't smelled something so good since the last barbecue feast and those bento meats.

She slammed on the brakes and stood up from her seat,

giving Calvin a hopeful look, eyes fixed on the sizzling blue wolf meat.

"What do you want?"

Calvin asked, stuffing a cooked piece of meat into his mouth under her hungry gaze.

"Mmm~ Delicious!"

"What about mine?"

Charlotte asked bluntly.

"It's in my mouth. Want to eat it?"

Calvin opened his mouth.

"Ugh! I meant my steak. Did you grill mine too?"

Charlotte quickly replied, grossed out.

Seeing Calvin act so cheeky, she couldn't help but imagine herself leaning in to share food mouth-to-mouth and felt a bit nauseous.

"Do it yourself if you want to eat,"

Calvin said, handing her two pieces of the meat.

Charlotte was a true meat lover. No wonder she once ate 80 chicken nuggets on Crazy Thursday.

So Calvin gave her two pieces.

"Stingy,"

Charlotte muttered,

though she knew he was rationing food for their survival.

——

After a full day,

by piloting the cube, they finally found enough clouds and went fishing.

They gained some supplies and even found a blueprint for an iron hoe.

Without hesitation, they used ten refined iron to craft one.

As for the iron? It came from leftover materials and trades on the marketplace.

Now, their tools and weapons included:

two red iron swords, one healing glove, two daggers, a wooden axe, a stone pickaxe, an iron hoe, and a flint lighter…

Night fell, and the temperature dropped quickly.

For some reason, Calvin felt it was getting colder each night.

"Sigh, so annoying. We fished from thirty clouds and still haven't seen a single floating island…"

Charlotte grumbled.

"What's the rush? I just checked the chat channel. Not everyone finds floating islands. And even if they're rich in resources, they're dangerous too,"

Calvin said as he added all ten attribute points from today to his attack stat.

But when he pushed his attack to 30,

he got a warning. He couldn't increase it further without upgrading other stats.

"So, 30 is the cap for unarmed attack, huh?"

Calvin muttered.

He felt his body swell with muscle, but something felt off.

It was an odd imbalance,

a sense of being both strong and fragile at the same time.

"Yeah, I guess my attack power doesn't match my speed or defense. I could probably punch myself to death…"

Calvin said slowly.

Charlotte, watching from the side, was full of envy.

She wanted to raise her attack too, but Calvin kept taking all the kills.

Suddenly she asked,

"Hey Calvin, how many punches would it take to kill yourself now?"

"My HP is 100, defense is 12, and each punch does 18 damage… probably five or six punches."

Calvin replied after thinking.

"Haha! So you're that easy to kill yourself? Are you strong or just a glass cannon?"

Charlotte burst out laughing, clutching her stomach.

Her comment sparked a realization in Calvin.

Right…

That imbalance he was feeling made perfect sense now.

He quickly put his remaining two points into defense,

raising it to 14.

Then, glaring at the laughing Charlotte,

he said with a smirk,

"Having fun, huh, little Charlotte?"

"Haha, you overgrown weakling!"

Charlotte teased, sticking her tongue out.

"You must be itching for trouble."

Calvin lunged forward and grabbed her.

Charlotte trembled slightly.

"What are you doing? I'm warning you, don't try anything!"

She looked a little scared.

The next moment,

Calvin started tickling her under the arms.

"Ahhahaha! What are you doing, you stupid jerk. Stop!"

After some roughhousing,

the two of them sat on the edge of the platform,

gazing at the twinkling stars and the round moon above.

"Hey Calvin, don't you think it's gross?"

Charlotte tilted her head.

"Gross? What do you mean?"

"When you tickled me… I haven't showered in days…"

She looked at him shyly.

"What's there to mind? You sneak onto my stomach to sleep every night. Did I ever complain?"

"How did you know?"

"I'm not dumb. And when I fought that wild man, I reeked of sweat and blood. You didn't mind then either."

Calvin casually put his arm around her shoulder.

"But you always say I stink… that I'm gross…"

"I was joking. You're so cute, of course you're a sweet and soft little girl."

Calvin gently touched her forehead, looking serious.

Charlotte stared into his bright eyes, dazed for a moment.

Especially at the words "sweet and soft little girl."

Thinking about how they'd run into two bad player teams recently.

If it hadn't been Calvin, if she'd been matched with someone else, she might've already…

"Thank you, Calvin..."

Charlotte responded with a serious expression.

"Actually, I've been lying to you just now. You really are filthy and smell terrible. I can't stand you."

Calvin looked at Charlotte with a deliberately disgusted face, then pretended to gag.

Charlotte: ...
