Chapter 27: The Mall PT 2
Some of the aurora mutants chasing after the girl noticed her and Samuel. They roared in anger at the loss of their prey. "I think we should run," Samuel said as he dropped the girl onto her feet. "Lead the way miss" Samuel added "Hmm ok?" the girl replied with confusion clear on her face. Sai's drones returned to Samuels clothes. Leaving only one beside him.
The Aurora mutants began running towards them. The girl didn't have time to think so she just ran. Samuel followed right behind her. He activated his enhanced perception not wanting to trip on anything and embarrass himself. The girl was fast. Much faster than Samuel. Before he released it the distance between them was increasing.
She would dodge and jump over any Aurora mutants that were in their path. It was hard enough trying to keep up with her but the addition of the monsters made it much harder. Samuel had nearly been caught by some Aurora mutants a few times. The girl had turned around to see Samuel struggling so many times. But she did not even think of helping him out. Soon the girl reached the button most fool. This floor had no source of light. Thus it was completely dark.
Yet she was able to move around with no difficulties. She ran towards a wall with a large metal door. She knocked on the door in a particular order. The metal door soon lifted upwards and the girl entered it. Behind the door was a very dimly lit hallway with 2 people standing near a control switch. "Close it" she ordered. The people by the door's control switch nodded and proceeded to close the door. She walked further down the hallway.
But before she got very far she heard the shocked gasps of the people behind her. She turned around only to see Samuel who had slid through the door at the last second. "I made it," Samuel said as the door fully closed behind him. The 2 people by the control switch didn't know what to say. Luckily for them, the girl came back.
Samuel was busy celebrating in his mind about how cool his entrance had been. The darkness of this floor was of no problem to him. He clearly sensed the girl and the people behind the door. When the door was about to close he ran at full speed and threw his bags first. Then slid in at the last second. He had his back against the floor when suddenly the girl appeared above him.
The lights in the hallway got brighter once the door was closed. The girl pointed her hand towards Samuel and said coldly "Who are you? Where did you come from?" Samuel looked at him and smiled "I'm Samuel nice to meet you. I was just walking by when I saw you needed some help. Who would have thought you were so fast I could barely keep up with you." Samuel said.
The girl's expression darkened "Swoosh!" a mass of black and purple energy appeared on her hand. "I won't ask again this time your answer better be satisfactory," The girl said. Samuel instantly raised his arms showing that he didn't want to fight. "Yeah I'm Samuel, I came from a world called Earth. This is my first time in Nexus. So please don't melt my face with…whatever that is" Samuel said with some fear.
"You're from Earth? You aren't from Nexus?" the girl asked again. "Yes, I'm not from Nexus. I come from a planet in another universe outside of Nexus." Samuel responded fast. Fearing what the girl might try to do to him.
Whatever that energy was his senses told him that it was dangerous. He had sensed it since he first walked into this apocalypse zone. Especially on the Aurora mutants. Those monsters were filled with it. The girl in front of him also had this same black energy coursing through her body. It gave Samuel a dangerous vibe. The girl looked at him intensely for a few seconds. Then the energy surrounding her hand vanished as she said "Didn't think I'd meet one of you saviors so soon".
She turned around and walked deeper into the hallway. Samuel was confused that she just let him go like that. "Are you coming or not?" the girl said as she kept walking. Samuel stood up, picked up his bags and followed her. Samuel was curious about her so he used Inspection on her.
[Inspection Successful:
Race: Human
Legend: Mortal stage 4
Description: a weak race known for its great intelligence and adaptability. This particular human has adapted to the energy of Aurora]
Samuel expected her to have a higher legend than him but he was surprised by the additional information he read. 'It seems like that black energy she uses is called Aurora. It kind of makes sense when you think about those monsters being called Aurora mutants' Samuel thought to himself.
"So are you not going to tell me who you are?" Samuel asked. The girl kept walking and after a few seconds, she spoke. "I'm Susan" Samuel smiled at her response "Nice to meet you, Susan. So where are you leading me?" Samuel asked as he approached the girl and began walking next to her. Susan glanced at him slightly before saying "You're going to meet our leader. He'll explain everything to you."
They soon walked through another door with guards. Samuel then found himself in what appeared to be to be a large store. It had two floors. The first floor was filled with tents and makeshift shelters. As soon as they arrived everyone on the first floor stared at Samuel. The looks they gave him were not one of hostility. It was more of frustration. "Another mouth to feed, what a mess." Said a bystander. "Susan who's the new guy?" asked a lady.
"He is one of the saviours" Susan answered. Everyone then showed a look of understanding. "So they finally started appearing," said a man to his friends "Why do they keep coming?" a woman said while holding a child "Can't they just stop coming" said an elderly man "This one is weaker than the previous ones" the people began whispering amongst themselves. Samuel didn't know why but it was clear his presence was not welcomed by these people.
Susan went up a set of escalators. They weren't working so they were used like normal stairs. Once they reached the second floor the atmosphere changed and the number of people there was smaller. But each person on this floor had the aura of a warrior. Unlike the ones on the first floor, they didn't stare at Samuel with frustration but rather with curiosity.
Although their tents were just as shabby as the ones on the first floor. The enthusiasm with which the people here went about their business. Made the second floor seem much more pleasant. Susan led him to the largest tent. Once they reached its entrance she announced their arrival "Boss I've brought a savior. Can I come in?" Susan said when they reached the tent entrance. 'There she goes again calling me a saviour again. What exactly does that title mean' Samuel thought to himself.
"Enter" a deep and masculine voice reached their ears. Susan led Samuel inside the tent. Samuel followed and found himself looking at the simple but clean interior of the tent. A simple bed on one side of the tent, with a desk and chair on another side. Seated on the chair was a tall man with slightly long green hair.
He looked like he was In his thirties and could be called a handsome man. The man wore a shirt with a coat over it. The man raised his head and looked at Samuel. His eyes were a beautiful grey. Next to the green-haired man stood a black-haired man with brown skin and tattoos on his arms. "What's your name boy?" the green-haired man asked. "Samuel sir, it's a pleasure to meet you," Samuel said.
The man chuckled lightly and said "At least you are polite. I'll make the explanation as simple as I can. You can call me Levi. I'm the leader of the survivors in this mall." the green-haired man now known as Levi said. "First things first. Welcome to our dying world. It's called Earth but it doesn't matter much does it."
Samuel was happy with the confirmation that this was another Earth. Although the mission details said he was on a parallel Earth. Hearing a resident say it made it feel more real. "You are not the first outsider to come to our world. There have been many before you." Levi said.
"Yeah, I kind of figured that out with how you guys keep referring to me as some savior. You guys also seem very used to people like me" Samuel said. The man smiled and said, "At least you aren't slow." Samuel could only scratch the back of his head as he said "So since I'm not the first outsider to come here. What happened to the others? I'd like to believe they completed whatever mission they were given. But I have a feeling your answer won't be so positive."
Levi smirked as he replied "You're right my answer won't be pleasant. Every person that has been sent to this world is given a mission to save this world. Thus why we call you guys saviors. Unfortunately, all 4 times that saviors have come before this. They have all died" Hearing this made Samuel gulp his saliva.
"And we have all died alongside them. When I say that saviors have come 4 times before. I mean that 4 groups of saviors have come before. Each group had different numbers of people with various power levels. But each time they failed to stop the corruption and our world perished. Each time the world ends we all die along with the saviours.
Only to be revived whenever a new group of Saviours arrives. So far we have died 4 times making this our 5th apocalypse we are living through. And I must say out of all the saviours that have come before. I've never seen one as weak as you. Even if we're only on day 2 since the reset." Hearing Levi's words made a shiver go up Samuel's spine. 'What the hell have I gotten myself into'
