I figured Jim and Asher were in on it together, setting her up to hand her over to Asher.
I rubbed my chin and said, "Asher's such a jerk! I've heard he's always causing trouble at school."
"You regret helping me? It's okay. I know Asher's not someone to mess with. I'll talk to him and make sure he leaves you alone. I'm sorry for dragging you into this!"
She thought I was scared of Asher.
Little did she know, I wasn't afraid of him at all.
I grinned and said, "I don't care about trash like Asher. If he stays out of my way, great. But if he doesn't, I'll show him what I'm made of."
Seeing my smile, her innocent face turned red, and there was a hint of shyness in her eyes. She hesitated. "Thanks for today. How can I thank you?"
I smiled and said, "It's what I should do. How could I just stand by and watch those jerks mess with a beauty like you? By the way, I don't even know your name yet."
She looked at me with a smile and said, "I'm Lenora Coleman!"
