Chapter 27 - Chapter 022: You little brat, you almost deafened me

"Who gave this to you?" Yi Luowa waved the earpiece in her hand and asked in lip language.

Uncle Li chuckled awkwardly, "That's something I can't say."

Yi Luowa rolled her eyes at him and slammed the earpiece hard against the table.

The deafening noise made the person sitting on the bed furrow his brows deeply. Tong Airui quickly took off the earpiece, "You little brat, nearly made me deaf."

"Hehe..." Mi Chenxuan watched him with a face full of schadenfreude.

"Don't sit around, go help your brother take off his makeup. I guess that brat is about to storm in at any moment."

"My brother has his own makeup artist, doesn't need me." Mi Chenxuan lounged with his legs crossed, laughing, "Fourth brother, tell me, how do you think she'll thank you for helping her with such a big favor?"

Tong Airui let out a low laugh, "Expect thanks from her? The sun would have to rise in the west."

"Then just wait for the sun to rise in the west!" Mi Chenxuan sat up straight, looking seriously at Tong Airui, "Fourth brother, you got my brother to pretend to be my dad. If my dad finds out, not only are you done for, my brother will be doomed along with you!"

"I've already had my sister call Uncle. None of us are going to die!" Tong Airui said, glancing at the doorway. Considering Yi Luowa's personality, she'd most definitely charge in immediately to demand why he'd helped her. However, Fourth Master Tong waited half an hour, and Yi Luowa was nowhere to be seen.

Tong Airui started to feel restless and called Yuan Hang, who was standing by the door, into the room. "That brat, did she faint again?"

"No, she's been waiting outside the ICU for the results of the expert consultation."

As soon as Yuan Hang finished speaking, Mi Chenxuan bolted out of the room.

Tong Airui glanced at Mi Chenxuan's retreating figure, then lazily lay back down on the bed, "If she comes over, just say I'm not receiving visitors."

"Not receiving visitors or not receiving clients?" Mi Chenshuo teased, emerging from the inner room with a smile.

"You need a good beating!" Tong Airui glared at him.

"I've got another scene to shoot this afternoon. I'll be back tonight to keep you company." Mi Chenshuo chuckled and left the hospital room with the makeup artist.

Yuan Hang whispered, "Fourth Master, the person who went into Yi Weiyang's room last night has been found."

"Found a corpse, I bet!" Tong Airui closed his eyes gloomily.

"Yep, found but as good as not found—there's no clue at all, so I didn't rush to report to you."

"As expected."

"Did those documents give you any leads after you looked through them?"

Tong Airui shook his head, "No, couldn't identify any questionable points from all eighteen traffic accidents, big and small. But something still feels off."

"You're still a patient right now. Rest first; we'll take our time investigating. No need to rush." Yuan Hang tucked the blanket around Tong Airui and left the room.

"Tell Eighth Master to come back!" Tong Airui had planned to give his brain a break, but the thought of that silly Xuan running off—likely to find Yi Luowa—left him feeling inexplicably uneasy.

Yuan Hang acknowledged his order, glancing toward the ICU. He saw Mai Zekai and several experts walking out and quickly went over.

Yi Luowa raised her eyes to look at the experts, eager to hear the results of the consultation. Uncle Li promptly spoke on her behalf, "Doctor, how is Second Master's condition?"

An elderly doctor with silver hair responded, "The main cause of the patient's coma is bleeding near the brainstem, which is pressing on the nerves. After two days of medication, the blood clot hasn't decreased—it's actually slowly expanding. We preliminarily judge that there's rupture in the intracranial capillaries."

Uncle Li realized Second Master's condition was tricky, and hurriedly asked, "We don't understand this very well. Can surgery be done?"

The elder shook his head, "The blood clot is right next to the arterial vessels. The surgery isn't impossible, but it's extremely risky. Moreover, we old folks with poor eyesight aren't suited to perform such a delicate operation."

"Even if we weren't old with poor eyesight, such a precise operation couldn't be done alone." Another blonde-haired, blue-eyed doctor said, in halting Chinese.

Tong Yao's eyes filled with hope as she looked at Mai Zekai. Mai Zekai glanced at her and slowly spoke, "I'll do the surgery."

"Zekai!" The elder doctor looked at Mai Zekai disapprovingly.

Mai Zekai curved his lips slightly, "Please rest assured, teacher. Not long ago, I performed a similar operation."

"Why take this risk?"

"I'm a doctor. Even if there's only a ten percent chance, I want to try. Ultimately, it's up to the patient's family to decide, though." Mai Zekai said, looking deeply at Yi Luowa and waiting for her response.

Yi Luowa quickly searched her pockets for paper and pen, writing swiftly: If no surgery is done, what will happen to my second uncle?

"Your voice still hasn't recovered?" Mai Zekai frowned.

Yi Luowa nodded.

"I've already prescribed medicine for you; it's on the bedstand. Why haven't you taken it?" Clearly, Mai Zekai was angry.

Yi Luowa wrote: Don't worry about me for now. Tell me about my second uncle.

"If no surgery is performed, the best outcome would be him becoming a vegetable. But even becoming a vegetable depends on his capillaries stopping the bleeding quickly. If the surgery fails, he won't even leave the operating table. But if it succeeds, he can return to his normal state."

Yi Luowa narrowed her eyes, hesitating for a moment before writing again: Uncle Li, what's your opinion?

"I'll follow your lead." Uncle Li nodded at Yi Luowa.

Yi Luowa wrote on the paper: Operate! I trust Dr. Mai!

"I'll go prepare now; surgery starts at one this afternoon. You need to take your medicine right away!" Mai Zekai said and headed back to the conference room with the other experts.

"How strange! Slow Master isn't acting slow at all today!" Mi Chenxuan muttered under his breath, pushing Yi Luowa's wheelchair toward her room.

Yi Luowa turned back to glance at him.

Yuan Hang mouthed a few words, then followed up, "Eighth Master, Fourth Master told you to come back."

Mi Chenxuan pursed his lips, "Tell my Fourth Brother I'm out having fun. Won't be back until tonight."

Yi Luowa gave Mi Chenxuan a thumbs-up, waving it mischievously in front of his face.

"Troublemaker!" Mi Chenxuan laughed, pushing her into the room.

Once inside the room, Mi Chenxuan picked up the medicine bottle on the bedside table, took a look, then unscrewed the cap and poured a few pills out. "Take your medicine. You can't talk, and it's making me feel stifled."

Yi Luowa pointed to her lips and said using lip language, "Look at me. You can tell what I'm saying just by looking."

Mi Chenxuan leaned in to look, "You have blisters on your lips!"

Yi Luowa pursed her lips—this guy didn't understand lip language at all!

Yi Luowa took the medicine, tilted her head and swallowed. Mi Chenxuan hurriedly handed her a cup of water, and she drank two sips.

"Poor little girl. At least you're well-behaved when taking medicine." As soon as Mi Chenxuan finished speaking, footsteps echoed from the hallway. He instinctively glanced outside and quickly crouched down in front of Yi Luowa.

Yi Luowa looked at him suspiciously, noticing he seemed somewhat scared. She turned her head toward the door, where a man and woman passed by in a flash.

Yi Luowa rapidly wrote on paper: Who are they? Such impressive stature! You seem really afraid of them? (mischievous smile)
