Chapter 3 - Thomas Shelby(2)

'The Capital!'

The main city where the Royal Family lives and the most prosperous city in the Arcanthus Empire.

"The princess is having her 10th birthday there and all influential people are invited and since that includes us, we are going. Besides, rejecting this invitation would give me too much trouble from the Emperor."

He continued, "Normally I wouldn't care about the trouble since you guys are still young and I have a multitude of reasons to reject it if I wanted to. Also you guys are too young to make your social debut into society."

'Seems like you are giving us reason not to go instead.' Tommy and Arthur said in their mind.

"However, you guys always wanted to go outside and more importantly have incredibly high functionality as 5 years old that doesn't make you seem as young as you are and so for that reason, I believe you guys will do well."

"Also, you better thank me. I hope you guys know how much trouble your mother gave me for wanting to let you guys go. Took 5 years off my life." Hunter added.

The boys could tell their father seemed to go through a lot.

Gloria smiled and clapped her hands, "It's okay though cause we are coming with you guys and will watch over you guys like hawks. Nobody will hurt or mock my babies without a fireball to their face."

Hunter shook his head, "I don't want to go but someone needs to control your mother."

They continued their conversation and everyone retreated to their own thing.

The next day.

The boys arrived at the training ground where their father was waiting for them.

Tommy and Arthur wore white training shirts and black shorts. Tommy grabbed a staff and Arthur picked a sword.

Hunter raised his eyebrow and Tommy's pick. "A staff? Is that your weapon?"

"Dad, there is something you need to know about me—."

"You're g—."

"I'm a Jack of all Trades and Master of all. There is no weapon that will be left unused, haha!" Tommy's nose seemed to grow a little in Arthur and Hunter's eyes.

"I just quite like the staff." Tommy added.

"Well, you do you. Today's training unfortunately will not need a weapon. You guys will be training your body and I will use my mana to accelerate your growth."

"20 laps around the training ground."

"Twent—?!" Arthur covered his brother's mouth before his father made them do more.

Hunter smiled and gestured to them to do the laps. With reluctance Tommy and Arthur started running.

Hunter watched as his children were dying and chuckled. They were just 5 years old but he couldn't help but have high expectations for them.

Tommy was unique. He is a bit of a troublemaker but takes things seriously when he needs to. His humor is increasingly contagious to those around him. However, when I look into his eyes, I feel like there is something more. A past or perhaps an emotion that a 5 years old shouldn't have.

His talent is also unbelievable. Maybe even surpasses mine. I'm deeply curious as to what elements he will have. He has more similarities with his mother. They are both kind and sweet, I'm just worried that just like his mother, he will even destroy anyone to protect what he wants. He has similar ideologies to me and follows the strength of a weapon master. In short, Tommy is the best of Gloria and me.

Arthur. Arthur has more similarities to me compared to his mother. If Tommy was both of us then Arthur is just me. His soldier-like attitude reminds me of when I was younger. He focuses his training on a sword instead of all weapons. His talent is the same as Tommy's. They are both incredible.

He's a bit quiet at times and also feels like he has a past I'm unaware of. He does almost anything I say without complaint compared to Tommy who complains every second. He definitely has humor. More aimed at Tommy but humor nonetheless.

These two boys. They are so small and young but I can't help but feel so proud and eager to know who they will become. So now, I have to ensure these kids can grow up with everything so they can become the best versions of themselves.

His thoughts were interrupted by a sudden scream.

"I'm dying!"

Tommy was basically dragging himself and Arthur was pushing him to help him stay up even though he himself was also dying.

Hunter let out a heartfelt laugh and looked up at the sky.

I love my family.

————————————-

Two weeks passed.

The boys were trained by their father everyday for 3 hours and then they bathed in a medicinal herb bath that strengthened their bodies.

They fought against their father, training their reaction time, pain resistance, battle sense, and techniques. Hunter had the boys only do the basics. He always said, "Basics is the foundation of all skills, without the basics, you don't have strength behind it."

Arthur fought with his swords and refined his techniques while Tommy occasionally focused on all weapons but mainly a staff.

Hunter taught the twins close quarters combat. He mentioned what would happen if you don't have a weapon in a fight,

"You'll lose. A weapon is just a tool. Just like any other tool, its effectiveness depends on its user. Your body itself must be a weapon, every single part."

They ran everyday and by the end of the first week, they ran 40 laps and continued that every day after that. They doubled the body training and doubled the amount of work they did.

Every day at night the boys did their best to sense mana and create a mana core. They purposely slowed their progress until they were able to obtain the item they needed to hide their mana core until the legal age.

They had breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday with their parents and spent time with them.

In private, Tommy and Arthur review the past and write notes of significant events they remembered and items no matter how insignificant.

They toured the city around with their parents like they do every Sunday. Hunter and Gloria talked to the citizens and asked them what problems they are having. They take those problems and together with the advisor, they try to find solutions.

Tommy and Arthur felt proud of their parents while watching this and did the same. The citizens felt they were cute and told them small problems they could fix such as littering, hunger, population, and others.

They did this the whole day and got around to help as many people as they could. Anybody they missed, they would get to them the next week.

The boys were also getting tutored in etiquette. Their mother always told them to remain professional and not to let anyone catch any weakness.

Gloria put her hands on her children's head and ruffled their hair, "The social scene is a ruthless world that will tear you apart if you show any weakness. Words and status hold more power than strength."

"However," Gloria put on a warm smile and wrapped her arm around them, "I will do my best to protect you."

On top of the multitude of things they have been doing, they have also gotten lessons from teachers to teach Tommy and Arthur subjects such as English, Math, History and Magic Theory.

On top of some other things, the past two weeks went by in a flash.
