The moment the Syndicate Interdictor-class vessel forced them out of hyperspace, Raizen knew they were in trouble. The massive warship loomed in the distance, its silhouette outlined by the eerie glow of its energy cores. Their ship's systems flickered, struggling to recover from the sudden disruption.
Liana's voice was sharp. "Engines are still online, but we took a hit to our shields!"
Selara scanned the incoming vessel. "They're locking weapons. We have less than a minute before they open fire."
Joran cracked his knuckles. "Guess we're fighting our way out."
Nyx pulled up a tactical display. "That's a Syndicate Pursuer-class Destroyer—they won't just let us go. If we try to run, they'll track us through hyperspace."
Raizen's golden eyes flickered with determination. "Then we don't run. We take them down."
A Desperate Maneuver
The Syndicate ship unleashed a barrage of plasma fire, streaks of crimson energy cutting through space toward them. Raizen twisted the corvette into a sharp roll, narrowly avoiding the brunt of the assault.
Kain activated the countermeasures. Flashes of decoy flares exploded outward, confusing the enemy's targeting systems.
"Returning fire!" Selara shouted, her hands flying over the weapons console. The corvette's forward cannons blazed, striking the enemy's shields in precise, calculated bursts.
The Syndicate ship barely flinched. Its thick armor absorbed most of the damage, and its retaliation came swift. Another wave of torpedoes launched, zeroing in on them.
Raizen's instincts screamed. He had mere seconds to act.
"Brace!" he yelled, yanking the controls hard. The corvette pitched into a nosedive, diving toward a nearby asteroid field. The torpedoes followed, weaving through the space debris.
Joran grinned. "They're right on our tail."
Raizen smirked. "Exactly where I want them."
Turning the Tide
As the corvette darted through the asteroid field, the Syndicate destroyer followed—but its massive frame wasn't built for maneuvering through tight spaces.
Nyx's eyes widened. "You're not actually—"
Raizen slammed the thrusters. The ship spun through a narrow gap, slipping between two massive asteroids. The Syndicate ship wasn't as lucky.
With a thunderous crash, a massive chunk of rock slammed into its hull, ripping through its shielding.
Seraphina saw the opening first. "Now! Hit their engines!"
Selara didn't hesitate. She fired all remaining torpedoes. The projectiles slammed into the exposed engine bay, and an instant later—the destroyer erupted in a fiery explosion.
The shockwave rocked their corvette, but the enemy ship was done for.
Raizen exhaled, gripping the controls as the dust settled.
Kain whistled. "That was insane."
Nyx smirked. "That was genius."
Liana adjusted the nav-coordinates. "We need to move. That explosion might attract more Syndicate forces."
Raizen nodded. "Set course for the neutral station. We need to regroup."
As they jumped back into hyperspace, Raizen knew one thing—this war had just begun.
