Zeke's POV
A low, brutal growl snapped my attention back. It was Roman. I gazed down at him, watching as he convulsed violently. Seeing him like this — writhing and broken — was heart-wrenching, almost too much to bear.
"We can't just stand here and watch him like this. We need to do something before he turns!" Vaelith said urgently. At this point, the convulsions were escalating fast — I could see it clearly now. He was already losing control of himself, slipping further away.
Suddenly, Roman's eyes snapped open wide, so wide it looked like they might pop out of their sockets. I instinctively took a step back, my heart hammering in my chest. His eyes had turned pitch black, and his veins darkened, spreading like poison under his skin. At the same time, his voice — or whatever was left of it — became distorted, shifting between deep growls and twisted shrieks.
