Chapter 80 - A World in Turmoil

"Hmm, this thing is really beautiful."

Tohka stood idly outside the atmosphere, watching the explosions like fireworks.

She had to admit—within her line of sight alone, there were over a hundred nuclear detonations.

It was no wonder these were humanity's strongest weapons—their explosions were truly spectacular.

At least Tohka was thoroughly enjoying the sight.

But right then, her communicator suddenly buzzed.

"Where the hell are you? Why do I have to switch to a satellite phone just to reach you?"

At that moment, Nick Fury's dark face appeared in front of Tohka.

She had to say, his already dark face was now as black as the bottom of a pot.

"The fireworks are nice. I've never seen such a beautiful display before."

Unlike Nick Fury, who looked furious, Tohka felt nothing at all.

She was simply enjoying the spectacular view, completely ignoring the so-called radiation. After all, space itself was full of radiation, and she had positioned herself far from the closest explosion, so it posed no threat to her.

"So, you're just out in space, watching at least a hundred nuclear explosions? No wonder I had to use an astronaut's communication method just to contact you."

As expected of the head of S.H.I.E.L.D., he immediately figured out where she was with just one sentence.

But he wasn't in the mood to argue with her. Instead, he directly said, "I'll send you the address. Hurry over, Tony is there too."

"Uh… okay."

After hearing Nick Fury's words, Tohka didn't think too much and flew straight towards the target.

She didn't bother with the explosions in the sky, as Nick Fury's tone suggested something big was happening.

"What are you guys up to? Why all the firepower?"

When Tohka arrived at the location Nick Fury had designated, she realized that S.H.I.E.L.D. was quite serious this time.

Not only were Black Widow and Hawkeye present, even the four people from the Lizard incident had shown up.

However, they all had extremely serious expressions. Behind them was a group of fully armed soldiers.

Each one had a special device on their heads—though Tohka didn't know what it was for.

As for Nick Fury, he was speaking into a video call, and Tohka could clearly see that the people on the screen were leaders of various countries—figures she had often seen on the news.

Meanwhile, Tony was casually chatting with his buddy Rhodey like nothing was going on.

He even waved to Tohka when he saw her.

To be fair, those two weren't part of S.H.I.E.L.D., so they didn't have to act all formal like the others.

"What's going on here? Looks like S.H.I.E.L.D. is mobilizing everything they've got."

Tohka approached Tony, looking at the large-scale deployment with some confusion.

"Weren't you watching fireworks? Someone just manipulated world leaders and launched all of the world's nuclear arsenal."

"Luckily, the guy only targeted outer space, and the atmosphere absorbed most of the shock, so Earth didn't take any real damage."

"So now the world's basically been 'nuked into peace,' and I bet every country with the know-how is secretly rushing to rebuild their stockpile."

Hearing Tohka's question, Tony sneered as he explained.

"So yeah, these world leaders are losing their minds."

"And the only person who could mentally control nearly everyone on the planet is Professor Charles. There's practically no one else with that kind of psychic power."

"Those helmets are specifically designed to counter Professor Charles. Also, all these weapons are made with nanotechnology—extremely durable, and without a single trace of metal."

"So, we're going to launch a direct assault on Professor Charles' academy?"

"But that doesn't make sense. If Professor Charles were behind this, he's had plenty of opportunities before. Why would he act now? Didn't the government even develop anti-mutant weapons before?"

"But that doesn't make sense—if it was Charles, he had plenty of chances before."

"Why now? Especially since the government had already developed weapons targeting mutants?"

Anyway, Tohka didn't believe Charles would do something like this.

She also recalled that the true culprit might very well be Apocalypse—the earliest known mutant.

As for S.H.I.E.L.D.'s preparations, even Tohka was surprised.

She didn't expect them to be this prepared.

They even had weapons tailored to fight both Charles and Magneto.

"You people are playing with fire. You want to spark a global riot?"

"Besides, we don't even have solid evidence it was Charles."

"Don't tell me you're thinking of releasing that guy too?"

"You sure he'll listen to you?"

"I doubt he's any less dangerous than the mutants."

At that moment, Nick Fury angrily cut off the video call.

But from his expression, even if he didn't want to, he had no choice—after all, this pressure was coming from multiple countries.

"You're here. Looks like we might need your strength this time."

Nick Fury walked up to Tohka helplessly, knowing that today's situation wouldn't be resolved easily.

The main issue was that this incident had escalated too far. Firing off every nuclear missile on Earth—how insane was that? There was no way to suppress the situation now.

"What's your plan? Are we really just going to charge in like this?"

"You do realize that mutants have unpredictable powers. If they've properly prepared, we might not even be able to break through."

To be honest, he really didn't want to become enemies with the mutants.

Their abilities were strange and varied, and they hadn't really committed any major crimes before.

And among them was someone he deeply feared.

"You should know, from what I've heard, Magneto has already moved his family to Charles' academy."

"If that guy is there, both Rhodey and I are completely useless."

At least Tony had some self-awareness about this.

Because things had happened too quickly—and Magneto hadn't caused any trouble in recent years—Tony hadn't developed any special armor to counter him.

If he faced Magneto in his current suit, it would be a complete disaster.

He might even end up being used as a weapon against his own team.

And don't even mention Rhodey's War Machine—it would be even worse.

"Tohka, Magneto is your responsibility."

"Do you want one of the helmets? Charles' mind control is no joke."

Clearly, Nick Fury had already decided who would deal with Magneto.

After all, Magneto had caused plenty of trouble before, and Fury had long since planned how to counter him.

So, he ignored Tony's concerns and instead directly asked for Tohka's input.

"I mean, I can do it, but..."

"Are you really going to wage war against Professor Charles?"

"I've met him before, and I don't believe he would do something like this."
