Chapter 4 - Kinshi

Deactivating the invisibility function of his Nano-Watch and putting his knife away, Icarus stared at the young boy who had so rudely started to eat before he could even form a response to his request.

"Wait a second kid, I never said you could eat!" Icarus scolded. "More importantly, how the hell were you able to tell I was there?"

Reon, who was focused on chewing a rabbit leg, looked up at the older gentleman before him.

"How was I able to tell you were there?" Leon looked at Icarus confused.

"Yes, I -" Icarus cut himself off realizing he was about to give out too much information to this strange boy.

"Look, you shouldn't have been able to see me at all, and yet you did, I would like to know how." Icarus spoke demandingly.

"Well, I don't really know what exactly you mean," Reon was confused by this question, and couldn't really form a proper answer. "But even if someone can't see you they can still sense you in other ways you know, there is more than one sense besides sight, like taste!" Reon said excitedly before taking another bite of rabbit leg.

Icarus sat there looking at Reon for a minute.

"Mental Notes On…" Icarus thought. Suddenly all of Icarus's thoughts were being recorded.

Sgt. Brennand Hope…

Codename- Icarus…

Fact Finding Mission …

Reconnaissance mission…

Continent - Ornam…

Country - Akram. …

Record 01…

-After arriving in Akram today, I am currently residing within a large uninhabited forest within the country of Akram. While setting up camp I unexpectedly was discovered by a strange teenage boy, who appears to be from age 15 to 17. The boy desperately wanted some of the food that I was cooking.

-Before he approached however, I used my Nano-Watch's Invisibility function out of concern that a beast was approaching, yet when the boy arrived he was still aware of my presence.

-Apparently this child can detect a person's presence with his senses besides sight. That would mean he possesses enhanced senses since he couldn't be using a scanner.

-Can everyone in this country perform a feat like this? I can not confirm this from one person, but I can try to find out more information from this child.

"Mental Notes Off"

"So hey, kid, what is your name?" Icarus asked in a suddenly friendly tone.

"My name is Reon DeValt." Reon answered cordially.

"And what about you, Sir?" asked Reon.

"You can call me Icarus," Icarus said with a slight smile.

"Now that introductions are out of the way, let me ask you this, Reon. From what you know, can everyone in this country do as you did, and know someone is there even without seeing them?" Icarus quickly got to the main matter.

Reon took a second to think about it.

"Well I haven't been in this country for that long to be honest, but I would assume that everyone above the age of 5 years can do it, it isn't that special." Reon answered honestly with a simple look on his face.

"What the hell?" Icarus couldn't believe it.

The Nano-Watch was one of the latest innovations of Evos, the most technologically advanced civilization on the planet. It was created specifically to support its soldiers on reconnaissance missions, and yet, according to Reon, the average child in this country could render one of its most relevant functions meaningless, let alone the adults who actually had important secrets to hide.

What Icarus hadn't realized was that Reon was not an average child of Akram, he was a prince of Valt. The senses that Reon referred to when he could see Icarus were not the normal 5 senses, but the Kinshi Sense!

Kinshi was the mystical force in this world. Those that could sense and understand this force could harbor it, and use it to do spectacular things. Like Reon's Grandfather, Rend, who had become one of the most powerful beings in the world thanks to his great understanding and practice of Kinshi.

Rend was considered a genius though, and Reon was far from his grandfather's level, but he planned to catch up as much as possible during his journey away from home.

"I see…this is bullshit." Icarus mumbled.

"Huh?" Reon looked confused.

Icarus raged quietly in his mind.

"There is no way, absolutely no way a negligence of this order could have been produced by the top scientist of Evos". Icarus reassured himself. "This has to be a lie."

The reason Icarus had such a hard time accepting this was that, as a technologically advanced civilization, the people of Evos prided themselves on knowledge, accuracy, logic, efficiency, and scientific achievement.

The fact that 95% of the citizens of another country that was known to be relatively unadvanced could easily detect the presence of someone who was supposed to be unseen, meant that not only would the Nano-Watch be a huge blunder operationally, but in terms of the cost that went into the device. The ability to turn the soldiers invisible was not cheap by any means.

If this was true, he would have to report this. Dozens of elite reconnaissance soldiers like him would have to be updated on this, and some even called back to Evos.

This was for the sake of operations but this wasn't the worst part. If the scientific community found out about this blunder it would be a huge embarrassment for the scientist who developed the Nano-Watch. If he lost influence afterward, he might turn to the one who reported the fault of the watch for revenge, which would lead back to Icarus.

After thinking things over logically, he realized that the most important thing was the truth of the situation coming to light as soon as possible.

"Kid, umm, Reon, please tell me something, why do you think that anyone above the age of five can sense something that is invisible to the naked eye." Icarus asked carefully, intently waiting for Reon's response.

With his mind Icarus activated a sensor in the form of a contact that started to detect if Reon was lying.

After thinking about this strangely worded question Reon answered once again, " Well, although I never met him, I learned that my father was originally from this country, and he was a warrior powerful enough to get quite high praise from my uncle." Reon spoke proudly of the father he had never met.

"Anyways, so I figured if my father was as strong as my uncle Ken if not stronger according to him, then the people of this country would probably have learned about Kinshi in a similar fashion to us around the age of 5."

"Kinshi, Kinshi Sense, Strong?" None of this made any sense to Icarus. Not in the least.
