Chantelle looked puzzled. His forehead was hot, and she had never heard of hugging as a cure for fever.
Still, it felt wrong to push him away when he was sick.
She hesitated, unsure of what to do.
As Daniel hugged her tighter, her body stiffened instinctively.
On this silent night, Chantelle could hear her own heartbeat.
She wasn't sure if it was because Daniel was holding her, but her body started to feel hot.
She thought about lifting the blanket, but Daniel already had a fever. If he got sweaty and caught a chill, it might make things worse.
Forget it. I'll just put up with it tonight, she sighed to herself. She wasn't sleepy at all.
Then, a phone started buzzing on the bedside table. It was Daniel's. He didn't wake up, and since the phone was behind him, Chantelle couldn't reach it. She had no choice but to let it ring.
The caller eventually hung up, but then her own phone started ringing. Chantelle turned to grab it but Daniel grabbed it first.
