Darren's POV
I held Diamond in my arms, my back propped against the stairs. She was weak, barely keeping her eyes open. She tried to speak, but her words never came out.
"Shhh. Don't say a thing. I'm here now."
I picked her up, holding her close as I climbed the stairs. Kristin followed me, panic written on her face. Whatever this was, it couldn't be more dangerous than what Diamond had faced with the werewolves. Kristin pushed my door open, and I placed Diamond on the bed. Her hand grabbed mine, caressing softly. She turned her head to face me, forcing a smile on her face.
"Just rest. You'll be fine."
"I know. You're with me."
I kissed her forehead, petting her softly. I wanted her to fall asleep. Regain some strength while I sort out the matter downstairs.
"There's… a tattoo on my neck. It appeared last night. See…"
