Chapter 204 - Chapter 204: The News

"According to the latest intelligence from the main camp, it seems that Sunagakure has paused its offensive against Iwagakure due to logistics issues."

"Did Iwagakure make a move?" someone asked.

Nara Sisui shook his head.

Everyone looked confused. "If not Iwagakure, then who would be interested in disrupting Iwagakure's logistics?"

"No one made a move," Nara Sisui replied.

"What do you mean?" The group was puzzled.

Nara Sisui patiently explained, "It's exactly as it sounds—no one attacked Iwagakure's logistics system. They just couldn't sustain it themselves."

"Forget launching attacks on Iwagakure, even the fierce battles they've been fighting with us on the western front have slowed down in recent days. It seems like Sunagakure can no longer keep up with this war."

"What?" Everyone was shocked and found it hard to believe.

They couldn't imagine that one of the Five Great Shinobi Villages would lose a war due to logistical problems.

While logistics are important in war, ninja warfare is usually more about manpower than supply chains. Even if logistics fail, ninja forces can often sustain themselves by raiding enemy supplies.

Logistics only become a significant problem when a village lacks enough manpower. But Sunagakure still had plenty of reserve forces.

While Sunagakure has always been the smallest of the Five Great Shinobi Villages in terms of numbers, its average combat strength is high, and thanks to the puppet masters, Sunagakure's casualties have been the lowest over the past two years of war.

So, they still had a relatively large pool of backup forces.

If logistics were causing such a big problem, it could only mean one thing: Sunagakure's supply situation was beyond dire, to the point where it had escalated into a critical issue affecting their decisions.

The group quickly understood this.

Meanwhile, Aomei was thinking even further.

If Sunagakure's logistics had deteriorated this badly, then when they later sacrificed their hero, Yekura, to broker peace with Kirigakure, it wasn't just an internal power play by the Fourth Kazekage, Rasa. Sunagakure might have truly been desperate to end the war and was forced to agree to Kirigakure's terms.

This made sense in hindsight. For example, when the Ino-Shika-Cho trio represented Konoha in delivering a peace treaty to Iwagakure, a faction of hawkish Iwagakure ninja wanted to disrupt the process. But at that critical moment, Rasa intervened, claiming that the disputed area was Wind Country territory, preventing the Iwa-nin from acting.

Eventually, Iwagakure and Konoha successfully signed the peace treaty.

This showed that Sunagakure was the village most eager to end the war. Otherwise, Rasa wouldn't have intervened at all.

The more Aomei thought about it, the more sense it made.

For the first time since arriving in this world, Aomei realized just how close the war was to ending.

But the darkest hour is often just before dawn, and the calm before the storm is never truly peaceful.

This war wasn't going to end without some brutal, decisive battles.

So, it was too soon to talk about peace just yet.

Regaining his focus, Aomei looked toward Nara Sisui and asked, "Even if Sunagakure has slowed its offensive, isn't Kumogakure still out there? Shouldn't Iwagakure prioritize sending forces in that direction?"

Everyone snapped out of their thoughts, realizing that Kumogakure's aggressive push was far more dangerous than their own situation. Compared to that, they barely seemed worth Iwagakure's attention. If Iwagakure had extra troops, shouldn't they be focusing on Kumogakure?

They all turned to Nara Sisui, waiting for an explanation.

Seeing this, Nara Sisui sighed and said, "According to the latest reports, the competition over the position of the Fourth Raikage has reached a fever pitch within Kumogakure. Right now, their frontline forces have no heart for battle, and the war with Iwagakure has nearly come to a halt."

Hearing this, the group fell silent, finally understanding why Iwagakure had targeted them instead.

It likely wasn't just them; the whole of Konoha might be in Iwagakure's crosshairs now.

As expected, Nara Sisui continued, "Ten minutes ago, we received word from headquarters that our base wasn't the only one attacked. Several other outposts were hit as well. Some are still holding out, but others have already fallen."

One Jonin remarked, "Looks like Iwagakure wants us to give back everything we gained over the past month."

It was true. Over the past month, they had capitalized on Iwagakure's distracted forces to launch a series of offensives, seizing a large amount of territory.

Now that Iwagakure had freed up its forces, it was immediately retaliating, and the message couldn't have been clearer.

"If you ask me, the territory isn't that important. While we didn't achieve all our objectives, the counteroffensive organized by the main camp was still quite successful. We could just retreat to our old positions and wait for Iwagakure's next move," someone suggested.

"Yeah," another agreed. "Retreating would also mean our supply lines would be shorter. After hearing about Sunagakure's logistics issues, I'm starting to worry about ours. If Iwagakure were to bypass our defenses and cut off our supplies, we'd be in serious trouble. Don't forget, this is their territory. They know the terrain better than we do, and it wouldn't be hard for them to slip past our surveillance."

Another Jonin quickly voiced his agreement. "Exactly, I think we should retreat."

But not everyone agreed, and the room soon erupted into a heated debate.

Finally, Nara Sisui spoke up. "That's enough. These strategic decisions are for Lord Third and Lord Orochimaru to worry about. Let's just focus on doing our jobs."

With that, the debate ended. The group chatted for a few more minutes until Nara Sisui officially adjourned the meeting.

As everyone began to leave, Aomei wasted no time. With a quick Shunshin, he disappeared.

The other Jonin exchanged glances, confused as to why he was in such a hurry.

Where was he going?

Of course, he was going to train.

Aomei hadn't finished his daily training routine yet, and he wasn't about to waste any more time.
